Hello! Project concert 2009 Summer ~Hello!Champloo~

Shelly presents a concert review!!!! <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... /weeeh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':weeeh:' /> <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... /dance.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... #>/meh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';/' /> <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... >/clap.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... bounce.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':bounce:' />

(This is gonna be terrible because I already wrote this post and it got wiped. Now I'm gonna kill someone for it. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... >/geof.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':geof:' /> So you guys are gonna have to imagine me giving this review in a tired, puffed out way)

The first part of the concert can be found here on YT.

So the Hello! Project Summer 2009 concert came out that included all the revived groups. ml and I watched it last night and I really liked it a lot. It was refreshing from their other concerts. Here's the setlist:

27 Koko ni Iruzee! (All)

MC8(Member introduction)

28 Aozora ga Itsumademo Tsuzuku youna Mirai de Are! (All)

Quick review on group songs:

Way too many relentlessly happy one's which were:

1. Guru Guru Jump! – All

2. Piriri to Yukou! – All but S/mileage

16. JUMP – All

25. Sono Bamen de Bibiccha Ikenai jan! – All

26. Koko ni Iruzee w/ call and response corner – All

27. Aozora ga itsumademo tsuzuku youna mirai de are! – All

I feel like Guru Guru Jump has been performed at that last 3 tours. I'm soooo tired of it. Most of these songs are obnoxious happy too! Sono Bamen was not the same without Koharu's sombrero and I did end up liking Koko ni Iruzee because I was forced to sit through it. I forgot the awesome "WOW WOW WOW Lonely boys & girls~~~" part.

Revived group songs + Ice Cream Musume.

MiniMoni Jankenpyon! – New MiniMoni

(LinLin, Fukuda Kanon, Takeuchi Akari, Miyamoto Karin)

Relentlessly happy song again, but I liked this one a lot because they managed to make it not that obnoxious. The girls are wearing pretty much a Minimoni outfit with red plaid and red and white gloves! They were so cute. Karin and Akari are seriously small and young looking and ADORABLE. It seriously almost makes me want to have kids. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... ek3run.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> Linlin did a good job, I really liked seeing this other side of her and it didn't look forced for her at all like it was for Mika Todd.

Yume to Genjitsu (new song) – Aa!

(Natsuyaki Miyabi, Suzuki Airi, Saho Akari)

A cool song which is expected of Aa! I liked the instrumental in the song. It reminded me of My Boy by Buono, but a lot better, I think, a lot less in your face. The girls are wearing pink animal patterned shirts with black shirts with *TWO* sets of suspenders. Really, REALLY cute. How can you fail with 2 sets of suspenders?! I'm pretty indifferent to the girls here. Feel like this is the same side of Miyabi and Airi I always see so not much to add and I'm even more indifferent to the egg here. But overall, I do like this song a lot. The performance was alright though, I didn't feel that much energy or excitement watching it.

Pira! Otome no Onegai (new song) – Pucchimoni V

(Nakajima Saki, Hagiwara Mai, Mano Erina)

Pretty incomplete performance because Mai wasn't here. The song sounds techno-y-ish with lots of RARAruesfWOWO sounds as lyrics and lots of Tsunku in the background. I guess it also sounds like DDR. With such a high energy song and 2 girls, it just didn't feel right. The song also doesn't seem very good, it's just all over the place.

Umbrella (new song) – Tanpopo#

(Kamei Eri, Mitsui Aika, Kumai Yurina, Okai Chisato)

This song pretty much sounds like a lost Tanpopo song. Tanpopo is my favorite subgroup so any material that sounds remotely like what they would have been doing makes me happy so I like this song a lot. I thought the girls did a really cute job too. The girls are wearing pretty much a Tanpopo dress, blue plaid dresses with matching top hats. They look alright, think they could have done cuter. Eri is my favorite and I didn't know she was in Tanpopo#! So it was a surprise for me. She shows off her new cut here along with the top hat which makes it even more cute! I really want to get that cut now. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... /ph34r.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> Just not sure about the top hat. 8o Anyways, this is easily my favorite performance in the setlist.

Only You – Zoku Biyuden

(Michishige Sayumi, JunJun, Sugaya Risako)

This was a really high energy performance which made me like it a lot. It makes me want to jump and kick my legs in the air too, yay! These girls are pretty weak vocally, but they made up for it and I somehow think they don't sound that bad. I also have ONLY ONLY ONLY ONLY ONLY ONLY (on to infinity!...) YOU stuck in my head now which must mean something. I also think that this performance showed a different side of Jun Jun we don't usually see in Morning Musume and it's a side I like a lot. If only if they used her more and not for retarded happy songs like Guru Guru Jump...Either way, this is my 2nd favorite performance in the set list.

Iku ZYX FLY HIGH! – ZYX-α

Niigaki Risa, Kusumi Koharu, Tsugunaga Momoko, Tokunaga Chinami, Sudo Maasa, Umeda Erika, Wada Ayaka, Ogawa Saki)

Pretty unimpressed with this performance. It felt most likely any other song they would have shuffled at any other of their concerts, but I guess to be fair, they didn't get to perform a new song, but neither did Minimoni! Risa also gets to sing the WOW part and she wails... and has her arms in awkward positions... which pretty much ruined it for me. But the girls do wear cute dresses, that are pink and flowy on the bottom, with a sequined bandeau and a black strap across. Really cute, but it was very un-ZYX-like so they lost more points for me.

Diamonds – High-King

(Takahashi Ai, ・Tanaka Reina, Shimizu Saki, Yajima Maimi, Maeda Yuuka)

Also unimpressed with this song. I guess this was a major complaint at the release of the cover album, but this song is really boring and doesn't match High-King at all! They also performed C/C right after which only served to emphasize that more. The girls are wearing black outfits with red ruffles all over. It made me think they were supposed to be performing Latin influenced songs. Not much to say about the girls, I feel like I've seen this girls perform like this too many times.

Debut! ~Koi Suru Kado ni wa Fuku Kitaru~ - Ice Cream Musume

(Shenshen, Anchii, Youko, Reirei + Jun Jun and Lin Lin)

I really like Ice Cream Musume. They seem just so charistmatic too me. I find their cheerfulness just refreshing. So I am so glad they haven't been thrown off into obscurity yet, but not sure why not all the ICM girls were here. Hope it does not mean anything about the future of the group. The ICM girls wear pink hoodies with white puffy skirts. It was reallly cuteeee, but then Jun Jun and Lin Lin were still wearing their Nanchatte Renai outfits so it really ruined the mood and was quite distracting. I still liked this performance a lot and look forward to seeing them. CONCERT DVD PLEASE?! <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... ryalot.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> Youko was really cute to me here, I forgot she was strawberry flavored! Easily my favorite! <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... nceman.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':dammit:' />

So overall, I really liked the concert. It was super refreshing to me. I hope they do more for the revived subgroups, it really made my interest in Hello! Project go up so much more. Their last few dozen concerts were getting really formulaic. And I'm a strange idol fan, I care so much more about them performing than anything else. I was glad they gave each subgroup their own outfits, it's nice because it really helps the mood of the song and sets it more in stone that they're a group, and not just a shuffle for this particular concert that we will forget forever. Hate to say it, but this reminded me a lot of recent AKB48 concerts since they have units more or less like this too, except line ups are much more flexible. But either way, I like it a lot. Also ZYX-alpha lost 2 members recently, I hope this doesn't change anything...

OK, so everyone watch the concert now, COS I SAID SO! And give me reviews here! <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... >/whip.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':whip:' />

(As a side note, ml & I intend on watching some egg concert next if anyone feels like joining.)

I only watched the new shuffles in this concert, but I really, really liked Aa!'s new song. And for some reason I didn't think it was Buono minus Momoko. Akari fit in really well with the girls, and their voices blended a whole lot better together than Buono's, but Buono is just as good. Just a different vocal presentation, I think? Something like that...

I really couldn't stand Pucchimoni V's song one bit. I think I watched the first 30 seconds before I couldn't stand listening to Nakajima and Mano sing anymore! Shin Minimoni was good and cute, and I feel like all the girls fit well with each other and are full of energy. Tanpopo # was nice, but it was kind of boring... And then V-u-den was... okay. Not as bad as Pucchimoni V. Risako sounded surprisingly decent in this song, but I guess that might be compared to Sayu and Junjun. Not a bad group 'cause the original v-u-den wasn't that great of singers anyways. ZYX-alpha was too big, and it was just plan weird seeing girls other than HPK singing the song... Risa was a good choice for a "Mari" of the group, though. I didn't listen to the bridge's wow part, but the rest sounded good to me.

I watched the concert and I LOVED it even though certain songs have been played about a million times and they shouldn't be performed for a while. I love the revived groups. Some of their performances they performed were ok, but they could work out the kinks in the future. They could at least put an extra on the DVD where they had a performance of PucchiMoni V with Mai. I can't wait for the winter concerts (I'm looking more forward to Shuffle Date than Mobekimasu).

Well since Koharu is leaving, prepare to see GURU GURU JUMP at least one more time! Actually, I wonder if they'd turn it into a JunJun&LinLin song. That could be interesting.

Aa's performance was like a Bouno that I could care about. It's not even about the lack of Momoko. She is a world better than in her ZYX & early Berryz days. It has a cooler edge than Buono and it's not so damn predictable. At least in the case of "shuffles", they don't get enough songs to become repetitive. I loved when the monitor mirrored the dance break so it made an Aa-centipede. I also love how they sing and then there's a loud YAHOO! every so often even if it doesn't really need it at that moment.

ONLY YOU has been stuck in my head ever since seeing this performance. Also, what happened to Risako? She had almost a Hitomi Saitou-like attitude up there. How is it that the Berryz girl is taking such a role in this group? Even her vibrato & pronunciation reminded me. Yeah, you kick into the air for SILENCE, JunJun! I liked this song, but the concert made me like it more.

I enjoyed Mano Pucchiano & Guardians-popo. The higher audio quality revealed some interesting things, like the random guy yelling stuff at the start of Umbrella.

Despite Berry's reservations of Guru Guru Jump, I like the puns that the concert organizer played with the audience. The first Everybody song was "Guru Guru Jump". Then in the middle during the OMG GIRL RUSH they sang "JUMP". Finally the last Everybody set started with "Sono Bamen", which of course starts with JAAAAAAAA~N!

I loved Minimoni's entrance: "Hey look! We're short, so we can hide!" Their hands were pretty awesome as well.

Junjun's Zoku performance was awesome. Her kick that Pucchi mentioned above in addition to her rocking out so much during the song (speaking of Pucchi, I know you only like Pucchimoni's song because of all the PUCCHI LOVE! Whoa! Ah oh! ah oh ah oh ah oh!)

I liked that Ice Creamusme still exists in some form, but are the missing two girls gone for good? It was cool for JunJun and LinLin to fill in, but I wish they'd have been give some Ice Cream costumes. I mean I know H!P must distinguish the girls that are from Morning Musume, but they could have made a different color Ice Cream costume for them or something.

It's sad that Hagiwara was pregnant on the day of filming because who knows if they'll bother continuing with the shuffles. That may have been the only time we were able to see Pucchimoni V, and it was missing 1/3 of its members. They should continue to use them since only ZYX has been affected by graduations, and they were already like 8 people anyway. (EDIT: Just looked up 2010 Winter concerts and I guess the title at least has "Shuffle" in it.)

I'm pretty sure the ICM members aren't gone for good.

There was a time when basically all of them were hurt/sick.

There's not much to say that hasn't already been said, but I'd like to reiterate the fact that Gaki should never be allowed to do vocalizations again.

I loved the Zoku Viyuden and Shin Minimoni performances. Lack of Maimai made me sad, though.

Also the two ICM members who weren't there (Guuchan and Peipei) were busy in Taiwan doing... stuff? I can't remember what.

I believe it was stated that Guu-chan and Peipei had school obligations, and Reirei went and sang anyway even though she had a leg injury. What a trooper, though she did look kinda.... silly and lonely.... over there, in her chair.

However the performance reignited my love for Shenshen. <3 She is so cute. It was nice for Linlin and Junjun to fill in for the missing girls, but since they sang the japanese version of the song, it could have been anyone really - I would have preferred the Mandarin version somehow.

Only You was fun, but Risako and Sayu's vocals aren't too good live. Ok, sometimes they aren't in their recordings either, but the album recording of this song, I did really like. Maybe I had my hopes up too much...

Loved the shin Minimoni performance, they did very well! Karin is about the cutest little thing I've ever seen and I demand more. Also, Kanon makes me smile. I love her too. <3

Speaking of Kanon, I was happy to see a S/mileage performance that wasn't lip-synced. They weren't perfect, but they have the raw talent and it was good to see them perform.

For most of the shuffles, though, I kinda wanted to hear the songs from the albums more, they were stronger overall. Aa!'s was cool, but I wanted to hear Akai Sweet Pea (which has grown on me immensely since I first heard and disliked it). It's kinda funny that through some of these shuffles I ended up hearing members that I usually wouldn't because they haven't gotten the spotlight in songs before. Like Chisato. I had no idea she could sing so well. After hearing more of C-ute than just Maimi and Airi, I must say that they kick ass vocally. Now if they could just get some decent songs to show that off, then maybe I would pay some attention!

Not gonna comment on every performance, but the concert overall was a nice change of pace, and enjoyable overall.

Oh yeah, THIS. Poor ReiRei in her chair all the way over there. At least she got a decent amount of close-up camera time! And I was really expecting them to sing in Mandarin, especially since Tsunku LOVES to remind us that JunLin are Chinese and that would've been the perfect opportunity to, but hey, at least we got to hear that their Japanese improved a little bit. I've just now realized that I am full of "at leasts".

I think they just gave the girls some more time to memorize the lines. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... >/rofl.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

About the concert, I still couldn't watch the whole thing because it will take some time until the Winter DVDs (I like to save <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... >/sigh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':cryalot:' /> ) but I did get to the first half and skipped through the rest to get an opinion. Let's see then... This concert had a lot of Airi, I'm her fan so it was okay for me but I was surprised. I couldn't even see much of Maimi or even Risako as I usually do in other concerts but that could only be my impression. Actually, as I only watched half and even skipped Nanchatte, I didn't even see a lot of MoMusu <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... #>/huh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> .

I love S/mileage's performance, that song went well live, I thought it would be a little bit boring... But I missed SC!E, they could have performed that song G4 did and then G4 could have done School Days!

And Shin MiniMoni! I'm a Kanon fan but I didn't feel her as much there (there were times when it didn't even seem like she was moving her lips for her lines...), LinLin simply ruled. And Karin! She's so cute <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... #>/wub.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> .

My biggest surprise was DaYeun (or however it is written, I know nothing about Korean, sorry.), I hadn't read anywhere that she showed up and she was so cute! And tall near Risa! She didn't look 13 years old... (Maybe I got her age wrong? <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... #>/huh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> )

And then I skipped to Tokaikko Junjou, another number I didn't know of. I just had to watch how it would be without Maimai and... It was almost an Airi solo <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... R#>/XD.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':XD:' /> ! Plus, it made me notice that °C-ute is the same unless you take Airi or Maimi out. And I even like Maimai, I missed her in PucchiMoni but °C-ute didn't look strange at all as a gonin. Perhaps, I just got used to seeing one girl less each time they perform?

All in all, it wasn't a boring concert but the formula can get a bit tiresome if they use it again for the Winter ones.

(I forgot to comment but in the credits they got Nakajima's name as Aki <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... >/nono.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':excited:' /> )

I just ordered my copy of this from CDJapan. I'll give a full report when I can. Thanks for the heads-up, Strawberryjam.
