Namie Amuro - WILD/Dr.

Post by neshcom »

WILD/Dr. is Namie Amuro's new single to be released on March 18. It will be nearly a year since the successful 60s70s80s and eight months since BEST FICTION. It will be released in CD and CD+DVD formats (including PVs for both songs).

Cool people can grab a promo rip at the audio section.

WILD is an up-tempo electronic song with a catchy, if not suspected gibberish, chorus. Too short in my opinion, but it could be that the version available has been shrunk. Coca-Cola Zero is currently using the song for their "WILD HEALTH" campaign. The currently produced and airing commercials show Namie training/fighting a giant speaker/discoball with a lot of light effects. (cocacola.jp)

Dr. (Doctor) is an up-tempo electronic/minimal/opera/march song. The sub-chorus is very grandiose, but maybe it doesn't fit well with the song? The opening and ending add a nice little narrative and opens the possibility of a sequel song. Dr. is currently being used for Vidal Sassoon hair care products. The commercials featuer Namie seated on a sofa with her hair flying perpendicular to her head. As she stis, the camera pans out (or in depending on the version) while all sorts of crazy things go on around her like doves flying and people dropping food. (vidal.jp - warning: long load times)

Yeah, these songs are amazing. I love both of them almost equally, depending on how I feel. I have had them on repeat since I first got them last night and I seem to appreciate them more and more every time I listen. I can definitely hear them being continuations into 90s - 2000s sound. And yes, they're almost way too short, especially WILD. I'm kind of worried I'll be tired of these before they actually come out in a month (?!), but I really can't stop listening to them.

Namie has really been putting out a lot of consistently awesome stuff lately, I hope she continues in this vein.

And I agree with jas, I really want to see the PVs for these.

I can imagine like... an infinite number of cool ways to make the Dr. PV! Hopefully it'll be even cooler than I imagine. 8o

Also, Dr. makes me think of Doctor Who AND Squaresoft so OMG yea just imagine the dorky cosplay skits.

And if the dancing in the Coke CM is like the whole PV for WILD well <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... iggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':sideways:' />

The Coke WILD commercial reminds me of the new DJ Max Portable Black Square. Which is a good, good thing. (I've been obsessed with the game lately. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... #>/wub.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':sideways:' /> )

That comparison aside, I love this song. Excellent beat, lyrics, melodies, and all that. I love the rapid-fire lyrics, as well as the repetitive catchy ones. I can't wait for the PV for this. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... #>/wub.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

And yes, this version of WILD has to be only a short version. That song can totally continue for a while. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... #>/wub.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Dr. just kind of creeps me out with the opera chorus, but I like it a lot otherwise. It's not as good as WILD, but a good b-side. Or is it a double A-side?

I realized that I have been listening to the songs far too much to have never seen these commercials. Now after watching them, I feel validated in listening to them so much. I also can't wait for the PV now.

It's a double a-side. Both songs will get a PV.

I didn't really care for the songs when I first listened to them, but now I can't stop. I used to like Dr. better, but WILD is REALLY growing on me. She must put CRACK in her music. And it just keeps on getting better and better.

WILD is pretty catchy, but seems largely like a filler song, except once the quad vocal layering with high synths kicks in, then it makes the whole song feel like it was worth the listen. Too bad that part isn't the whole song. I could see a video for this being pretty awesome.

Where did they get the idea to use all these Sega Genesis keyboards for both of these songs? Its awesome.

Anyway, Dr. is really good, even though the "opera" chorus is a huge change of pace and seems really out of place, at least its short and fairly un-intrusive, otherwise. Sounds like an old IIDX song a lot of the time.

These are both good and should be better with PVs but not like OHMYGODICAN'TSTOPLISTENING good. They just don't have enough unique character like a lot of her more recent stuff. Too much instrumental and not enough awesome vocal layering.

The WILD PV is out now. It's still just three minutes long <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... ryalot.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':kodama:' /> <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... ryalot.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> The video has a lot of pacing problems, a shoddy narrative, sub-par digital effects, and no resolve at the end. The director really bit off more than he could chew. The theme-- what I assume is "Randy Jackson Presents Space's Best Dance Crew"-- is too broad and not very well executed. The digital chroma key is fine, especially in the early dancing shots, but the sand cuts and last dance cuts throw off the perspective during the pans. I kinda feel like this is a sci-fi version of CAN'T SLEEP, CAN'T EAT, GET ME SOME PEPTO-BISMOL. I do like the move into the "hey we're a dance crew and i sing too" direction, but this doesn't even showcase the okay choreography which is just okay. This really makes me <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... /frown.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':w00t:' /> because I was looking forward to something more and the PV just feels like a letdown. Seriously, space soldiers/dance crew with nore lasers? <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... /frown.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D/' />

I kinda wanted a more sci-fi, gritty, expansive PV for Dr. with a cleaner PV for WILD (akin to the WILD HEALTH CMs). Cross your fingers that the Dr. PV is better.

Not two hours after you posted that, the link seems to have been taken down. I can't seem to find any other links on youtube for it either. Stupid Avex. Why exactly do they take down PV links, isn't it better publicity if that gets distributed like that?

Well, avex has its own YouTube channel. Gotta get them pageviews! Here are a couple of PV previews from the news.

Yeah, watching it, I agree with you that the PV has a lot of pacing problems. The dance is pretty boring, and there are just too many "slow motion" effects for a song that has this kind of upbeat rhythm. It's a shame really, I too was hoping for more.

Guess we gotta hope Dr. is better, cuz WILD's kind of a let down. The song is still amazing though, I am still playing it quite often.

Most of Namie's dancing has been the same in her last 6 pv's, and it doesn't help that she doesn't put that much "umf" into her dancing. From the mv I had the WHAT A FEELING/MATRIX feel to it. I'm so glad that this single has the instrumentals but the instrumental to WILD is soo good.

The sand cuts were out of place, yeah, but I liked the rest. I didn't think the pacing was a problem. It wasn't slow, just slowed down for matrix-y effects mostly during the slow parts of the song. The PV was stylish, and showcased her and the dancing well.

And you expect narrative from PVs? Aren't we on an H!P board? <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... tongue.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':cryalot:' />

The 60s70s80s PVs all had narratives <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... dammit.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':ssh:' /> So did Do Me More. Even Sexy Girl had one (hint: it was about using the john <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... lesson.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':P' /> )

Guys, calm down <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... omgwtf.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':danceman:' />

Dr. PV FINALLY OUT NOW ANIMATED IN ONE MONTH WAT

Namie Amuro's new song "Dr." will be made into an anime music video. This is the first time that one of her music videos will be a fully animated work. In addition, Amuro will appear in it as an animated character.

A group of more than forty of Japan's leading creators, deemed the "strongest" in animation, was assembled for the project. Special animators from movies, commercials, and video games are involved, including studios like the up-and-coming Kamikaze Douga, SUNRISE, and Studio Jack. The previous credits of these artists include the "Dragon Quest" series, "AKIRA," "Steamboy," and "Pokemon." Leading the project is creative director Shuichi Sato, known primarily for commercials such as Vidal Sassoon.

The music video's length clocks in at 5 minutes and 43 seconds. Usually a work of this scope would take several months to complete, but with the combined efforts of the group, it was finished in only one month.

The theme of the music video is to "go beyond space and time to bring a message of world peace." The setting is the year 3000 A.D., on an Earth left in ruin by environmental destruction and weapons of mass destruction. Namie Amuro awakens from stasis, and with the help of Dr. Chronos (named after the Greek god of time), she delivers her message to the people of the past. She travels through the years 2500 A.D. and 2200 A.D. and witnesses the world in a sad state. Discouraged but never giving up hope, she finally arrives in 2000 A.D. and successfully gives the message to a young girl. What was her message and what did the girl feel? What happened to world as a result and was the fate of humankind changed? The video ends with "to be continued...," leaving the hint of a sequel.

"Dr." is part of Amuro's new single, "WILD / Dr.," which is being released on March 18. The music video is being included on the CD+DVD version of the single.

Wow, these songs are like crack. They both grew on me so much, and I already liked them a lot to begin with. The opera part in Dr. still sort of bugs me, but I don't skip that part or the song when it comes on.

I kind of get excited when they both come up on my playlist. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... /laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':sideways:' /> Wild is the energetic setup, and Dr. is the more soothing epic one that's more mellow. They're both good songs, but in my head they go together better than that.
