Base Ball Bear - BREEEEZE GIRL

Post by Pucchi-Mo »

Base Ball Bear just released their 10th single. It was used to promote a line of SEA BREEZE products (starting even before their 9th single was released)

Image

This single's cover was designed by the creator of the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure manga, Hirohiko Araki.

There was a chapter featuring "Yukako" called "Diamond wa Kudakenai" and that phrase is a line in BBB's song SHE IS BACK, so their video director pointed this chapter out to them and they got Araki to illustrate their cover. There is also a girl in the PV who represents Yukako. She runs past boys and they fly into the sky. WATCH IT

This cover image is featured on T-shirts and posters. The poster comes with the limited edition of the single. Now for the music..

BREEEEZE GIRL: When I first heard this in the commercial, I thought, this would be a pretty cool single but it'll probably end up as a B-side when the Gintama OP, Stairway Generation has a single. I'm glad they released this first.

I like Shiori's I JUST WANNA BE YOUR... then Koide finishes the line with BOYFRIEND no kisetsu ni. The entire chorus is great too, that part loops on the seabreeze site, so I always had it stuck in my head.

BREEEEZE GIRL II: Right away, I hear that this song has a very indies BBB feel to it, in the style and production. The lead singer Koide mentioned in a recent blog entry that he wrote the lyrics back when he was 19 (now 24). It's a new recording, but you feel like you're in a garage during practice. You can hear their equipment buzzing, it's very scratchy, somewhat distorted, has more screaming, and he even admits to singing to sound younger. The shared "Oh BREEZE GIRL BREEZE GIRL" line is cute, actually the only part of this single that specifically says the words "Breeze Girl".

Then he reveals that it was originally going to be called ELECTRIC SUMMER.

That title was instead given to some really insignificant

random track. . . (umm their 1st official single or some crap like that?)

LOVE MATHEMATICS (Shibuya Kai"TRUE LOVE"REMIX)

I love this, I hate math. They went a completely different direction with this. The original is a rock song, this has a very electronic dance music production. The original has the lines 12345+1+2, but now everything is mixed up. They give Shiori's lines a Perfume-like treatment, cute blips throughout singing random numbers. The 2nd half gets a bit crazy (break filled with the LOUD GASP for air sound) and then mellows out with Shiori echoing Koide's verses. I had a link to the remixer's site, but can't find it right now.

That was fun, now quit messing around and put out the 3rd album.

If you like it, grab it in the audio section, and you know, comment here.

BREEEEZE GIRL: I love this song. I like when they play with Koide's and Shiroi's vocals and do back and forth lyrics. Well, the only line is the part that Pucchi liked, but hey. It's a nice tune to sit and listen to and the chorus gets stuck in my head.

BREEEEZE GIRL II: It sounds like a crappy mp3, it drove me nuts when I first heard it. Now that I'm used to it, it's alright. Funny how it sounds nothing like the former.

LOVE MATHEMATICS: The single made me love math so long as it was in a song (harhar!) and I like this remix. Nothing like the original, but it held my interest throughout the entire song, and I usually skip through remixes because they're boring/repetitive.

And WTF at the naming of the songs. Did he just slap a random title on everything? "Oh wait, that title was cool. I'll reuse it here and throw away the other one" What am I saying, I do the exact same thing when I write, hahaha! How the heck did Breeze Girl = Electric Summer? I'm still thinking about it, gah!

Sea Breeze reminds me of the face products I used in high school. I wonder if they're the same company? I haven't seen their products in forever. The commercial on the site was really cute. I hope this single sells well.

I thought it was weird how they just used the same title, but the songs are tied together with the "Natsu ine~" line. Plus, 2 technically was first. I wonder if it'll have a current sound reworking at some time, maybe on the next album.

Well, BG2 had already lost its title way back in 2006. (but otherwise, you probably described the decision accurately) There isn't much that makes the real Electric Summer have its title either, (other than Shiori saying it in the background) They probably planned to work that part into BG2 if it was going to keep its original title, she does have a few background lines where that could fit. Really, most BBB songs are about Summer, so almost any one could have potentially gotten the name.

Well they could have compromised with BREEEEZE GIRL 2: ELECTRIC Boogaloo but Geof wasn't there.

The new titling happened sometime around late April, because when they promoted the song in the commercial, it was still untitled. I'm guessing it was just to go with the sea breeze, but the 4 consecutive Es, I have no idea. It gives it more of that "manga look", like a sound effect almost, but I don't really know if it happened specifically because they had a manga inspired cover. It makes the most sense.

I wonder if Tsunku wrote Uwasa no Sexy Guy with BAN deodorant in mind, since Maki can just say "DRY ni dakishimete "BAN!" Uwasa no Sexy Guy" and the deodorant commercial goes perfectly along with them pointing out that it gives you a <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... R#>/XD.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> DRY FEELING! It must be, who really says DRY ni dakishimete outside of that song?

...Wait, so that song was for a commercial? MIND=BLOWN. Everytime I hear that song that line bothers me. It makes me stop and think if I have sweaty pits. :/ I thought it was some weird Japanese phrase that made no sense outside of that.

Actually, I wonder how many songs I've heard are used for some promo piece that I never know about. If you hadn't given the back story I would've never known about it.

Maki gives you dry pits

Amazing isn't it?

Oh yeah, I forgot about the "himitsu no kaori" line, that's so written with deodorant in mind.

Damn, this song is kind of cool, what happened with that? other Maki CM

I don't listen to them, but seeing the title of the song in this thread reminded me that there's an interesting side note to them being brought up that ties to this board. They have a new album coming out on Tuesday, and the TV commercial for the album is extremely bizarre and features none other than Yurina Kumai from Berryz, looking gorgeous as ever, but ends up getting blood all over herself! Watch it for yourself and discuss its weirdness:

Yeah, I didn't know where to mention it, so I brought it up in the August spam thread. I think the commercial is amazing. To sum up: the lead-singer is apparently a big H!P fan, and Yurina and Tsunku both commented on the album on its website.

Yeah, I don't read that thread. This seems slightly more appropriate, though, being the thread is already about them. Don't think most people care, anyway..
