82nd Academy Awards

Post by aine »

Thread for discussing this year's ceremony for the last year's movies! And them movies themselves! And anything related. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... opcorn.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':whatthe:' />

I have seen a whole 1 out of the nominated movies. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... /laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> So all I have to say is this:

- as much as I loved Avatar as an escapist guilty pleasure, there's no way it deserves the Best Picture and 8 other nominations. Unless 2009 was a very very bad year for cinematography in general. But I don't think it could have been this bad, so it's sad to see the old Academy farts giving in to the hype. Or the well stuffed unmarked envelopes.

- the lack of Ponyo in the Best Animated Feature is a travesty, scandal and outrage in one and made lose almost all interest in this year's gig. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... >/geof.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

- fuck you Pixar. :< (because I'm so sure they will get it again with Up)

Precious was not that good of a movie.

I should watch some of the nominated documentaries. I love documentaries a lot more than I should.

FUCK YOU ACADEMY AWARDS AND YOUR BULLSHIT!

I've seen all of the films in the animated catagory. Though I enjoyed Coraline, it was not better than Ponyo - on any fronts. I at least wanted Ponyo in for the masterful glorious (superior to 3D) 2D animation. I am pleased Fantastic Mr. Fox and The Secret of Kells made it in. But yeah, Coraline's spot should've been Ponyo. I'm going to go vogue and give it to FFMF. Out of all the films on that list, it's the only one I can say should win based on use of techniques and story. Of COURSE Pixar will win. But as much as I loved UP, Pixar doesn't deserve it this time.

I wanted Ponyo to win too. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... #>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

At least Invictus got nominated twice, I think. Not that I have seen it yet. But I would die for CLINT. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... #>/wub.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

And boo to Avatar. 9 nominations is way too many. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... >/sigh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':whatthe:' />

ALSO, I must be the only person that thought Star Trek was an average flick. I should rewatch it again and not on airplane where I can't hear half the things being said.

Has anyone else heard of The Secret of Kells? Because I haven't.

I call BS on the Oscars since Titanic swept the awards. Avatar will probably do the same thing. Oscars are a whore for James Cameron. No offense, I think he's awesome but highly over rated. I didn't think Titanic was that great of a movie and I still don't.

I'm surprised he didn't try to weasel his way into the Animated category too. xD

Oh and Randy Newman will win for best song because it's Randy Newman and he's a cow. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... iggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':whatthe:' /> (And I hate him!)

Did they REALLY need to nominate 10 Best Pictures? Only one of them is going to win, it'll probably be Avatar, but I'm shooting for UP, just because it would be a total upset and an animated movie has never won best picture. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... iggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

But it would be even funnier if they said Up, paused and then said In The Air. That would make the Oscars worth watching.

Wake me up when they announce the Peoples Choice Awards, but then again I bet those are fixed too.

WTF, TEN Best Picture nominees? TEN? Where was this last year when that Kate Winslet movie stole it's way into eligibility by being released in two, count 'em, TWO theaters in late December, edging out The Dark Night of it's rightful place in that category?

And WTF@TFW2005, Transformers is nominated for Sound, but NOT visual effects? I mean, it's not like anything has a snowball's chance in hell against Avatar, BUT THAT'S NOT THE POINT.

I dunno why anyone even bothers with the Oscars anymore. With few exceptions, Best Picture always ends up being whatever was released around Christmas.

I read this somewhere else, but logically speaking, if Up is the only animated movie nominated for best picture, doesn't that mean it's going to automatically win best animated picture? and thus make it an even bigger longshot for it to win best picture? Oh Oscars.

I also read this somewhere (because I have no opinions of my own) Avatar is probably going to win because it energized people into getting to to the movie theatres, instead of staying home. The big two seem to be The Hurt Locker vs Avatar.

(And now for my own actual opinion) I hope The Hurt Locker wins and wins best director too, because FUCK YOU CAMERON. Everyone slobbers on his cock because oooh, his movies are an EXPERIENCE. I reserve my right to remain cynical and jaded and NEVER TO HAVE FUN IF I DON'T WANT TO. Also, Titanic was shit.

Titanic WAS shit, but wow do I pity you if you got nothing out of Terminator, Aliens, Terminator 2, The Abyss, or True Lies.

I only got one horse in this race and that's INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS, which got 8 noms. It'll probably only win Best Supporting Actor, though. I'd love it if somehow all the other nine Best Pic nominees canceled each other out and IB took the prize. There could be a surprise there. Because of the odd way the votes for the ten are compiled (I read a description of the process but can't remember it), it's possible for something that gets 11% of the vote to win.

I can't deny Avatar anything for visual effects, but how in the hell is it nominated for anything else? It was a goddamn tech demo for Cameron's Battle Angel Alita project, and that's it!

District 9 is the one I wish would win, but I wouldn't be upset if the Hurt Locker took it. And I thought the animated category was created specifically so animated films were taken out of the best picture running. Either way, Up was good, but I liked Coraline better, and Ponyo was technically from 2009 anyway.

Also, how in the shit did everyone fall for Tarantino's shenanigans this time around? Basterds was my single most disappointing movie of the year. What's next? 12 nominations for a home movie of Quentin jerking himself off for 2 hours? Because that's basically what IB was.

PS. Everyone knows that this year's Oscars is a sham because in the real voting Black Dynamite won every single award, and was also retroactively named Best Picture for the previous 81 years as well.

I liked Inglorious Basterds, UP, Avatar, Transformers 2, and Titanic. I never saw Ponyo or District 9.

I feel NOTHING. But thank you for the pity.

Also, IB was an okay movie, but it does not deserve any real awards other than Supporting Actor. I also did watch Ponyo, but it wasn't... the best thing I've ever seen. I liked Up better, but Ponyo still had a lot of the Miyazaki feeling.

As I said, I don't care about these awards at all, but it's still beautiful that craptar didn't win anything important.

Sucks that District 9 didn't win, it was my favourite movie last year.

I was very pleased with this years Oscar wins, especially Hurt Locker winning out Avatar. I didn't know James Cameron was married to Kathryn Bigelow at one time. That just makes it that much more awesome that she won I think. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... /smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' />

And Avatar deserved it's visual effects award and that's the only thing it deserved cause the script was crap and I didn't care for the acting either.

The Oscars themselves weren't bad, but the opening had me reaching for the remote a few times. All I could say was, Awkward!

Glad to see James Cameron got snubbed though. He's a fucking pretentious ass.

The fact District 9 was nominated for anything other than special effects surprised me. When it came out, I thought it would go under the radar and become an obscure cult movie.

I didn't think Avatar would get anything but the special effects award and I'm surprised to hear people thought it would. One thing I'll say about Cameron is that he's good at developing other people's ideas to film and I pray that the Alita adaptation won't turn into a big, dumb bloated Hollywood mess.
