I'm also completely confused as to who's side Widmore is on. He attacks the island, and Ilana's crew doesn't like him (as they tell Miles before he gets on the freighter, "You're playing for the wrong side"), but he's not on MiBs side? Could Widmore be playing for a third party?
Maybe for the cwaaazey mother.

EDIT:

Oh and here's a video of 4 actors from LOST:

Well, Richard explained everything 5 minutes in. No need to finish watching the rest of the series I guess...

You think it really is hell ?

I'm not sure, it seems more like a gateway or something. It's interesting however that this goes back to one of the earliest theories during the very first season, that they're all in purgatory.

This was a very interesting episode, Richard suddenly became a very sad character. I really don't hope anybody of the two is playing a trick on him. =(

I'm fairly certain the whole "hell" speech Alpert gave was because of his past experiences on the island leading him to believe it was hell. The theory pretty much get shot down at the end when a dead Isabella (who would know) says that they would GO to hell if they didn't stop MiB.

Couple notes:

Isabella appearing to Richard on the Black Rock while Smokey was approaching above the ship. The fuck? I think it's been established that Smokey AND his apparitions can't be around at once (evidence: Locke runs away to "find rope" for Ben, then Ben sees Smokey, smokey goes away, Alex appears, Alex goes away, Locke appears.). So that means either one of three things: Isabella's appearance was JACOB taking on her form, it really was Isabella's dead soul wandering about (neither of these two options would make much sense at all) or it really was MiB and I'm reading too much into smokey coexisting at the same moment, which is the rationale I'm going to go with.

Second: Really interesting convo between Jacob and Ben. So Jacob is protecting the rest of the world from MiB... and as a hobby he brings people to the island and lets them get mauled by MiB? When Richard asks why he doesn't interact with the people he brings to the island, Jacob says that would defeat the purpose, but then Richard says "If you don't, he will..." And Jacob says NOTHING. I really wanted a response, which kind of annoyed me. I hope that's addressed because right now Jacob seems like he should be convicted of mass murder for bringing defenseless people to the island and letting them get killed by smokey. He better have a damn good reason for letting that happen.

I really liked this episode, though. The storytelling of Richard's past was top notch, we got to see more of the Jacob/MiB feud, and we learned some very key facts about the nature of the island and MiB.

I was joking. These were the straightest answers we've ever gotten from Lost, so you just KNOW they're bullshit.

I'd always pegged Ricardus as having been from ancient Egyptian times, what with the heavy eyeliner look and there's definitely an Egyptian motif within several of the island's temples.

Also, the sound the Smokey makes has always had an unnatural technological sound. I was always on board with the intelligent nanomachines theory, but if it was around over a hundred years ago, then there are only the possibilities: aliens, interdimensional beings, or more time travel.

I got the idea that MIB and Jacob are stuck in some kind of timeloop (hence the "loophole"), of course it could also be something different.

It could be possible that MIB got the technology of his Smoke-Form from an iteration where they brought futuristic people onto the island.

I think the alternative timeline is showing us what happens actually after the final episode, when MIB and Jacob's fight is (finally ?) resolved, the bomb did not split up time.

Anyway, next week is Sun & Jin-centric ! And apparently we see MIB fighting in some way.

I LOVED THIS EPISODE omg.

But anyhow, isn't that more or less the Christian paradox of free will? If people do make the right choices in life (despite any hardships), then they gain God's blessing and salvation. However, they must earn it; life becomes a test and God (though benevolent) won't force people into being "good" and faithful. Similarly, wouldn't Jacob be someone with a lot of faith in humankind's ability to do what is right....but he will just sort of chill and watch them until they do. Smokey, then, is the devil and tempter: someone who seems absolutely sympathetic, gives all the easy answers, promises immediate gratification, and manipulates human weakness. The entire LOST becomes like a parallel for Jesus in the desert - stranded for 40 days 40 nights and at the mercy of the devil and his taunts.

There is also a jab at attachment here, with Buddhist and/or Hindu elements. Smokey represents the selfish ties that humans have to the material world -- greed for power (Ben), emotional baggage (Sawyer), selfishness (Kate), and even personal relationships (Sayid, Claire etc). Like Christianity, Buddhism (not sure about Hinduism) asks you to pull away from those things that bind you to the immediate world because they are impure and distract from your true duties in the universe.

Also, for about 45 minutes until Isabella reappears on the island.....I swore she was Salma Hayek.

This makes sense and all, and I'm all about Jacob letting people figure things out on their own (like he says, what's the point otherwise?) but I feel like it's one thing to let people "do what is right" and another to "let them get mauled by a smoke monster" MiB is only "tempting" a select few (ones who he could use for his own means) and the rest he is mercilessly killing, and Jacob is letting it happen.

Another question that rises: Smokey killed everybody on the Black Rock except for Alpert, who he needed for his own means. Why, then, didn't he kill off everybody (or most of) the 815 crew? Did it have to do with potential candidacy, or did he have his own reasons for keeping select people alive?

OOH good point....

I wonder if it only counts if they play with the same people....? Because it seems like a big game between them, with certain rules that they can or can't break (ie smokey can't kill Jacob).

Well, if you're going by the Christian God/Devil idea, then would it really be something he could stop? I mean, look at society now. If God does exist, then why would he let there be murderers or natural disasters that kill millions? I think it would be more of the fact that Jacob can't do anything . . . but then again, he can do things, which takes away the God idea. I really have no idea, just speculating too.

And as for this point, I don't know, I'm not convinced that Flocke IS the bad guy. I feel like they're building it up to be Jacob=good, Man in Black=bad, when, for all we know, he was telling the truth and Jacob IS the Devil. It's so hard to tell with Lost. I just feel like, every time I trust something, bam, it's thrown in my face. Who knows.

Man, I'm excited for next week, but nervous too. I love, love, love Jin and Sun, and I have this horrible feeling that, just to spite me, they'll either kill off one of them right before they finally find each other, or right after. (After what they did to Juliet I wouldn't put it past them. Evil bastards. I'm still upset.) Although, they're the one couple I really hope makes it. I could care less about Kate and whoeverthehell, but Jin and Sun have a child. And it's Jin. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... #>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> I love Jin.

Oh, kind of random question, but does anyone think Michael is still alive? He couldn't die, I can't imagine an explosion would kill him. Wonder where he is....hm...

Jimmy Kimmel, who's a huge LOST fan, will have a one-hour long show with Darlton and they will answer anything that might not make it into the last few episodes.

I'm not sure when this will air though.

It turns out that u are damn right! He IS the package.

It totally cracked me up when I saw the scene where Desomnd finds out he was kidnapped and brought back to the island that he tried sooo hard to run away from, he is so angry and beats the hell out of Widmore at once.

I don't know if we said we wouldn't do spoiler tags or not, but I figure it's fine not to.

So after last night's episode I have a new theory on the "alternate reality" that I figured everyone got, but apparently my brother thought something else, so I'll put this out there. Does anyone else think the alternate reality is just a place to keep them happy/keep them from asking questions? (It's hard to explain.) The way Eloise was talking with Desmond, it seemed like they were trying to delude them into thinking this was their reality, to keep them from going back to the idea of the island.

I love Desmond, though. I wasn't sure if he would be cut out of the story, because he disappeared for so long, but I'm glad he's not. But, jeeze louise, Lost is turning into romance-central all the sudden. "You'll remember the island when you remember true love. TRUE LOVE." I want someone to come in and be like, "Uh, I remember the island because it was crazy. I don't know about you guys."

After the awesomeness of the beginning of the season and the supreme underwhelmingness of the last two episodes last two episodes, I'm really worried about the end of the season.

Ah well, I still pre-ordered the complete series blu-ray box set that's scheduled to come out the day before my birthday.

Underwhelming? I thought this week's episode was excellent. I wasn't expecting a good episode because I read some episode ratings from sources who have seen info (scripts, post-production, etc.) regarding episodes unaired, and they usually close close to what I end up thinking of an episode. They rated this episode really low, which astounds me.

Anyway...

Theory time: So this alternate reality seems to be eerily similar to the promises MiB keeps making to people. He promises Sayid Nadia, Sawyer a way off the island, Claire her baby... all of these things can be found in the alternate timeline. I'm not sure it will be as simple as something like "If MiB leaves the island, every moves to the other timeline" but I do think MiB's promises are linked to the alt in some way.

Also, I think it would be REALLY cool if, at some point, the alt-losties end up seeing themselves in the real timeline, on the island, and we find out the whispers that we've heard since the beginning of the show are actually them. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... ecrazy.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

I would be slightly unhappy with that explanation if it were true. I'm pretty sure those voices showed up many times where the others were nowhere to be found (and had no reason to be) and as far as we know now, the others don't really have any magical powers to create sounds like that. After all these seasons, it's becoming more and more clear that they were just a group of people living on the island.

This probably isn't canon, but the actual whisper audio is actual words and sentences, just warped, reversed, garbled, etc. http://lostpedia.wikia.com/wiki/Whisper_transcripts

Glad I got my answer on the whispers this episode. I'm content. I was -slightly- disappointed with this episode, Hurley is awesome and all but the Alt-timeline plot seemed like a complete rehash of last week's, but with Hurley replacing Des, and less epic. On-island events were good, some really great conversations (Hurley/Jack, Ben talking about Ilana, Des/Locke, etc.)

Lastly: Way to build up Ilana's character, and then...boom.

I had heard that the actor didn't want to be on the show anymore and that was why he was killed off, so I doubt he'd come back. Such a shame, he was a good character.

I won't lie, I'm pretty disappointed by what the whispers actually are, but that could be because I really wanted it to be Zounder's theory. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... /laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' /> It was something about the way it was delivered. I just thought, "Eh. Okay." Pretty boring. I guess that does answer whether or not Michael is officially dead, however.

But wow, last minute! Desmond, you kook. There are better ways of going about and triggering people's memories. It's so sad, alternate Locke's life is so great. I don't want him to go back to knowing it actually sucks.

Yeah, it sounds like a logical (as far as the Show-logic goes haha) thing.

People that weren't too good in their actual life (or maybe even caused death) are stuck on the island.

I saw it coming that Flocke was going to throw Desmond down the well, I think that's also the reason why at the end Desmond tried to kill Flocke in alt, not because he wanted to see Flocke what's happening in the first timeline.

Desmond probably knew he got killed in the first timeline by Flocke and thought about revenge or "he doesn't deserve to live".

EDIT:

The preview for the next episode makes it look extremely awesome. However, it gives away a few things, so I think you guys better not watch it.
