Diva-Bot!

Post by Shoujo Q »

Japan's going to have robots running around doing everything and it'll be their fault the world gets destroyed, I can see it now.

Anyway, news from TokyoHive.

Two weeks ago at the CEATEC Japan 2010 Expo, Masataka Goto, head researcher at AIST (Advanced Industrial Science and Technology) unveiled a new humanoid robot, the HRP-4 a.k.a. “Diva-bot”. Diva-bot has “learned” to sing by imitating human singers, giving it a natural sound and expressions.

The technology that Goto used is called VocalListener. It observes the action and synthesizes the exact notes of a song with a voice synthesizer made by Yamaha. It’s the same software that the popular game idol Hatsune Miku is known for, Vocaloid.

The presentation (video below), shows Diva-bot as the lead singer of a group, singing to “Deatta koro no youni”, a song made popular in 1997 by Every Little Thing. The video was so popular it was shown on ABCNews in Southern California. Diva-bot’s vocal and dance concept was done by ex-TRF member, SAM.

Video 1 (Diva-bot singing Deatta koro no youni)

Video 2 (Diva-bot without her clothes on, background info on the robot.)

It's the future of Japan! Idols that don't age or change at all. xD They just need to get around the fugly creep factor first.

Those hands are too HUGE.

Those eyes are too dark.

Knowing the japanese market, I can totally see robot lolicon shit turning up in a few years...

Japan - The Land at the Bottom of the Uncanny Valley. Damn, I'm copyrighting this.

Can't say I'm overly enthralled by a robot moving around about as gracefully as a 70 year old granny (even if pretty fit for a granny), but I am somewhat excited to see how far we'll get by the end of our lives. Because honestly, I think we're slowly getting there.

Incidentally, I have stumbled upon a Hatsune Miku live video just yesterday:

That is creepy as fuck. And it's got Nono eyes. ;-;

But gotta love this comment: "I'm pretty sure that being a backup dancer for a robot is a surefire sign that somewhere your life took a wrong turn."
