Best Music Moments of 2008
So, let's doing a best moments of 2008 (in music) for not-H!P stuff! We don't have to have a big poll or award ceremony.
(Note: to assign a specific time in YT links, add #t=XmYYs to the end of your link where X is the minute and YY is the two-digit seconds)
Here are mine (in no particular order):
1. The end chorus of the Secret Secret (Perfume) PV. (PV on YouTube) Yashiyuka's little model-walk combined with the start of ANOTHER chorus really made this an uplifting moment.
2. The reveal of WHAT A FEELING (Namie Amuro). (PV on YouTube) Vidal Sassoon started a major campaign very early in the year to promote 60s70s80s and the timing of releasing videos and commercials kept me on the edge of my seat. WHAT A FEELING was a great last song to unveil. It had all the parts to a good dance tune: a good dance, a catchy beat, repetitive choruses, and beautiful hair!
3. MASURAO (DJ OZMA) and PV. (MF Live on YouTube) This song has it all: just enough one-shots, a catchy parapara-like dance, and asian guys in thongs going "FU-FU-FU-." If you dare, look up the actual PV as well. One word: impiledmanlovin.
4. End of each choruse of DAYS (Ayumi Hamasaki). (MS Live on YouTube) Despite being just an above-average ballad, DAYS provided to entertain in a way only Ayumi Hamasaki can provide. I call it "crow singing." Listen at the end of the chorus for "itte ii desu ka."
5. TABOO (Koda Kumi) and PV. (PV on YouTube) Ugh, that bassline gets me every time! I love the dance too. I've attempted it many time to no avail of accuracy...

All I gotta say is Idol of the Year- Ranka Lee!
Yoko Kanno and the Macross folks came up with such awesome music for Macross Frontier and were able to hit all the bases with both cute idol pop (Ranka) and the whole ero-kakoii thing with Sheryl. The special medley duet with the two of them that combines about a dozen songs from the series' 25+ years is breathtaking.

*ears perk up* This sounds right up my alley; I love Macross in all of its forms but I wasn't too impressed with Macross Zero.
HOLD UP! I'M A GEEK THE BIG PARADOX!

I'm just about as big as a Macross fan as you can get but I LOATHED Zero. Didn't even bother watching past the 3rd episode. Thankfully Macross Frontier made up for it 10 times over.

I have yet to get into Frontier, mainly due to lack of time. Now I am determined, haha.

The Macross Frontier Vocal Collection : Nyan Tama Was the best album ever. It had all the vocal songs and it included the Nyan Nyan Service Medley (Toku Mori) which was so much better then the Nyan Nyan Service Medley from the 2nd OST.
This was really Yoko Kanno's year. I haven't stopped playing Nyan Tama since it came out, it's that awesome. Megumi Nakajima (Ranka Lee) was pretty awesome with the amount of work she did for being a Newbie. She spawned a meme with her little nyan nyan dance and covered one of my all time FAVORITE songs so it was a good year for her I think. Even though I thought Ranka was annoying in the series, I hope to see more of Megumi in 2009.
Ayumi Hamasaki's, Mirrorcle World was pretty great for an Ayu song. I don't normally like Ayu's work, but after her A Complete: All Singles came out, I couldn't help but listen to the album and get a little nostalgic with some of the songs from her past. And her voice has grown on me, after years of H!P torture, Ayu doesn't sound that bad to me. My younger self is probably wanting to come up into the future and beat me senseless for saying so, but eh. Serves her right for sticking with H!P all these years.

I watched every single Macross ep from every single series when I was bored one month in Iraq. All I'm missing is Frontier, which I was watching up to Ep 6 until I got sent to some shitty hole in the wall without the Net. I ordered the whole series on DVD, which should be coming shortly, and I have the OSTs, which rock the house. Yoko Kanno should be involved with every single Macross series, period. She's to Macross what Uematsu is to the Final Fantasy game series.
As for music that I enjoyed last year, JPOP at least:
Arashi - "Beautiful Days" and "One Love"
Buono! - Album and all singles
BK - FIVE
Acid Black Cherry - The Black List
Amuro Namie - 60s 70s 80s single
High King - Cinderella Complex

Eventhough I liked Pepper Keibu and some Perfume songs in general, nothing else really kept me listing to it for a long long time, except for...
MGMT's debut album Oracular Spectacular.
Yeah, it's not japanese, yeah it's not pop, but it got a similar vibe to it, just mixed with some 80s music.

Ah! I totally forgot about Namie Amuro, she came out with her Best album in 2008. I forget these things so easily. HA! <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... iggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':sideways:' /> Best Fiction was a great Namie album for me. I think the only song I like that was missing was Wowa.

Best Japanese release of 2008 was idea of a joke's 'we are all making history' album.
