Otome no Inori radio preview

(Very Good) Radio Preview of Mano's Debut. BT / YouTube

She's back on the Piano (at least I hope that's her). I like the song, it's almost peaceful, but I don't at the same time because Mano still can't sing. It's loads better then Koharu trying to sing for sure, but meh. I dunno, is this thing going to have a PV? It would be so very boring if it did. So I'd be happy if it didn't, give the PV money to someone who needs it, like Morning Musume.

Aw, I really like this new song... too bad I don't like her and her voice. I want to hear someone singing this with some emotion in their voice. I don't know why, but I think Aya Matsuura's voice would sound great with this song.

I like her voice! It sounds like if her voice matured a bit it'd be perfect for singing the ending song to a Ghibli movie. This song even sounds like a good movie ending song.

She's adorable. New plan: Join H!P and duet with her. Become the new Tsuji/Kago, calm and cute version.

I agree, I think Ayaya would be perfect for this - though if this was her new single we'd probably all be bitching about how it was yet another boring ballad.

This is really just more of the same from Erina. Every song she does sounds like it could be a theme song for Sailor Mercury. It's all very mellow 90s anime. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but it would be nice to see some more variety from her. Besides, you're not really going to sell a soloist on this kind of material. If they wanted to sell her as a ballad singer, the songs would have to be power ballads ala Angela Aki or Ayaka and she just doesn't have the voice for that. I can't ever get into any song she puts out because her voice is so airy and flat (as in emotionless).

I actually really, really like this song, and did so right off the bat. I cannot explain why. It sounds like a sad anime scene or something. I don't even know, but I really love it.

I don't entirely see why her voice keeps being described as so unpleasant. She's not exactly a skilled singer, but it's pleasant enough and it's not being strained so much that it makes me want to cry. Here's looking at you, Koharu.

It's getting a Single V. Besides, what would Morning Musume do with the money? Have longer dance scenes? Not that I'm expecting much from a PV for this.

That's actually what draws me to her. There's a quality to her voice that I find particularly soothing an pleasant. I suppose it sounds weird to say I like her because of her weak voice, but ah well.

No, no. I had typed "soothing" but felt like a turd. I completely agree.

A PV that you haven't seen will be boring? What if Erina goes on a rampage with a chainsaw? That's not boring.

Even with more money, MM PVs will still be crappy. It takes interesting ideas, not a high budget.

I like this. I kind of don't know why either, but I do. For some reason I like Mano but I just can't really figure it out. She's definitely not going to win any awards for her singing ability, but there really is something soothing about her voice and these very calm, laid back songs. I think it's kind of a nice breath of fresh air from the heaviness and/or hyperness of pop these days.

That being said, this probably won't sell very well. I hope the sales figures don't damage her "career" too much, but can't hope for too much. I feel kind of bad for Mano, bless her bland little heart.

Woah. I LOVE this. It really sounds as the ending theme for a studio Ghibli movie like someone said. I love the soothing music and the instrumentation... her voice is not great at all, but i've heard dozens of rocking songs of this same "style" sung by not so great singers. So yeah.

It sounds really fresh for H!P too, which this time turned out to be a good thing.

These Erina songs are so 80s! Idols with weak voices were the norm then (with major exceptions like Nakamori Akina, etc.), but that stuff can be incredibly enjoyable if you acquire a taste for it.

When I heard the preview, I thought for sure there would be nothing but negative comments here so I'm happy to see some appreciation for this style. Yeah, I think it is a fresh sound for H!P. "Soothing" is the word for it, though, these definitely aren't world-beating, rump-shaking jams.

I'd like to see if she can mix it up a bit in the future, but for now I can deal with this. She has yet to top Lucky Aura, though.

I completely agree with that comparison. I love me some 70s and 80s idols. In fact, that one time she did Lucky Aura on NHK, people made fun of that little dance she did with her hands because it wasn't energetic. But I loved it. She was clearly extremely nervous and she may not have even half the stage presence that Junko Sakurada had, but the movements greatly reminded of how Watashi no Aoi Tori was performed. I'm kind of sad that they haven't had her do that again after practicing more.

But you're right, she still hasn't topped Lucky Aura.

I like this song despite the singing... it has a good melody, and the piano adds some depth to the song...

The singing, in my opinion, is not bad at all, but it's hardly outstanding... sounds more like somebody singing this at karaoke, or posting their "cover" version on youtube...

And an interesting idea comes from a director, a director they could buy with that extra money. Money doesn't have to go to sets, clothes and make-up. You need to see the bigger picture.

And I'm sorry, but Mano's PV will be boring, there's nothing fun to this song. Unless you string her on a wire and have her flying over Tokyo, there's little hope for a good PV coming out of this. I'm just saving myself the grief of hope and looking at the glass half empty where Mano is concerned.

Before they ever started 'wasting' their money on Erina, they haven't shown a willingness to give money to that mythical director who would suddenly make Morning Musume's videos better if only they would just pay him. Do you think Buono!'s PV directors get paid more than Morning Musume's? I highly doubt it, but their ideas are certainly better. Money does not equal ideas.

Buono and Morning Musume are not in the same league. Buono has the added bonus of being apart of an anime series. Where as Morning Musume only have there name and pretty much nothing else behind them. I'm not going to get into a debate about this. It's obvious they don't spend enough money where it counts and groups suffer because of that. You could spend a fortune on Mano, and I still wouldn't like her singing.

I'm done with this.

I think we're basically agreeing anyway. I'm being a defeatist not expecting them to use the money on Morning Musume anyway, you're being an optimist hoping they would. This is off-topic since it's not really about Erina anymore, but I was just saying that they weren't giving money to them before whether there was a new soloist debuting or not, so I don't think Mano getting a boring PV will change much for Morning Musume.

I love the song, and she sounds a little better, but her voice is just not solo quality. If she were part of a group like Berryz or Morning Musume, and only sang a line or two at a time, she would be fine. But she just can't carry it all by herself. I like the composition, the song is just lovely... but it feels wasted on someone who doesn't have the voice to give it its full potential. I mean, she's not cover-your-ears awful, but I just expect more from a soloist than "kinda ok".

I totally agree with the Ghibli thing though. It would fit right in with one of their soundtracks.

As for the PV, I will reserve judgement until I see it.

You want a new artist to get a lot of album sales on her debut? Well, give her 4 editions of the same thing.

ImageRegular Edition comes with nothing. You Lose! :<

Image A Edition (Comes with DVD and a chance to see Mano)

Image B Edition (Comes with mini-Photobook and a chance to see Mano.)

Image C Edition comes a crappy cover and a chance to see Mano.

(They should have switched the Normal edition and C edition since you aren't getting anything with the Normal so it would be okay to give the normal the crappy cover. xD)

Links to buy the single are up on YESASIA, if anyone is interested.

I like how the A edition is just the normal edition, but with a different head-tilt. I guess with four editions, they somehow ran out of pictures.

But isn't a normal edition of a CD the one that "represents" the CD? Like once the limited editions are gone (although I doubt that will ever happen in this case unless all three are really, really limited), the normal edition is the one that stands for posterity?

Or maybe C just stands for Crappy edition (but still Cute!).
