Miyamoto took a stab at Microsoft and Sony during his roundtable discussion. He basically said that Nintendo designs the project first, and then motion controls were developed because they added to the experience, but Microsoft and Sony have designed these things with no projects prepared. It will be interesting to see what those get used for in the future.

E3 was disappointing.

Aside from THE LAST GUARDIAN. If I wasn't already getting a PS3, I'd get one just for that game. That trailer was like a beautiful movie. I already care about the creature and I haven't played it yet! I'm going to have to keep a box of tissues at my side for this game. I know he's going to die at the end. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... #>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':whistling:' /> I absolutely cannot wait for that game. Ueda is now tied with Matsuno as my favorite game directors. If only they'd release more games <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... #>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' /> Sadly this was the only game that really caught my eye in all the conferences.

And speaking of awesome trailers, that Star Wars MMO's trailer was NICE. Better than all 7 movies <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... >/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':P' /> I don't like Star Wars much, but that trailer made me want to play the game or at least watch all the cutscenes.

And FF14 has Yoshida as the art director, so I'll probably pick up an artbook or strat guide if they release one for it. If they fix the weird problems of the first one I might give it a try, but I'm not really good at MMOs. I get bored after a week of play, and I've tried all the major MMOs. (Luckily that's when the free trial usually ends, hahaha)

LOLZ MOTION CONTROLS MAKE US NUMBA 1!!!!11 Once again, Sony and Microsoft prove THEY DO NOT GET IT. Though Microsoft's blatant ripping off of gamers' intelligence and stupid bullshit "casual" stuff is really turning me off of the console. The glowing dildo made me laugh, and Microsoft's reminded me of that old sega add on. And Nintendo is clearly struggling with their newfound audience. They're trying to please the casuals and the hardcore at the same time and that always fails. But they finally brought over Starfy so I'm happy. Too bad they didn't do that back when the advance games were out. And Layton 2 FINALLY has media out. Release it soon, bitches!

I already have the console so I can't be turned off but it really, really annoys me too. I wish they would embrace their hardcore market because they are the best console for that market even in Japan, but they JUST WON'T. It's truly baffling.

I think Nintendo was aiming at the media more than anything. Sure they announced some games, made Iwata and Reggie show up to keep people palated, but they mostly talked about things that will make the papers, and that casuals care about. I guess, anyway. Oh The Glory of Heracles looks really nice!

Jesus Christ, if they pulled a 180 and went from PS exclusive to MS exclusive, that's just fucking themselves again, in a whole different way. That means they instantly pissed off the entire nation of Japan, cuz no one there is gonna buy an XBOX for just this game.
They already did for a bunch of other games, I don't see why they wouldn't for this. If they even care about MGS anymore, that is. The series seems to be much more aimed at American audiences nowadays. Probably because there's more money to be made here.

That new Castlevania Lord of Shadow on 360 looks pretty cool, and a remastered Perfect Dark on Live Arcade = fuck yes. Splinter Cell conviction looks fucking awesome and Mini Ninjas looks to be amusing as all HELL.

I can't think of anything else from the whole convention that really got my attention. I don't give a shit about the slew of fucking RPGs that plague the market and continue to be popular somehow.

Sony's presentation was extremely boring, especially the PSP part. How long can you talk about Gran Turismo?
Yup. Remember how much of their press conference when PS3 was being launched was about fucking Ridge Racer? The game that had already been out on 360 for a year at the time? Yeah. RIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIDGE RACEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEER!

Aside from that, does anybody even own that PS3 eye thing? Nobody even owns a PS3, so I'm guessing not.
Quoted for outstanding insight.

And uh, Shadow of the Colossus was one of the most overrated, badly made, and over-hyped games of the last decade and Ico was pretty cool, so Last Guardian is extremely meh.

Maybe a little exaggerated? It's not like the game was a piece of shovelware just thrown into the market.

Nowadays? From MGS on (unless that's what you meant), I've thought of the series to be pretty American-aimed, though I've never had a problem with that. To me, it seems more like a throwback to classic action films with the rugged hero and whatnot.

I never said there was some kind of problem with it, but especially as of the last couple games in the series, it seems to be far more popular with American crowds, and if I remember correctly, the sales numbers directly reflect that.

I can't tell you how happy I am that Kojima is making something that's not Metal Gear Solid. I still wish he'd make more original IPs because he's clearly a very creative and smart man but they just put him on this grind of the same bullshit over and over. You'd think he'd be above that, but apparently not. Or maybe he just really likes MGS. Too bad it's my least favorite thing by him!

But anyway the point I was getting at is this: Castlevania: Lords of Shadow looks great! A bit God of War but with a thousand times the imagination that anything those death metal faggots could come up with... Also... Patrick Steward?!

I actually was looking forward to that game, but now that it seemed to have succumbed to the mindless shooter market on consoles, I'm of course very disappointed.

I also completely disagree with what you say about SotC, but let's just say that's a different opinion.

The fact that the new Splinter Cell looks nothing like the other games is a good thing to me. I think it's basically a Max Payne ripoff. There aren't enough of those around, so it's something I'll keep an eye on (although I have serious reservations about everything Ubisoft makes, they tend to make half-assed shit almost all the time).

I liked the original previews of Conviction long ago when the game was still early and Sam had that beard. It seems like the game has taken on more of an open-ended, sneaking role, rather than a fluid combat orientation. Conviction looks really great and I like the showing of information within the game's actual world. It's a really creative idea to removing a portion of the HUD while making information just as accessible and visible.

I love the details on the masks. And those boss battles look epic (if that was gameplay). I hope there's not too many QTEs though. Give me tons of combos instead!

Yesterday at Konami's press conference, it was announced that there will be a Metal Gear arcade based off of Metal Gear Online.

Also, Pop'n'Music is coming to the Wii, but it uses Wiimote/Nunchuk instead of the obviously smarter option of just making PNM controllers for, say, the Gamecube controller ports.

Also also, new Dance Dance Revolution is coming to PS2, Wii, PS3, and 360. The Wii version will have Wiimote/Nunchuk as well as balance board controls (possibly along with whatever DDR pads are out for Wii.). My assumption is that the PS2 version will mimic the Wii version in terms of title and song list. The PS3/360 versions will have 8-way controllers and 150 DLC songs available.

This is very potentially incorrect. Just seeing a few scenes showcasing some of the new elements of the game lends nothing to show which of the old features they've kept in. And even moreso, the creator did mention in the pretext to the trailer that they were keeping a heavy stealth element involved, but it doesn't mean the trailer had to show it for it to be true. Trailers for games are not all-inclusive of their features.

It clearly showed what way they're going.

In the old SC games you could have never survived such gunfire, unless you were really lucky and played it with mouse + keyboard.

I agree. In the play demo, Sam took a LOT of lead. A trailer is one thing, but the play demo that was being shown was very action oriented.

One scene of a game does not dictate how the whole game will be. And if you're worred about gunfire, there's no saying the more stealthy sequences don't have much lower thresholds for damage-taking. Look at what Metal Gear Solid has become. Its an action game, but everyone still seems to love it to death, now why does everyone shit on SC:Conviction? Because its 360 exclusive?

Metal Gear Solid has always sold itself as "Tactical Espionage Action." All of the games have been a nice ratio of the three. Splinter Cell comes across to me as a heavily stealth-oriented game. I'm not shitting on Conviction; it looks like a fantastic game in it's own right, but it's comes across a lot different from the other games. Not saying it's a bad thing, just different. I don't care about 360 exclusivity because, a) it's still same day releasing as PC and <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... >/cool.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':o' /> it's probably a timed exclusive like so many before it.

Why should I care about a console version there's coming a PC version too ?

You can't deny that what they pulled off in the demo would have not been possible in the previous games... unless of course you never actually played the previous ones.

SC always tried to have a more realistic approach to the stealth genre, most probably it's the only game in this genre that actually seemed like it could actually happen somewhere some time (especially the second game, the fourth one was not really a good one overall), whereas MGS was obviously always totally unrealistic. FFS HE'S HIDING A BOX IN HIS INVENTORY. lol

I played every one of the previous ones, with SC and Double Agent being the ones I played the most, finishing both on every difficulty (and everyone whines about how much they hated DA, when it was the best game in the series to me) and while the more realistic approach to stealth was undoubtedly awesome, I don't disagree at all with them taking a different approach to the game, given the huge change in the plot. Not working for the government anymore gives Sam much more ability to "abuse his power" or training, so to speak, which I think will make for some pretty awesome story developments as well. To each his own, surely.

From the lead game designer on SC: Conviction:
Masters admitted that the combat orientation “has changed the game quite dramatically” but on whether he thought it would still appeal to the long standing fans of the stealth series, Masters commented that they were “staying true to the roots.” Furthermore he noted that “you still have all the stealth tools and stealth options; you can bypass all the guys, create distractions and get through the other areas and completely stealth your way through the levels ... it’s difficult, but you can do it”

I'm just going nuts waiting for the remake of A Boy and his Blob that is slated for the end of this year on the Wii. The original NES game was incredibly innovative (despite the rather steep learning curve and rather lackluster endgame). It's still one of my childhood favorites.

I'm really happy with what I have seen of it so far. They went with a very simple and clean character design, very cute and appealing. I really was pleased to see that they didn't try to put it in 3-D or make it over-realistic. I mean, let's face it, it's about an alien blob that changes shape when you feed him jelly beans...

What I have seen from the little that has been released looks awesome. I heard it had some coverage at E3, but I'm not sure how much or if there were any playable demos yet.

Looks fucking awesome and looks true to the beat em up form. Loving it already.
