Ga-in's MV for Bloom is out and it's... er, adult. I guess I have delicate sensibilities or something, but I really prefer subtle sexy over this. I get that it's about sexual awakening, I just wasn't expecting Ga-in pleasuring herself under a kitchen counter.

Anyway, here's her doing Tinkerbell and Bloom live. The coreography's really interesting for Bloom and Ga-in's obviously a fabulous performer, but the stage for Tinker Bell was underwhelming to me.

I thought it was worse from the way you described it to me. I wasn't bothered by it, but then again I am a perv of the highest caliber. It's nice to see a woman taking charge of her sexuality in ways that don't involve the color gray~

Yeah, it wasn't as bad for me on second viewing, and I really like the song. Still not what I expected, though I'll be first to admit I have more delicate sensibilities than most.

No more naked kids in K-POP:

http://www.koreaboo.com/index.html/_/ge ... age-r18120

I really wonder how they're going to regulate this, meaning what is OK and what is too much ?

The article isn't very clear about it, so I don't know how clear the bill is.

The KCSC aims to rework the bill so that "children, teens and entertainers won’t be commercialized as sex objects in the media."

That's still going to happen though.

I wonder if this is going to apply to boybands too.

The article also says something about a preview law of music videos.

Half band, half idol group AOA released "Wanna Be". It's a rather fun video; the members dress up as characters from popular movies, books, and plays.

I like this song!

There were two characters I couldn't recognize. The rapper's character (short bob, collar, black tube top, brown shorts, and drape jacket) and the princess-like character (white evening gown with long gloves) in the rose garden.

The first one is Mathilda (Natalie Portman) from Léon.

The other is probably one of those Disney princesses.

I am a stranger in this foreign land, but I trek to inform the populace that tech new site The Verge has written a feature on K-pop coming to America. It talks about K-pop's undergrond success, psuedo-individuality, and the fast and targetted of the industry. Very interesting.

You gotta scroll down to the last 1/3 with the stills from the signs.

E-Young - Far Beyond the Sun (Yngwie Malmsteen)

I'm intrigued. Is her skill being put towards anything useful, or does it get wasted on being a backing vocal in yet another generic K-pop girlband whose claim to fame is apparently covering Love Machine?

That's all I managed to find on a short notice. Excuse me if I'm being a Madara of the K-pop section.

Well that sucks. I can't tell if she's the most competent player out there, but surely pulling off this basically 6 minute solo can't be trivial. She deserves a better career.

I'm not sure what point you're trying to make, or whether you're being sarcastic towards me or the Korean showbusiness model.

But if they're so skilled and/or talented, why don't they form proper bands and play good real music? Because it feels like their producers just tick all the possible options on the "FUCKING IRRITATING" panel in their magical music producing machines and are content with it. I feel that ever since that dreadful "GEE GEE GEE GEE BABY BABY BABY" song I've only heard slight variations of the same sound, composition, themes and motifs. With some very rare exceptions. Honestly, I think Gangnam Style is one of the more tolerable K-pop songs, and it's just too bad that it got ruined forever with the viral stupidity.

I guess I ranted again. I just hope E-Young (btw, dear Lesser Korea, please cut it with the hyphenated names already, it's old, uncool, and obnoxious too) ends up better than music competitions nobody knows about and a disheartening girlband, because after seeing the clip I posted and a few others of her it feels like such a waste.

I present to you, AOA! Usually only one or two instruments is live, but that's just how Korean music shows work, sadly. Even bands like FT Island and CN Blue are generally stuck live drums and keyboard at best. It's been confirmed that the girls can actually play their instruments on various occasions, though.

Fact is, Korean audiences show little desire for non-idol music unless it's rap or ballads. It's pretty disappointing - I've never seen a country with charts so dominated by only one genre.

That, and the few people that are non-idols and big are generally older singers who, as an international fan, you wouldn't be able to find much info on either.

The music shows used to have more non-idols on them (you'd get a lot of trot especially) but with the influx of idol popularity, they're showing up less and less.

It's pop, that's what pop does. Pop isn't there for the instrumentals.

You can still be a great singer, even if you do pop. That was what I was trying to say, a lot of singers in K-Pop groups are pretty fucking good, compared to J-Pop, and are actually listenable to live.

Groups like 2NE1 have a completely different sound than 2007/08 SNSD. There are many others like SECRET, Wonder Girls etc. that sound very different too. Even SNSD nowadays is... uh... "darker" than during their Oh!s and GEEs.

Saying all sound like GEE is just wrong.

Darker doesn't make a difference. A ton of the songs still have some sort of repeating riff that serves to annoy people like aine. Deep down, I think it's awful too - I only consider it my guilty pleasure.

And I don't think aine cares about AOA either. 2NE1 vocally sound very annoying to me too and that's coming from someone with a lot more tolerance than aine.
