Invincible Youth to end its first season December 24

Post by surasshu »

I thought I'd post this bit of news since we have some fans of the show thanks to fpd's awesome uploads before. It's easily on par with Hello Morning (at its prime) as one of my favorite idol-related things I've ever seen. For those that missed it, the concept is basically: take 7 girls from different girl groups, and send them to a farm community and make them do real farm work for a day a week. Members include SNSD's Sunny and Yuri, Kara's Hara Goo, and Brown Eyed Girls' Narsha. It's hosted by Kim Shin Young, Noh Joo Hyun and Kim Tae Woo.

Anyway, the announcement was made that the show would end its first season:
On the 8th of December 2010, it was revealed that Invincible Youth has wrapped up recording of their finale episode. They have filmed over one year, starting in October 2009.KBS 2TV’s variety program, “Invincible Youth,” will be touching viewers’ hearts once more with a second season.

Kim Sang Ho PD revealed to Star News on December 10th, “The show is not going to be discontinued. Viewers can take it as an end to season one. We will soon be seeing our viewers once again next year through a second season.”

The show first aired in October as a unique program that had various girl groups working on farms; currently, the final episode for ’season one’ is waiting to air on December 24th.

Meanwhile, the producer continued, “We’re not discontinuing the show because of low viewer ratings. There’s been a lot of conflicting schedules due to girl groups like KARA expanding their activities overseas. It was difficult to take out some of the fixed members, so we decided to end season one for now. There’s a lot of trust being placed on the worth of the ‘Invincible Youth’ brand. After discussions with other producers, everyone agreed to end season one and go ahead with season two next year.” -Allkpop

Let's use this topic to discuss the show, its highlights, enjoy clips and gifs and whatever. Also, maybe we can speculate on who will be picked for season two, if there even will be one. Is anyone around here still watching it? I am guessing they intend to replace the whole group, or perhaps keep one or two original members at most. With that in mind, I'd really like to see Sooyoung from SNSD appear in season two, and also Sulli from f(x). They were both awesome when they had guest spots (Sooyoung more than Sulli, but I just like Sulli, so sue me <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... /laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> ).

And finally, a clip made of awesome! Sunny and Hyuna vs. Yuri and Taewu playing a sort of natural version of Jenga. Definitely one of my favorite scenes, although there are many!

Narsha doing Bo Peep? Yes.

Sunny was slapping some butt around 03:05 in that video. haha

I think I really need to watch more of this show now.

I think I stopped because of the overload of "oppa" etc. in the subs.

Yeah that's a bit unfortunate with SoShiSubs, though you do get a much better quality video to compensate. KBS-World's subs try to avoid all that "oppa" and "maknae" stuff, instead translating it as best they can. They're definitely more watchable, they're more of an official translation, I guess, like you'd find on a DVD. Of course, once Sunny and Yuri left, the folks at SoShiSubs immediately dropped the show like it was a bag of coals, so then you have to switch to KBS-World if you want to or not. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... /laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> That just pisses me off in itself, it's just so shallow. They're not interested in seeing a fun show, or getting to know anybody, they're just leering at Sunny and Yuri. It's just sad.

The TV station puts out english subtitles for their own shows ???

Wow, I am impressed. Now if just the japanese variety shows like Gaki no Tsukai would be subbed officially...

EDIT:

In case anybody is interested here is the online streaming site:

http://www.kbsworldi.com/points.aspx

One episode costs 10 points and you can buy 120 points for 10 USD. (or buy more points and you pay less)

I wonder if you "keep" the episodes or if it is just a one-time watch, since it seems old episodes (before #40) got deleted.

Oh snap, they did? <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... #>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> I did watch them with the Soshisubs but I thought they would all be on there. There may be download places somewhere. I do love KBS world though, they're pretty awesome and have an awesome website.

Yesss, I love when they do this. 2NE1's official youtube channel put up subtitled version of all the 2NE1TV episodes. It ruled.

I remember reading that there definitely would be a season 2, and that they were potentially going to add male idols.

Edit: Found it.

Also, man... "season 1"? I'm guessing Korea doesn't divide up seasons like American television does? <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... /laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Here in Europe the starting and ending of shows is all over the place.

There's no special season for things to start or end. I prefer this system, since this way you see new shows all the time. (though none of them are worth watching anyway)

Shows with moderators (quiz shows etc.) usually just have a summer break and are constantly on for the other 10 or so months of the year.

I'm not sure how Japan does, but I guess since they're so heavily influenced from the US media, I guess they have a similar "seasonal" system. I know they do with anime.

I didn't think they would label it with seasons at all, since they already shuffled out some members and replaced them. I figured it'd be like 1 Night 2 Days and have like 5000 episodes, just one giant string of stuff going endlessly. But if they're going to replace all the members, it does kinda make sense to call that a season finale I suppose.

I certainly wouldn't mind male idols to join, I find the interaction between male and female idols to be incredibly refreshing in Kpop, especially after the years of oppression they had in that regard. Some older male idol talked about what they weren't allowed to do, like visibly enjoy a female group's performance, so it's kinda shocking (and of course, Japan is as bad or even worse). But now they're really open and form cute semi-couples, and it's really enjoyable to watch I think.

Would love to see some B2ST guys, or maybe someone from Super Junior! Though, the girls' interaction and skinship might not be quite the same if there's guys around. Then again, this might make things interesting and different. WELL ANYWAY!!

Depending on the streaming format, Freecorder will save streamed video to you hard drive. It's not the best quality, though.
