H!P/Morning Musume Primer

Post by vanillacat »

Ok, in short: one of my friends on twitter (a Super Junior first and foremost, of course, because that's how I roll) recently tweeted about "watching old videos of Takahashi Ai and dying of the cute", so naturally I asked her about it.

Then, to my surprise, she said she's "admittedly still very new to the fandom" and "wants to get into it" but "has no idea where to start D:"

Which brings me to my next question - you guys are, for the most part, old-school fans, ones that have a pretty good knowledge of their back catalog. How should I go about trying properly introduce this girl to Morning Musume? Considering she's a Super Junior fan, she'd probably appreciate cracky clips and general silliness much more than, oh I don't know, a bikini PB. Her favorite as of right now is Takahashi, but that's up for change of course depending on what I send her. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... #>/meh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':cryalot:' />

Send her every video of Konno Asami ever taken.

Here's tons of subbed clips from one of those talk shows

Those should help her get to see the different personalities.

Make her watch the Single Daizenshuu concert. It'll let her hear most of the singles up to now without having her get attached to a member that's long gone.

Get her the two Mechaike specials Bakajo and Okajo.

There is nothing better where anything from H!P was ever involved. They are also the two funniest shows Japan has ever produced.

Takahashi has only a small part in them though. (since she was new [and is in general boring and unfunny])

Nah, man, those are before she purposely lost her accent. And losing her accent is a metaphor for her personality.

I'd also suggest the Surprise English Lessons if we're showing goofy clips. Of course, like Mechaike, it's not really current.

That's so true.

She actually was kinda quirky (for the lack of a more fitting word) at the beginning.

Thinking about her accent, I remember that Utaban appearance where they sang that "hoppi de hoppu". haha

If that's the case, she never had an accent at all, she even said so in Joshi Kashimashi Monogatari. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... /laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':cryalot:' />

Kaori's Graduation concert. Definitely one of the best of recent years.

13-nin Gakkari Xmas special. In 2 hours, Konno goes from completely unnoticed MM member to Godlike status.

Heheheh, I was going to suggest this as well.

The Futarigoto clips are good to introduce your friend to the different members (yeah, I know most have graduated since then. But they still have 5th and 6th gen). Having so many members in Morning Musume can make it difficult to figure out who's who, but maybe the Futarigoto clips will help. dj-waffles.com should have most if not all of the subbed clips.

Most of the stuff that would really hook someone on MM probably isn't recent imo.

Certainly Mechaike specials and English lessons like already mentioned. If she's a Taka fan the alo hello with her is pretty lulzy. If you can find that 13nin de bakkari christmas special (it's something like that but I can't remember at this point) it was pretty gd funny. Certainly some older Hello Mornings and such; new years specials are the best imo.

Have her watch Ayaka's Suprise English Lesson's, Utaban, Hello! Morning (on Veoh), HaroMoni@, & Yorosen.

Especially the first 3! They helped me learn all of Momusu and their personalities. Yorosen is good to know H!P Kids better.
