E3 starts next week

Post by neshcom »

Yep, E3 starts on Monday. I personally see E3 as a little overrated, but I still manage to watch the keynotes and Gamespot's live feeds.

Last year was exciting because I guess it was a little later in June so I was in summer break and I could watch the entire Gamespot live feed. It was pretty cool. The keynotes were a little so-so. MOMMITY MOM MOM MOM from Nintendo was probably the best part of all last year though. I really don't know a lot of games coming down the pipe, so this'll be more of an announcement thing for me than additional content.

Anyone here going? Anyone watching online? How so? If not, how come? Please show your work. Pencils down. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... lesson.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Apparently Nintendo is really going to show a new Zelda game for the wii.

Eventhough at this point I just don't care about the wii anymore, I'm still interested in seeing what they're going to show it.

Anything else by nowadays Nintendo will be pretty much boring stuff, judging from all of their press conferences in the last 3 years.

The other press conference I'm looking forward to is Sony's. I'm really hoping for a price drop, because at 300€ I'd be willing to buy me one of their system. But it's more likely they're going to show off new games at E³ and announce the pricedrop at TGS.

Although I'd never ever buy a microsoft console, I'm still going to watch their show. Afterall, they got me wow'd when the at the end announced FF13.

However, I'm going to watch as many conferences as possible from all the publishers.

But as soon as anybody shows something about MW2, I'm going to pause/skip that, because I don't want anything to be spoilered by my currently #1 awaited title.

btw, I never watched a keynote, except for JJ Abrams' on an expo that I can't even remember the name.

EDIT:

GameTrailers said they'll stream in HD. I highly doubt it will work though. (Considering sites like Gamespot are barely able to keep up some low-quality crap stream)

I want Fatal Frame 4 news. I don't care if they said it wasn't coming to the US, I still want to play it. IN SOME WAY <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... yangry.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':hahaha:' />!

E3 is always big on talk, small on delivery. The only "big deal" E3s are the console announcement ones. Other than that, I really never cared (and won't this year either). Next year's will be big, because MS will probably announce a 2011 console launch.

I play mostly handhelds now, so I want some sweet announcements for both systems the most. Preferably PSP because it's gotten little play recently, though I'll probably pick up Class of Heroes when it comes out.

I want more PS2 announcements from Atlus and NISA of niche games that won't make it over otherwise (and because it's still the console I play the most). And I have a running bet on who will release the last PS2 game. Cooooome on Atlus!

I want a new Zelda game only if it's a cell shaded masterpiece like Wind Waker (err, masterpiece being the graphics and the coolest ending scene of a zelda game EVER). And it doesn't involve trains or some weird transformation ability. Man that Spirit Tracks game looks stupid. Bring back little Link and give me more of Link's Awakening, Ocarina of Time, and Link to the Past! And Nintendo better not have a shitty keynote like last year. Announce some new games for your old neglected series, not show off some stupid "RESORT FUN" game made to appeal to stupid yuppies.

The PS3 has some interesting games coming out that don't look like your standard games so I want more information on those. And announce a price drop. Well, I was going to pick on up anyway, but a price drop would be nice and the money saved could be used to buy more software. See how it works Sony? I would've been PISSED to buy one now and have the price drop a month later. And if it doesn't I'll still get one, but I want the price drop.

And the one game I wish Sega would make, Dreamcats, will be announced. People cannot resist cute kittens Sega. It will devour Nintendogs. DO IT DO IT DO IT DO IT Please no stupid raping of Sonic anymore. No Sonic games unless they're traditional 2D HIGH SPEED platformers like the good old days. Think of which, how about a real Phantasy Star while you're at it too? I want the Sega that does what NINTENDON'T back <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... #>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':rimshot:' />

I've seen something about a PSP-Go, but I think the PS3 slim is too farfetched this soon. I've seen those questionable shots of a PS3 slim, but I'm skeptical. Some of the graphics look like bad knock-offs.

PSP-Go should be significantly cheaper since it has no UMD drive. The theory is that it's basically for getting games via the PS Store online.

As for the PS3 slim, Sony kinda HAS to introduce one eventually, if only to narrow that cost/profit margin, and the sooner they can do that, the better for them.

Yep, eventually, the PSThree will arrive, pissing off early adopters for the third generation. Heh, I personally can't wait for a redesign/price drop since that'd allow me to sell my XBOX 360. Of this HD Generation (Heh, not counting the Wii), I only need my Streetfighter IV and the upcoming Ghostbusters game (which I need on EVERY DAMN system I own). I'm pretty covered this gen except for the PS3 stuff, so I'm for anything Sony announces that sound like a price drop or improved hardware for the same price.

So, the PSP Go is definitely real and some bloggers are finding similarities to the PSP Go's "box" and the PSThree's "box." The PSP Go looks nice and small, but I'm not sure how big it really is and if it's comfortable to hold. The UMD-less feature is nice, but I guess that already means no-go on the PSP's current library? No DJMAX or Monster Hunter? Regarding the PSThree box, I definitely see a resemblance, just that round-edged PS3 logo near the bottom makes me unsure about it.

So uh, nothing interesting from Microsoft, unless you're a drooling Kojima fanboy. Crackdown 2 out of nowhere which is cool, and Alan Wake in 2010.

Corrected for accuracy. The industry can never hold in its secrets until E3 and announce all the really cool stuff during random times of the year to keep people on their toes.

Well MS announced some sort of motion control camera thing. Dunno if anyone other than MS will support it. I love the Sony fanbois in absolute tears over Metal Gear on the XBOX. Sony fanboys are the most ridiculous when it comes to 3rd party exclusives, which are increasingly and rightly becoming a relic of the industry. With gaming production costs soaring into the millions it makes little sense for a company to limit its audience to one system. In the future, the only exclusives will be first party games, i.e. Halo on XBOX, Mario on Nintendo, etc.

I've always hated the whole exclusives concept, especially in the current generation when, all things said, the 360 and the PS3 are basically the same console in black and white (Wii is, of course, a completely different thing which actually does warrant exclusive attention). I can think of no valid reason why a game like inFamous wouldn't appear on the 360, or why Ghostbusters isn't coming out on the 360 in Europe (that's right folks, regional exclusives exist). It's like if some music only came out on CDs that a Phillips CD player could play, and others only on one from Sony. Just complete out of touch with reality.

So Ubisoft had its thing too... Uh, next!

That was the most boring press conference I've ever seen, far worse than anything Nintendo has ever "delivered".

They showed a several months old trailer for RUSE, talked, no gameplay for AC2, talked, some avatar whatever and nothing at all was shown except for that one guy...

CAMERON TALKED FOR 20 MINUTES ! 20 MINUTES !!

Red Steel 2 didn't look horrible, but it also didn't blew me away, the rest was crap.

Oh and RIP Splinter Cell, they made some generic shooter out of the once rather realistic and hard game.

THAT'S how a really good presentation should be done.

Sony clearly made the best one this year. (if only for not talking half an hour about generic useless casual crap)

Project Trico/The Last Guardian looked beautiful, I hope GT ups the videos in HD soon.

AND WTF FF14 ONLINE !? That came out of nowhere, at first I thought the guy was going to talk about that other FF13 game.

Actually, I'd be ready to buy a PS3 now... well, as soon as it drops to 300€ and/or a PS3 slim will be released. (I'm keeping my fingers crossed for TGS on that !)

But they still have a lot of time left, seeing how many of the games are announced for 2010.

Nintendo also surprised me with the Metroid game, though I'm not really sure if it's 2D, 3D, FPS or 3rd-Person. It seemed like a wild mixture to me.

SMG2 is of course always good, so the best game on the wii gets a sequel.

But I'm really disappointed that no new Zelda was shown. I was so looking forward to it.

I've missed the ocnference on my terrible unfortunate internet outage due to moving and work. I've seen a lot of posts regarding new games announced, but I still haven't seen the keynotes yet. I'm looking forward to seeing Sony's mainly because I've only heard yet about Agent from their conference. I hope Microsoft's is better than shilling for two hours like last year. Did I say all of this? I'm tired <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... nfused.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':whistling:' />

Upd. 1: Just saw Microsoft and watching Sony now. MS put on a nice show, but a lot of the games they showed either weren't my thing or will be on other systems (Alan Wake. Also, what's with the Natal Project? a) That teaser they showed is most assuredly either completely fake or utter crap and <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... >/cool.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' /> LOLOLOL I'M JACKSON POLLACK the stuff they did show f'realz yeah tell me what's the dealz! were either useless or clunky. Milo seems like a nice toy, and while Peter M. said it will be a game, I'm not quite as sure. Yeah, it looks nice and the interactions are great, but with something of that nature, it has to have a lot of flexibility regarding both what and how a person interacts. I wonder what it'd be like to be a complete ass to that kid. "Project?! BAH! LET'S GO DO CRACK-AINE!" Also, the 360 is getting Facebook? And twitter? That's so interesting? In-game integration with future games? This is how she talked? ALSO LIGHTING BOLT ACTION!

Quoting myself before one of you does it, HA!

So MGS Rising wasn't announced for PS3 or PC today. And WOW about 500 of the 512 comments on the Kojima Productions Report podcast blog are crying HERESY and doing the Darth Vader NOOOOOOOOOO thing. Guess none of them caught Konami's E3 listing on Games Press which was then linked on sites like IGN & Kotaku. But there's still a couple days left to E3, so I'm not too worried. Too. I will admit to being disappointed in the event that it DOES turn out to be 360-only, but really only in the sense that I really wanted to play as Raiden after finishing MGS4, and to have a new game featuring him would be a pisser to miss out on.

MGS Peace Walker is a horrible, horrible name. Up there with Quantum Of Solace. It's been so long since I owned a PSP that I don't even know what the logistics of buying a game through the PS Store & transferring it to PSP are. The PSP-Go looks pretty nice, but it's around $80 MORE than the current PSP & doesn't seem to have much over it other than the slideout controls & onboard RAM? nnnnnnnnot sure I'm up for that.

Jesus Christ, if they pulled a 180 and went from PS exclusive to MS exclusive, that's just fucking themselves again, in a whole different way. That means they instantly pissed off the entire nation of Japan, cuz no one there is gonna buy an XBOX for just this game.

I just downloaded the just-released Final Fantasy VII PSOne Classic from the store, and it can be downloaded straight to the PSP on the Memory stick. Portable FF7 has been pretty good to me these last few hours. Basically, if you purchase from a PS3 instead, you just have to make sure the Playstation Network login is the same on both the PS and PS3 and use the menu on either(I think) to initiate the transfer.

It's 360 and Vista only, actually. Most Microsoft Game Studio games are. (Unless Vista is what you meant of course <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... iggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' />)

The Milo thing was hilariously scripted and fake. "Guess what guys we solved the biggest problem in AI!" Too bad you haven't and instead have a pre-recorded "interaction" that was utterly fake and that anyone with 3 seconds of gaming experience could see through. I guess their Pedophile Sandbox game explains why all Lionhead's real games are so half-assed despite taking more than twice as long as other developers to make them.

Nintendo surprised me with Metroid 4 with Team Ninja, will be looking forward to that. I don't care about Zelda, but I would've liked to see some Pikmin 3, as well as a new IP. Overall it was a pretty boring show, although coming after Ubisoft made them look pretty fantastic. Oh yeah both the New Mario games looked fun too.

Sony's presentation was extremely boring, especially the PSP part. How long can you talk about Gran Turismo? Sony's waggle thing looked so much better than Microsoft's, and on the same level as Nintendo's, which was pretty awesome. Of course it won't work that well in real life since most of us don't have a huge stage to run around on, so I don't know what the practical use of either Microsoft or Sony's thing is. Aside from that, does anybody even own that PS3 eye thing? Nobody even owns a PS3, so I'm guessing not.

It was hilarious how Sony had E3 in their pocket for one minute with PS3-exclusive Final Fantasy... Until "Online" showed up, that is. You could just feel the disappointment wash over the millions of people watching.

And finally, The Last Guardian! Awesome!

EDIT: Oh yeah Geof's list reminded me: Kojima-produced Castlevania in 2010? <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... >/ohmy.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':whistling:' />

I don't really know what I meant by that in my post <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... hahaha.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':whistling:' /> Honestly, I don't know what inflection I was going for. I think I meant that Alan Wake is something I am looking forward to on PC.

I finished seeing Sony last night. The motion thing looks interesting, but I can tell it's a long way off. Portable GT looks like it may be pretty good if it doesn't take too long to load. They kinda sold me on the idea of PSP Go. I'd say that, even though you CAN game on it, it seems more like a dedicated media player with also PSP games. Uncharted 2 looks fun, MAG looks intense, Assassin's Creed 2 looks pretty, but has plenty of AI stuff to work on, 13 still looks pretty, probably not gonna play 14, and Modnation Racer looks great.

Nintendo time after work.

Holy shit, I somehow completely glossed over the word "Castlevania." Lords Of Shadow is a name that's been floating around for a while, and Famitsu PS3+PSP even used a silhouette of a character render last month as a teaser image for this issue's current Kojima interview. I had no idea it had anything to do with Castlevania <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... #>/doh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':whistling:' />
