So the other day Hello! Online posted translations of the Haroten Certification exam. H!P held a couple of events where they gave a 100-question exam to fans. They had an hour to complete it. Over 2000 fans took the quiz, and about 50 got perfect scores. So how well can you do?
The questions are multiple choice and listed on the page there. Keep track of your answers in Notepad or something, and then grade yourself and post your score here (and there, and thank them for posting it and the translation!). The answer key's at the bottom.
I haven't taken it yet, but hopefully I'll have time to take it tomorrow. I didn't want to take it now because, you know, I didn't want to intimidate you guys.
A kind of interesting (and sad) side note, at concerts for the couple months before this test, they were selling "Drill books" or basically, study guides for this test at 900 yen per book. That explains why there were some perfect scores, but still, to devote a bunch of time studying it as if it were a school exam or something? Jeez.
They'll think of any way they possibly can to get the wota to spend money, won't they?

Plan to go through and take it sometime but I'll let you know I bought that drill book X_x. Thought I'd sign up to take it but then after studying for the JLPT was beat with studying and so didn't send in the application. One flip through the drill book told me how friggin hard it was going to be.
I got to question 10 before I said fuck it. I'm not a wota. I will never be a wota. I WISH I had enough free time to be a wota.
But this test accomplished two things. It gave UFA more cash upon which they will use to wipe their ass and not give the girls a budget. It also lets the wota pretend to have street cred. Oh, how the people who got perfect scores must feel! "I know everything there is to know and how the others must be jealous!" No longer is being a noob a problem, they must take the test as a right of passage into the wota world.
55/100. It's probably more accurate to say something like 45-50/100 since I guessed on probably half of the questions. It was so weird how some of the questions were really easy for anyone who follows H!P semi-casually and others were so rediculously detailed you'd never know them without one of those study books. Like not people who just pick up the releases occationally, but someone who checks each MM release out and watches some of their TV appearances would know "What generation is Konno Asami in" and "What's Kaori's nickname on Utaban." And then the next question would be like "Who's 5th from the left on this Ongaku Gatas single." Whaaat.
Were there prizes for this? Or were crazy wota just studying for the...wota notoriety?

I just finished and got a 57. It sucks not having a program made to take the test, cause its a pain to write down answers and such, but I got about what I figured I would, and I don't think I really got any of my blind guesses right. A vast majority of the stuff I got right was the stuff I actually knew off the top of my head.

Some people are better guessers than others and some may have looked up some of the more "god I know this answer if I just saw one thing" questions, but I refrained and treated it as an actual test situation as if I was sitting at a desk taking it.

I got to question one and didn't know the answer. Before looking at the options I was like "Oh it's the 9th... fuck!".
49/100 ^^ I'm pretty happy with that considering I haven't been following them with as much intensity the past few years. Fun but some of the questions are ridiculous! I am wondering who on earth could ever get 100 percent on some of those really difficult questions.

And yet I got quite a few of the fanclub correct from randomly having heard about things from friends, but I couldn't remember who made up Aa or ZYX for certainty and think those were a couple of the ones I got wrong. I don't know for sure as I just jotted stuff into Microsoft word and then erased the ones I got wrong as I went along so I could count how many I got right better.
I could've swore Love Machine was the 6th single as I was just watching that first half of Asayan and know it was the one released on 9/9/99 but didn't count correctly for how many that would make it from all the eps I'd watched. Heh and most of what Tsunku wanted to happen came true, but the 9 members of morning musume for 9/9/99 didn't. Hindsight is fun.
And for those of you that think studying for something like this is ridiculous and you would have to be some super wota living in a basement, think about the fact that all of the people who took the test had to go through years and years of school doing the same thing. So studying a about 1000 question book with definite answers, versus memorizing all the crap they had to up until they got into college is probably a helluva a lot easier.
