I really don't get it. Why a choir song? They're an idol group. Moreso, why are they lipsyncing it? I don't think I've ever heard of a group lipsyncing a song like this. It's actually kind of pathetic. Do they really need to rely on stupid gimmicks for every single they put out? This would've been a nice B-side or stage song, but It's really obvious that they're doing this to take advantage of the graduation season ($$$$$$$) instead of trying to put out a good single. They'd sell fine without a gimmick. So stupid.



I actually really liked RIVER a lot, too. This is very disappointing.

Them doing graduation songs is getting old. But I love it when they do choir songs! In my opinion, that's one thing that differentiates them from H!P. I'm actually happy they did one. The last one was from awhile ago... Saigo no seifuku, one of my favorite AKB songs.



The lipsynching is getting old to me as well.. and making me tired of them. But I guess they are singing in a studio and the recording sounds like it has a lot of reverb which can't be produced there.... I don't think??? They didn't lipsync on a few new years show so it's getting a little better. I wouldn't doubt their abilities! At least some of them. They did play instruments in B4 which I thought was real. But the song does seem very high school choir-ish and they should really be able to do it live. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... eeping.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':whistling:' />



That said, this song is boring and I really hope it grows on me. I think Saigo no seifuku is sooooooooooo much better even though it's a c/w.

Yeah, beyond my general haterade drinking, this honestly just bewilders me. I can't see the point of lipsyncing a choir song under any circumstances. It completely kills the purpose of it. If there's one song that they absolutely need to sing live, I would think that it would be the one where they just stand and sing.



I do think it's different from Saigo no Seifuku, though. That song's more of an idol-y ballad. Sakura no Shiori is a straight up choir song that you'd hear in a church or something. For some reason I think lipsyncing Sakura no Shiori is more offensive. It feels like I'm being lied to or something.



H!P does do chorus performances too, though. I don't think they've actually released anything like Sakura no Shiori, but C-ute did sing a chorus-ified version of Silent Night. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N2NQTqg0GR0



I listened to the b-sides a while ago too, and neither of them really left an impact. They're a lot better than Sakura no Shiori, though.

The Yomiuri Shimbun paper's website reports that Yasushi Akimoto, the producer and songwriter of the Japanese female idol group AKB48, is entertaining offers for spinoff groups from seven television stations and production companies in six countries. The six countries include Thailand, Singapore, China, and Italy.



According to the website, Akimoto believes that "the era of imitating the West is over. Now we export Japanese culture." The seven companies want to license the rights to localize AKB48's concept and format in their respective countries. In particular, the proposed spinoffs would each have a theater of its own (similar to the one AKB48 has in Tokyo's Akihabara otaku shopping district), 48 members and a name that ends with "48," costumes modeled after high school uniforms, and songs written by Akimoto.

They should name the worldwide groups after the IATA codes of the nearest airports, for consistency and ease of identification. This could lead to some interesting results, but in this day and age of the Internet, surely even the Fresno group would find enough pervfollowers to be marketable.



I was pretty confused with the new song, and at first assumed it was just some Christmas-y carol-y thing. When I was told this was the new single my confusion went off the scale. It's definitely different from their previous choir-like songs (Sakura no hanabiratachi, etc., which still remain my favourites), and I agree that lip-synching an almost a cappella church-choir type of a song is totally killing the purpose.

I also remember Berryz Koubou's BE but the chorus is not so complex as the girls are singing in unison and leaving the rest to the other voices. Back to Sakura no Shiori... I'm not sure if I like it as a single and I'm totally curious if it will sell. Probably, but it is not as powerful as RIVER.

Online you could pre-order the single which then came with a ticket you could use to take a cell phone photo together with one of 87 of the girls in a 3 days event. With a limit of 150 cd's per customer. There are yahoo auctions with people selling batches of 60 cd's. With sales tactics like that it's hardly about the music anymore.



Also the cd's you can buy in the stores come with a handshake ticket.



Even so, 229,528 for first day is pretty damn impressive. I guess the scandal about the CEO sleeping with AKB girls hasn't affected the group much. Probably the story didn't spread much farther than one gossip mag.
