The official AKB48 blog denied the claims and said they were gonna sue the magazine, but I think they'll probably just pay the magazine a lot of money to print an apology or something.

I have nothing against AKB48 and I didn't post the article from the gossip mag because I believe it's the absolute truth (anyone can decide for themselves to believe it or not). Gossip mags will write anything to try to sell magazines and with the group becoming more popular I'm sure there'll be more random gossip. I thought it was interesting because Shinoda is one of the most popular members and because it was so close to a single release. H!P gossip mag articles get posted here as well (like the Akanishi/Chinami scandal nobody believes). The reason I think they will settle the deal with money is because they would not want the rumours to spread any further. I do believe the Japanese (and other countries as well) entertainment industry is a pretty shady place with all the yakuza involvement, drugs and exploitation of the people aiming be stars.
As for sales tactics, any sales tactics that encourages people to buy multiple copies of the same cd seem like a rip-off to me. You hear stories of wota dumping cd's at the train station after events and it just seems like a waste to me. Multiple versions are okay if there's different content on the cd or accompanying dvd. Even so, I think a regular edition for the general public and limited edition for the fans should be enough. I actually think MM's releases are more of a rip-off compared to AKB's, because the MM event tickets are assigned by lottery and AKB's release tend to have more content.

It'll be released on April 7th.

The first Set List was basically a best-of/single collection from 06-07 (since AKB's real albums are the studio recordings of the stages). Given the difficulties they're having with DefStar and the fact that this will probably be another single collection (since it's getting a mainstream release, unlike their newer stage recordings), the songs will probably be singles from "Baby! Baby! Baby!" through "RIVER" or "Sakura no Shiori".
Even though I've got all their singles, I'm still considering buying it for a few reasons, though:
1) DVD with all the making-of footage that's been not included with their DVDs recently (their making-ofs are generally really amazing), plus some other footage
2) 2 new songs
3) Relatively low price for all the content you're getting

Okay, I downloaded "Kamikyoutachi" from the audio/video part of the forum, and I must say, it's not that bad of an album...but I still don't see what all the hype is about the group. They seem no different from any other J-pop group.
They're better than SKE though. I have Seifuku no Me or whatever it is and it's like...all the same sounding songs.
EDIT - Also, who are these SDN brats? I can't find anything on them but apparently they're another -48.

SDN is the even pervier 48 group. All the girls are 18+. It was basically made as an excuse to get the fogies out of AKB48 without graduating them out of the 48 name completely.
AKB's songs/PVs aren't bad at all, but what I really don't like about them are the members and how bad their performances are. Lipsynching choir songs, dudes.

And the elections are something they've been putting in the singles where fans vote on which members will end up on the next single. It's basically a way for them to know who's the most popular in AKB48 so they never go out of style with boring members.

And, haha, you can totally read the whole thing, AND she was smart enough to block out your name with her finger! Her blog is so easy to read, with only a minimal amount of jumping icons. How refreshing. Were you able to read the blog post, berry? I don't know how good your Japanese is, but she liked that you used simple English for her to understand, and she made like three sentences and sad faces that you couldn't watch. I feel totally bad I'm not going to AX. I thought I was gonna see AKB while I was in Japan... and I didn't get to see MM still... VLC has a nice screenshot feature, so you don't have to juggle with different software !
When the video is running, just click on Video (top bar) and then Snapshot (or "Screenshot", depending on your version).

Well, it seems likely Rinatin is going JAV. I'm just gonna go kill myself over there ... lol.
Earlier this year, Rinatin couldn't make a concert because she was in the hospital. WTF seriously....

She seemed the least likely one to do this kind of stuff... Her dream was to be a singer and her idol is Ayaya, lol. A lot of people expected her to have a solo singing career. Instead of this. GEEZ IT'S LIKE if SJ suddenly went to do AV. SIGHHHHH.
She has health problems, that's why Milly is speculating that perhaps the medical costs were too much.
I am having a really hard time accepting this. I left her a comment on her blog. I really hope this wasn't forced on her part at all. I really hope she's ok emotionally...

Seems like a shitty way to make a living. A lot of people making porn or who tried making porn have difficulties dealing with it psychologically. It really depends.
Even if she wanted to make money using her body it reflects badly on the group and idols in general, I think. Though things like this have happened before and with a group as big as AKB48 it was bound to happen one time or another.
