Shinichi Osawa's gearing up to release his new solo album, SO2, shortly! We had heard rumbling about a new album at the beginning of the year on his Twitter and blog and a number of short demos he released are going to be full-length tracks.
In promotion of the album, 13 web commercials were created, one for each song. Each web commercial is a small part of the full-length music videos. One music video, Love Will Guide You, has already been released. A number of DJs (including Taku Takahashi) have also created short mixes using the albums tracks. Both versions of the retail CD will have a DVD will all 13 music videos and the Deluxe Edition will have an additional mixed CD.
Shinichi Osawa was originally the producing force behind the band MONDO GROSSO whose genres ranged from rock to samba. Eventually Shinichi Osawa single-handedly took over the name MONDO GROSSO and release a number of albums under Sony Music. In 2007, Shinichi Osawa moved to avex's Rhythm Zone label. The same year, he released The One, his first album under his own name. The One had a number of stylistic influences from classic rock to pure electro and has since been released in the US and UK. Last year, a two-disc compliation of Shinichi Osawa's Japanese and international remixes, TEPPAN-YAKI: A Collection of Remixes, was released with two new songs.
Shinichi Osawa's style is as vast as it is indescribable. His latest tracks and remixes have assuredly had a very thick electronic feel (compared to the acoustically-inspired The One) and SO2 looks to show where his sound exists now without the aspect of being a remix (though what is listed as BBB BBG on the website is actually his remix of BB Boys BB Girls from Hac Mac).
