Yeah, totally. One of the other really popular girls of AKB has stated since the beggining that her childhood dream was to be a part of MM and that she loves H!P and nothing happens.
Kashiwagi Yuki even took part in the 8th gen auditions.
But instead we got fucking mitsui... =/
So at least one of them is probably quite a big fan.

So did Satou Sumire. Anyone still have the gif of Sumire bouncing under Miki's skirt?
Also Umeda Ayaka took part in the lucky seven audition. I also heard Matsui Jurina (SKE48's wonderchild) once took part in a H!P Kansai audition.
Edit: Found another one: SKE48 Kito Momona and for good measure Kashiwagi Yuki's audition

Re: AKB dramz
And what's really funny is that all H!P rejects are SUPER popular in AKB currently (well, everyone except Umeda but she still ROCKS).
Kashiwagi is like top10 right now, Sumire just got oficially into one of the teams and she's already featured in group PVs and appearances...
And honestly, they are all pretty good performers. Waaaaay better than Aika, and for good measure Kusumi.

Yeah it's p. easy to be a "good performer" when you don't sing live. Unless this "performance" they do is showing their panties to whoever drops into the theater, in which yeah, I'm sure they're the best in the business.

Re: AKB dramz
It doesn't really have anything to do with AKB48 as much as it is someone making false statements. :T Especially when it has to do with my beloved Aika and Koharu. :>
Re: AKB dramz
^Dude, only in the audition video posted above you can see that Kashiwagi is a FAR better singer than Aika AND Koharu together.
Also, not every single AKB48 performance is lipsynched. Search for any Music Fighter performance and you'll hear live vocals.
I stand by my statement and I won't concede that it's false. grr.

Re: AKB dramz
I just watched the Iiwake Maybe performance, and on top of them all singing at the same time with no solos that aren't half a second long, they're singing over the original vocals which are really loud. It's really hard to tell if any of them are good. :/ It's also really way easier to sing when you have a vocal track guiding you.
I also watched Yaruki Hanabi, but it was the same really quiet live singing over the blasting CD vocals. And Sakura no Shiori, one song that should nottttt be lipsynched wasn't live in the slightest. Is that even actually them singing?
I hear all the time that AKB48 are waaaay super talented and better than H!P, but the only names that ever come up as good singers are Kashiwagi, Masuda, and maybe Akimoto and Sae. Out of the 100+ girls that are in AKB, SKE, and SDN. Compared to Takahashi, Reina, Eri, Risa, LinLin, Airi, Chisato, Kanon, S/mileage Saki, Risako, Miyabi, and Momoko? Out of the like, 25 girls in H!P? Show me something that can live up to this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vCQytT5XR60

Wow, Takahashi has her voice under control here. I wish they'd be like this all the time.
I know this is a bit contradictory but, I think mm has always somewhat resisted being "just" an idol group. From the very genesis of the group -- leftover girls from a rock solo audition - they have been somewhat different than your average idol. Tsunku even told the girls they didn't have to smile if they didn't want to! This will always set them apart -- even if only by inches -- from pure idol groups like AKB48.

http://v.youku.com/v_show/id_XODY2MjA2OTY=.html The only live vocals I've ever seen AKB48 do in a TV performance.
There are other times where some members sing live during the stages and even some of the concerts, it's just in post production, it gets dubbed over. It sucks really.
But yeah, the AKB48 Musical pretty much has all of the talented girls singing live, but other than that, there are rarely any live performances. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... #>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Re: AKB dramz
Yeah, that's at least 100% live. They're not horrible at all, but not even close to being any better than any H!P groups. Probably not even Guardians 4.
That's really the only thing that bothers me in the whole dumb "my idol group is better than yours" people like to have. Like dude, if their producer doesn't even let them sing live 99.9% of the time, I doubt they're anything to rave about in that department. XD Say their music is better/they have better personalities/their TV shows are more entertaining to watch/whatever. That's all opinions, but saying that they're, as a whole, more musically talented than H!P is outright false. That'd be like me saying that H!P puts more money into their PVs than AKB48 does.

Yeah, the live performance are one of the main reasons I still prefer H!P.
You'd never see AKB48 do something like the a cappella performances Berryz Koubou do in their concerts or the tap performances C-ute does.

I don't know if you're still refering to what I said before. I guess not, because I didn't say that.
I said that Kashiwagi and the other H!P rejects that are now a part of AKB48 (which are 3 girls in total) are better performers than Aika and Koharu, the girls that were chosen OVER them.
I agree there's not a single Takahashi Ai in AKB48, though, and that if only Tsunku and UFA was giving MM better material/promotion/attention, MM would be probably still be rocking it.
Personally, I can just say that I am not entertained by MM anymore. Which sucks! Because I still have a lot of love for the girls and I really do believe there is SO much potential in some of them... but that's my personal case. AKB entertains me, H!P doesn't.

Re: AKB dramz
AKB be damned, that C-ute performance puts EVERY idol group to shame, That was awesome.
And I still see zero point for AKB to exist at all. If I want cute idol pop, HP still wins, hands down. If I want better music, there's EVERY OTHER ARTIST AND GENRE on the planet, so AKB offers nothing musically. I like HP for the cute girls and quirky personalities, and I've not seen an AKB girl I'd call "cute," and I'm pretty sure the lab that produces them never invested in personality technology. Now, that leaves only one thing AKB would be qualified for: sex appeal. however, like with the music statement above, why bother with those little cock-teases when there are far more attractive (and naughty) gravia idols out there which are far more worthy of attention?
I do give their producer props for cashing in on the whole lowest common denominator otaku with tons of disposable income boom, although those fuckers are gonna implode soon when the anime market eventually crashes.
For us in our late 20s-early 30s and vividly remember the early 90s, I'm going with this analogy: HP is Marvel and DC comics where AKB is Imaage comics. The former was old school and people started considering them too "lame" or "cheesy," while the latter was darker and edgier and "OMGWTFAWESOME!!!" Image was at the top for a few years, but eventually the new car smell wore off and they became nothing more than a bad self-parody, the people who though they were so awesome at first got a little older and wiser and realized just how shit it was and they return to the classics at Marvel and DC. Thankfully, however, unlike Marvel and DC at the time, HP hasn't really tried to change their image to keep up with "what's cool" at the time, and are still doing what they've been doing for the most part.
Also, Sayumi has announced she's going to be Prime Minister, so if AKB is still around they just be reduced to her own little harem anyway..

Well three out of the five she's obligated to like.
I'm not saying AKB is bad. They're actually fairly good. But their songs sound almost all the same (RIVER and Sakura being exceptions) The concept is nice, but it's just...worn out. The should stick to theatre tbh.

Dude, if those clips of Berryz singing a cappella and C-ute's tap-dancing doesn't entertain you; then the only thing that I can think that would entertain you would be the main thing that AKB is popular for (and it has nothing to do with music). I'm not that big of a Berryz fan; but those two performances totally wowed me!!

Re: AKB dramz
Yeah, those clips were really nice... I'm kinda sad I didn't watch any of those concerts... but then again not really.
As I said, I still LOVE H!P, I love so many of the girls, and OH YEAH they have entertained me. I still watch old episodes of H!M all the time just for the laughs.
That being said, nothing NEW H!P has put out it the last year or so has made me want to get into them again. And oh yeah I'm sure there are still many interesting performances in recent stages, but honestly if I don't like any of the recent songs (which is the case) there's not going to be any motivation for me to watch any of the recent concerts (well, except clips like those, I really want to watch the C-ute concert now).
But yeah, this AKB vs. H!P discussion is definitely pointless. The truth is that I love them both, and to be honest I just feel really sad about the things that I don't like of the current H!P. I REALLY want them to be my favorites because of how awesome they were at one point...
But one thing I will say. Of course there's plenty of personality in AKB, they're idols! Just watch an episode of AKBingo or any other of their shows (they have like 5 right now).
I don't know, I guess my point is that there's really cool things in both groups, and sometimes I feel like the fandoms have become so mutually excluding that I end up seeming in a very radical position, which is not the case.
As I said, I still LOVE H!P, I love so many of the girls, and OH YEAH they have entertained me. I still watch old episodes of H!M all the time just for the laughs.

I don't really think it's a mutually exclusive thing........I just think that too many fans over-evaluate one tiny little detail from either group and base whatever opinion they form off of that. And then instead of saying, "in my mind this is how it is" they write it as if it's the truth; when in fact it's just an opinion.
I have nothing against AKB, I'm sure they're awesome performers as well; but it's just a matter of taste and people kinda forget that.
But to be honest, and coming back to the topic at hand, isn't it time for a huge scandal from AKB? I mean, you can't really be popular with that many girls and not have a scandal going on.

Hm. I don't really get why AKB48 fandom bleeds into discussing H!P fandom and vice versa. I don't understand when people go out of their way to talk about one's interest in a group as somehow necessarily the direct result of some problem with the other group. It is not as though liking one precludes interest in the other, or somehow diminishes the other. Like, I would never say, "lately I am listening to David Bowie because H!P got so fucking boring omg whores." Makes no sense, right?
And yeah, I understand comparison is inevitable because idol groups are similar but, it is also like starting a war between udon lovers and ramen lovers.

Maybe I'm looking at it wrong. Maybe idols are less like noodles and more like professional sports teams. It isn't a question of liking basketball but that if you like basketball, you have to express it by rooting for a specific team and hating all other teams.
That is too bad. Idols should be more like noodles. Same basic idea and ingredients with slight variation. Always yummy.

The problem is, they're not really the same game either. HP is like the NFL, the pure, real deal. Idoling and their ilk are arena football, a fun alternative, but not as good as the real thing. And AKB is their loud, trashier inbred cousin, the XFL.

I agree with Kaworu that AKB48 has plenty of girls with personality. I also think there are cute girls and girls that are cute once you get used to the wonky teeth and learn more of their personality. I've watched AKBingo since it started and I really like some of the girls. I just don't like them as performers. I went to two of their concerts last august and was disappointed because it was all lipsynched and some girl were ugly and or crappy dancers.
Apart from the slightly more aggressive sales tactics (senbatsu elections, two-shots, tons of handshakes events) I don't see how AKB48 is different from other idol groups. Are they really more trashy than other idol groups? The difference isn't that big from what I've seen.

Well three out of the five she's obligated to like.

Well, you don't hear any of the other girls in Morning Musume say on their blog they're listening to Berryz Koubou's latest album. I think it's safe to say Sayu likes idols/cute girls in general.

That's beside the point, because you will never hear them say "I don't care about them".

That's just an unfortunate camera angle and some crafty editing. I know panty shots are common in AKB48 performance but look at these pics from morning musume's recent alo hello photobook.
Classy or trashy?
