I was surprised to find that I ended up liking Lion Heart more than You Think. It may just be that I had already overdosed on the English demo version of the latter. The lyrics don't flow the same in the SNSD version, whether because of the Korean translation or because of the lack of vocal chops, and end up feeling lethargic and clumsy because of it. Whatever the cause, the end result is nowhere near as punchy as the demo. The MV's direction doesn't help either, because the close up individual glamour shots don't mesh with the attitude of the song.
 
I guess I can never fully buy SNSD as "fierce"; the most they can achieve is a sort of cool sophistication. They're much better at handling the semi-cute stuff like Lion Heart, even if that's not something I particularly wanted.

The rap was so awkward it makes Sooyoung look like Tasha

I just listened to the whole album and there were some really boring, slow songs :(
the one I liked the most, Sign, sounds like a rip-off of F(x)'s Zig Zag without the great chorus. Some people say it sounds like Pinocchio too but I think they're just crazy, it's actually Zig Zag

Heh, I kind of tune out rap sections automatically. I would call both versions of the rap about equally cringeworthy in this case.
 
I think my favorite track is Bump It. Check is also great when seen with the choreography.

The song reminds me of those hipster-pop songs that try too hard to be emotional, but always get used in phone or car ads in the past few years.
All it needed was a clichéed guitar strumming part.

THANK YOU.  That was my first thought when i just listened to the song by itself for the first time.  But better at the beginning than in the middle of the song when all I really care about is Taeyeon lol.

That was my reaction at first, but after reading the translated lyrics, the rap part introduces the main idea, so it kind of has to be at the beginning (if it's going to be there at all). Musically, I still agree that the placement sounds odd. It feels like it should at least come after the first full chorus as a contrasting theme.


Also, if you're interested, consider checking out the other album tracks. "U R" is beautiful.

I didn't mind the rap. I wasn't expecting it and I probably would've liked the song a little more if the rap wasn't there but it didn't sound too out of place like raps do in most K-pop songs.

I'm not sure if the two Taeyeons are supposed to be different people in that video, but watching her quit her waitressing job to drive freely in her BMW was kinda funny.


I was eh about the whole thing in the beginning, but I really love it by the end. The scenery is gorgeous of course, and Taeyeon is incredibly beautiful here even with her blonde hair that I can't figure out if I like or hate on her. I'm happy if these are the kinds of songs she's going to do solo, uplifting and utilizing her excellent vocals without overdoing it like a lot of talented singers do to show off. Overall, I'm very happy with the whole package.

I actually thought the rap was good. It was clearly about Jessica's situation post-SNSD, and was uplifting, so I'll root for that any day. There are too many songs with featured rappers who talk about money and hoes during their part, when the rest of the song is about something completely different.


Tiffany's song was ok, Jessica's song was ok, and Taeyeon's latest song, Rain, is also just ok.

I doubt the full song will stay in the electro genre the teaser suggest, but considering how unbearably beautiful Taeyeon looks in Starlight, I can't wait for the MV.
