Me too, I love enka and this is sorta like it and that means awesome in my book, but I have no idea where to start. I know Super Junior has a Trot group but they only released one song and Big Bang has a trot soloist in their ranks but can't find any of his stuff either. D:

And it's just so funny that it's called trot.

Daesung is the guy from Big Bang.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2HhHkU_NlLs is one of the trot songs he sang and it's awesome haha.

I also don't really know where to start with trot music other than like Tae Jin Ah and Song Dae Gwan.

Thanks fpd! Wiki also mentions Jang Yun-jeong as someone who sings Trot. Of course tonight I'll have to go hunt some of this stuff down like Surasshu says!

Edit: I couldn't wait, here's a MV for Jang Yun-jeong's Twist. (-> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UMe1M5-1wb0 ) So trot trot!

Since we have a few Sunny fans now, and because probably most people won't seek out SuJu stuff by themselves, I wanna link this: Super Junior H - Cooking Cooking. Sunny is adorable, animated Sunny is adorable, Eeteuk is adorable too, and this song makes me laugh a lot. (Posted this in the SNSD thread before, thinking it was this one)

I just discovered IU, she's pretty awesome. Especially live when she'scover other peoples work. Unfortunately she hasn't released anything this year as a soloist (just duets as digital singles). :<

Here are some of her MVs

Jansori with. Seulong (2AM) (2010)

Marshmallow (2009)

Mia (2008)

And you know it's so funny going to the beginning of this thread and now and reading the comments. 8o

You're a bit late, didn't I link you to her like a year ago? And you didn't mention that she's only 17, and was 14 or 15 when she debuted! Really an amazing talent. She's been really busy hosting a lot of shows, Gom Music Chart every week and also a radio show and some other stuff, so I guess that's why she hasn't released anything in a while. But she's definitely one of my favorites, she's adorable.

One thing that always kinda annoyed me in regards to IU is that her fans really insist that the label give her "serious" songs, to like showcase her talent and whatever... But the girl's still just a kid, let her have some fun.

Yeah I donno about her. I've seen a few videos and such and she sounds great, but at the MSL finals last spring (Starcraft) she sounded GOD AWFUL live. Could have been the sound system wasn't crazy good, but being as everyone else was totally clear when they were speaking and such I'm thinking/hoping it was just a bad night for her. Even fans of her were mentioning how bad she was in the stream chats.

Apparently 2NE1 will have their "comeback" next month. September 9th they will be releasing their second album, To Anyone, and the rumor mill says they'll be promoting THREE tracks at once.

It's sometimes kinda hard to find good Korean shows if they don't have a major act like SNSD or SuJu or 2NE1 or something like that on them, but one show I really can recommend is Music Travel Lalala. It's a show where artists sing covers and their own songs, with a live studio band (or sometimes their own band, or a mix of DJ/laptop artist and live band, etc.). It's very good even if you don't know the group or singer in question, and it can make you discover new acts that way too. (There's also interviews but I don't understand Korean so they're lost on me, but they seem quite serious, about the people as artists and stuff.). The most recent episode, which I haven't seen yet, lists f(x), IU, some SuJu members... I've also linked some SNSD on that show before, when they were there with SuJu. (Although actually it was only half of SNSD and half of SuJu, basically the best singers).

You can find it on Jpopsuki, but I also recently found this great site for Kpop downloads called Kpopella (Deeplink for music travel links), with Megaupload links and a lot of other recent stuff. No subs though, but that's normal, at least for folks like us who grew up watching IRC-downloaded Hello Morning episodes that were barely even digital, let alone subtitled. Psh! Image

Copy pasted from the invincible youth thread in the video section since some people may not be able to see it.

Oh my god Goo Hara is becoming my favorite she's so funny! And cute too. I gotta look at Kara I guess! Even though their music annoys me, it might be fun to find them on variety shows.
I love all the members of Kara except Gyuri... god her persona is such a bitch haha. Supposedly she's nothing like that in real life (says her mother... reliable source for that kind of info haha) but on shows she such a "I'm a goddes and no one can touch me" arrogant piece of shit it's annoying as hell.

Watch http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C_1PnECLsdk...feature=related for both snsd and kara together goodness. Seung yeon is soooooooo fucking adorable I can't stand it. Listening to her story on Strong Heart (ep 4 I believe or 5) about Kara's debut and subsequent failure/departure of a member without their knowledge and treatment on variety shows was so sad, but it really backs up the idea that even the smallest actions and words can have a huge impact on people. (I'll have to upload that, cause I don't think strong heart stays on youtube for more than about four seconds usually haha)

well nm, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q7ecLlcBung starts just before 3 minutes in. It's sad, seriously.

In fact, that channel has seven of the episodes and I suggest you watch all of them cause it's an awesome show. http://www.youtube.com/user/strongheartsubs

There are lots of guests on each, but even the people's stories you don't know will probably make you get to know them better. (especially Brian from fly to the sky, any of the super junior guys, BOOM (IF YOU DON'T KNOW HIM, GET TO KNOW HIM), and anything Kang Ho Dong has a large involvement in haha.

Watch Strong Heart!

Toward the middle of the 4th episode of strong heart there is a pretty funny story from Gyuri though about Kang Ho Dong kissing her that they make pretty hilarious by making him out to be a creeper haha.

Oh god and how did I forget, watch the first part of the episode five for the Boom Academy In the Club segment. It's pretty amazing when Kang Ho Dong comes out with Seunggi haha. Seungyeon also does it and is funny too.

Yeah, every episode is well worth watching for sure.

I'm currently loving the am addicts thing that was linked cause yay for having megaupload premium and being able to download all the files at once. Avg of 13mb/s total downloading 3 shows at a time in the megamanager crap from megaupload haha.

I've been using proxies to grab a couple files at once, as well, but it's not quite as good (the one that's working the best for me downloads the files as browse.php, so I have to rename after it's done downloading). But yeah AM Addicts seems to have a LOT of stuff, and a lot of unsubbed (which is usually hard to find) and unusual stuff too.

I realized how freakin' spoiled I was watching Soshified subbed stuff because all of it is usually 720p great looking stuff, and I downloaded some of the KBS World rips and was like ew terrible quality , but as I watched it I realized it's still miles better than anything I used to download from Hello! Project.

Oh and check the invinc youth thread in the videos section for the rest of the episodes. I finally figured out wtf was up with megaupload and it had nothing to do with my end, so I'm currently uploading some other stuff (Family outing with Tiffany as the guest with hilarious interactions with Daesung(qtpie (no homo)))(nested parentheses ftw)

Also, I like how I've made more posts in the last few days than I've made in a few years here since we started talking about snsd haha.

Poor POOR Bora, first she fractures her thumb and THEN she brings the world's attention (I think there be a Kpop fan on that show.) to not just Kpop but Sistar. Of course the hosts have no clue what they are talking about, you can tell. Go to 3:05 so you can avoid the guy talking about his itchy balls.

Faceplant Action! If you don't know who Bora is, you will by the end of the video. ;D

HEY, at least you can tell they were singing live?

Again, poor Bora, I feel embarrassed for her.

God, G4 is pretty much the number one thing that has gone wrong with video game/internet culture since 4chan. Makes me not even want to be considered a nerd anymore because retards think that watching g4 and acting like the people on that fucking channel that makes you a nerd. Used to mean you were at least smart, now it just means you're retarded as fuck and a dbag at that.

anyway

Has a special idol gathering with members from T-ara, Yoon (snsd), Brown Eyed Girls, and Kara that continues in the second part that's really funny. Plus the Daesung+Tiffany "hate couple" as they call it is hilarious.

It was so sad to see Seung Yeon get so emotional telling her story. Korean are so strict about proper respect towards seniors and elders, it's not surprising that it can be difficult for younger newbies to balance showing respect with trying to show more of their personality to get noticed.

I'm not as familiar with Kara as with SNSD, but I first noticed Nicole's adorableness from her "Level With Me" segment on Star Golden Bell. Most of the videos have been removed from youtube, but there are still some cuts here and there:

Nicole with Shinhwa and SNSD: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yoRqOMO7mt4 and continued http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8rFxWxxWDXU

Kara plays Level With Me with Nicole (from the Idol Special episode): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5iNNX9KBdug

Another video from the Idol Special episode, with the subs as an adaption more than a straight translation: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WdwBTlz88pM

Really short clip "Noo~~": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wb_Rp_GQpcY

No subs: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zwa0_KwNlBI

I wish KBS hadn't gone crazy removing everything. Everyone's reactions to Nicole's clues was pretty hilarious.

Yeah, Nicole's lack of Korean skills makes for some pretty great tv. Plus the fact that she's just a little weird helps too haha.

Unnie literally means "big sister," but is the word a girl uses to refer to a girl older than her.

As an aside...

Girl calls older girl: unnie

Girl calls older guy: oppa

Guy calls older girl: nuna

Guy calls older guy: hyung

Younger sibling: dongseng

You'll see/hear those terms a lot when watching Korean shows, as it's one of those cultural things that doesn't translate very well.
