Doctor Who is coming back next week. Yay~ Image
Let's hope is better than the turgid pile of shit known as Torchwood which is haemorrhaging viewers at an impressive rate, I managed 3 episodes before I lost the will to live.
It is pretty bad isn't it? I think I only watched it for Bill Pullman, and he wasn't in the last two episodes. Image So bummed! Speaking of which, Jack's bare ass made its grand debut in the last episode. I think this is the most sexual explicit show to be ever made from a children's show.

And anything Steve Moffat does is better then Russel T. Davis. Yes I went there. Image

Basically. I have never liked Torchwood. Forced sexposition, unlikeable characters, often horrendous scripting except it takes itself more seriously than Who, etc.

My family loves it. It is a mystery.

Doctor Who, here's a quick catch-up if you've missed the previous 777 episodes.

Holy shit, I didn't think we'd actually get to see River's first encounter with the Doctor so soon, let alone with Alex Kingston in the role! She did "young River" so convincingly and flawlessly, and it was just so camp and crazy. And then of course, the melodrama at the end. Okay, so it was a bit of a ripoff of Nine/Rose in the Series 1 finale, but going from murderess to sacrificing her regenerations to save the Doctor was pretty tragic.

I thought that episode was trying too hard to be surprising without really doing anything new.

Tedious <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... /frown.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':frown:' />.

The whole Hitler thing was a waste of time, I think somebody found a couple of swastikas and a Hitler moustache in a props box and thought "OK, let's get a pointless appearance by Hitler in an episode of Doctor Who". It would have been no more relevant to have used any other mass murderer, Idi Amin, Genghis Khan, Pol Pot, Tony Blair (bit of political satire there).

Anyway Doctor Who has always said you can't change history so Hitler couldn't die until 1945.

And what was that robot shit? "We have the technology to time travel, transport and miniaturise people, design a robot that can duplicate anybody in a few seconds, speak in any language but we can only operate it by having lots of little people working it from the inside and it needs somebody to look out of an eyeball to see what colour somebody's skin is. By the way we can transport people but we can't transport them into a cell so we have some stupid flying thingies that can't tell friend from foe unless you wear some clunky great bracelet that has a habit of not working properly and can be easily overriden putting the entire crew in mortal danger."

Oh, and if River's regenerations can save the Doctor why didn't he regenerate himself, he had time.

Another Oh, so River was best friends with Amy and Rory for 20 odd years and heard about all Amy's stories of the Doctor and never once gave away or gave Amy and Rory any suspicions that she was actually their daughter and since Amy was a good person that might mean the Doctor was a good person.

Just to make a point for Turtle. The Doctor and River mentioned that he couldn't regenerate with the poison she used. Whatever kind of she used, thus nulling him of his regenerations.

Oh and try not to over-analyze a children's show, it'll make your head spin too much. And you're already spinning to much as it is.

Also new episode this week. A little on the weak side, I was expecting a little more from the dolls and the acting was meh. From what I heard it was supposed to be for the first half of the season and I guess you can tell by the way the doctor is dressed.

But next week looks interesting what with all the white and makeup and fencing?

Though the episode I've been waiting for is The God Complex. With the hotel rooms, the Minotaur and the clown with the red balloon that's been teased since the start of the season.

As for Torchwood, I've TRIED so hard to keep watching this season, but I dunno, it just started to drag and now that Doctor Who is back, it's like, why even bother?

Yes but then why did River's regenerations work?

In the UK these days it's much more promoted as an adult show that also entertains kids hence it's on at 19:00 to 19:45 on a Saturday, not too late for kids and early enough to catch people before they go out on a Saturday night, as I understand those people with something called a "social life" (whatever the hell THAT is) do.

I quite liked it, it was reasonably spooky although I agree the dolls could have been more effective if they had been more mobile.

Her regeneration was immune to the poison as well as River herself. I mean how else could she not have died also since the poison was on her lips?

You mean you weren't moved by old fart Amy, lack of Doctor, weird rubbed handed robots and sword action. (Where did the sword come from?)

On the other hand, sat through the last two episodes of Torchwood. Image That's all I have to say about that. Don't ever say I can't complete something, even if I lose interest. And the fact that they left it open for MORE, makes me weep. Image

OK then <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... /frown.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':frown:' />

"Push the button" - In any real world you would say "Which one?" given a choice of two, if not, again given a choice of buttons and one is red, no matter what colour from the visible spectrum the other is, you don't push the red. RED MEANS DANGER

Now this plague only attackse people with two hearts, robot scans Amy and can tell she has dodgy bacteria but can't tell she has only one heart and is therefore immune. This is the second most popular planer for tourists so there must have been millions of tourists visiting when the plague broke out yet the robots have not been given the most basic way of checking if people are liable to infection.

We have a technology that can mess with time, teleport robots, have super computer interfaces but they can't make a robot that can move other than buy a constipated shuffle and, apparently when hit over the head with a piece of stretched canvas, stop working.

Oh yes, the sword, marvellous how it can cut through the metallic neck of a robot and who taught Amy ninja fighting techniques. Oh and who taught how to construst a sonic probe, even if the computer had told her how the hell did she physically construct it, must be a dab hand with a soldering iron.

Nice to see they had a hairdresser who does fugitives hair for free, 36 years and lovely clean hair, still the same length as it originally was.

Loved the magnifying glass thingy, hell of a power pack, it can see different time streams apparenly powered by a small battery, not much room for anything else in the handle (probably nuclear or dilithium crystals or something). Wasn't it also wonderful that a piece of alien technology the Doctor had never seen plugged stright into the Tardis which could then read it. The Gallifreyan USB must be a wonderful thing.

I want a Gallifreyan USB, it would solve so many of my problems. :<

But whatever these aliens are must be in some way related to the time lords since only they and time lords can die from this strange one day illness.

And YOU know she pressed the red button because it had a waterfall on it and Amy is to Waterfalls as she is to Rivers and Ponds. She's all about the waterfalls.

I'm surprised you didn't add hair dye to the hairdresser or she's apparently going to be a ginger till she's dead. Lucky girl...lady...woman?

God Complex was pretty good. Though I do wonder what the Doctor saw in his room. I have an idea, but that's about it. And the ending was a little tacked on if you ask me.

Though next week looks even more fun, I loved the Lodger and the return of "Craig" makes me happy.

The Doctor probably saw something that relates to his self-loathing, i.e. himself doing something bad or someone he hurt. They really couldn't have thrown his guilt at us any harder this season.

I have honestly come to despise New Who finales.

They're always such a huge ball of nonsense, and they feel chaotic without being fun. I had hoped Moffat would change that, but that hasn't been the case.

As much as I hated RTD's finales, at least they ended story arcs. Moffat's still dragging around questions from the first season. I am far more annoyed than intrigued by this.

Doctor Who Confidential is getting canceled, there's a petition going around to try and save it. (I doubt it'll do much good, but it can't do anything harmless but help and show the BBC they are losing something worth keeping around.)

I for one love Confidential because I love the behind the scenes info. I kinda wish more shows did stuff like that. (Maybe that's why I like H!P Time so much?)

Spoilers for Episode 5. No, seriously, spoilers.

Ep 5 is set in New York city. Amy and Rory have an encounter with a weeping angel and don't make it out. That is their last episode and how they're written off. And that's also the midseries cliffhanger with the rest of the season picking up after a few months hiatus.

As much as that kinda sucks when there are companion changes, I was never a big Amy/Rory fan at all. There was constant needless drama with them, plus Amy was abrasive and Rory kept getting killed until it was just groan-worthy.

I guess I'm still stuck on Donna as the best companion. I am thinking how much more enjoyable some of the better Matt Smith episodes would have been with Rose or Donna as companion. Mind you, this is not aimed at the actors. I like them a lot. My issue is mostly with how their characters were written. I think they did the best they could with what they were given.

Also THAT COMIC. I AM GOING TO CAMP OUT IN FRONT OF THE COMIC SHOP IN A TENT OH MAN OH MAN OH MANNN.

Ugh I couldn't stand Rose. She was okay in season 1 but then they tried to do a romance and it just doesn't work. Doctor Who was never about the romance, it was about the adventure.

Donna was the best. She was the only reason I found the Tenth Doctor tolerable. Cuz she was there to smack him around when he got too emo (read: ALL THE TIME)

Never really cared for Amy -- I preferred Amelia -- but I love Rory and of course I adore River.

As far as new companions go, Donna was the best followed by River. I like Amy well enough, but I feel bad that the only reason she was really there was to bring River into the picture. I hear they are going to be going back to the stand alone stories after Amy and Rory leave, I hope this is true. Mad-cap adventures with a little tiny plot thread is better then one giant thread with a little tiny stand alone mad-cappies.
