A few people just did the same to me in the A Pink thread I posted, why not throw a fit at them? I'm just expressing my opinion because I recently explored a lot of newer K-pop artists the other day and I'm updating my findings and trying to compare to what other people have said. Maybe people can respond and say something like "her non-popular songs are better" or something else that might help me to understand why she's so popular?

I keep seeing things about this girl all over the internet about how she's the next big thing in Korea and she writes some of her own songs and etc. etc. and I feel like I'm missing something, and maybe someone here could tell me what it is, if anything. Instead, they take it as a personal attack instead of actually trying to discuss.

I think IU has quite a nice personality. She seems pretty guarded, though, and isn't nearly as over-the-top as other idols. Honestly, I find that refreshing. She's not a fantastic dancer and she knows it. She strikes me as someone who's genuinely focused on singing well and improving.
I liked Good Day and Marshmallow as far as her singles go, and didn't necessarily love others. If you want less popular songs, my favorite IU song is Cruel Fairy Tale.

I don't see why you'd think I took it as personal to begin with. If saying "I don't understand this" qualifies as throwing a fit, I don't know up from down anymore.

Unfortunately, around this place, that's all I can really think of when people have a backlash to some negative opinion I posted to any degree, since, as I said, I've been dealing with it for the greater part of almost 9 years, always getting that response to me posting a negative opinion of something. You're right, though, what you said wasn't really directed at me. I just want to add, idols who come from a group tend to be more over the top with their personality then a soloist. That's just something I've found in Korean artists and Japanese. In order to stand out they need to show they have a personality where as a soloist can get by pretty much on their looks and singing abilities. (At least in Korea)
I like IU because of her voice, some of her songs are meh, but a few of them are good. I like the fanciful quality of her newer stuff and I just think she has a soothing voice. It's good to listen to when you've had a stressful day.

Right from the start, people have been eager to complain about IU's songs and management, claiming that she's under-promoted because she's not on a big label, or that her songs don't suit her. I saw a lot of complaints when marshmallow came out that it didn't suit her, that it was too cutesy and didn't show off her voice properly.
I hope that the fucking morons who complained about her not being promoted properly shut the fuck up nowadays, since everything she brings out is a #1 hit, but who knows. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... /laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':lol:' />
Her character is very gentle, so that may come off as boring to some people, I guess? I think it's pretty genuine though, and she can be really bouncy and silly as well at times. As for her songs, I do like her stuff fine, but I have to agree with Steve that a lot of it is kinda bland, so if you don't already have a disposition towards her, I don't think it'll win you over very much. I noticed her initially before she debuted, doing her covers of SNSD and Super Junior songs and stuff like that. I like her most for live performances in general, her studio stuff is okay but it's certainly not the first thing I'd show people if I wanted to make new fans. But my favorite stuff of hers has always been covers, so yeah that says something about the original material she's getting.

IU's going to be releasing a new album on May 11th, just before her 20th birthday.
One of the songs has already been released, Peach which was composed by IU herself. It's been awhile since she's released something she's done. It's very soothing to listen too.
