Japanese women hate Sayumi
Last year, “Shukan Bunshun” has been holding an annual ranking of ”female celebrities most hated by japanese women”. The magazine released poll's results on its November 11th issue, and as you can see, a Morning Musume member ranked in the top 10
1. Tani Ryoko
2. Sawajiri Erika
3. Wada Akiko
4. Hisamoto Masami
5. Renho
6. Koda Kumi
7. Hosoki Kazuko
8. Isono Kiri
9. Michishige Sayumi (Morning Musume)
10. Fujiwara Norika
I have to say I am not surprised. Sayu is the kind of girl/character that most of girls usually dislike. Or maybe they're just envious of her success and her beauty. And of her nasal voice

Re: Japanese women hate Sayumi
I've heard of five of them. Now I have to look up the other five. I bet I'll like them, too.
Why would they hate Koda Kumi? I thought women loved her over there.

Not only girls hate her.
I think she had an even "better" position in 2009.

Thanks for this info - very interesting! I didn't know who Tani Ryoko is and looked at the original source. Apparently, women "hate" her because she's too perfect. Basically the number one reason was that people think it is impossible for this 35 year old professional Judo athlete to be a good wife to her pro baseball husband, a good wife to her two kids, and a politician. She must be half-assing everything, they say. I can extrapolate that people are similarly jealous of Sayumi's talent for being adorable and everywhere at once in the media, despite "half assing" her supposed job as a singer Go Sayumi!
I don't know a lot of these the other women. Usually these "hate" polls are full of any talent that was once linked to a Johnny's member (hence, the proliferation of Keiko Kitagawa, MAsami Nagasawa, etc as top hated celebs). It seems these celebrities are from a wider entertainment world than just whatever teenagers consume. Though, I must say I also hate Hisamoto Masami. I didn't know the name but once I saw her picture I remembered "oh god that shrill, gross, skeletor comedienne."

Re: Japanese women hate Sayumi
It just proves how awesome Sayu is at her job. When she's on TV shows she's "in character" as a bitchy narcissist, but anyone who keeps up with her blog (or listens to Eri) knows she's a complete sweetheart with a bit of an inferiority complex. She stressed about the first couple of times she got onto lists like this, but now she's all "Haters gonna hate."

No surprise~ She makes them all the time.
She's #2 here (And Nono is #5)
And #5 here (Nono is #8)
Interesting too Aibon was on a show around the same time as one of the results and they wanted commentary from her one of the results.
I think she managed to evade mentioning Nono, but with Sayu I think I remember her saying something like "She's cute, but I am cuter."
To be totally honest, though Sayumi was my least favorite H!P member through and through since she joined.
But after she opened her blog and revealed her true persona I started to admire her.
This was totally naive of me, but I didn't realize she had an 'idol person'. She was just so good at playing the douche of the group I just assumed that was her true character. It was really hard for me to tell if she meant it or not. However, her blog introduced me to how sweet, funny and charming she actually is, and she's not the little egotistical snake she always plays.
Something I never saw coming was that she some how managed to punch and kick her way up in my ranks 7 years later. If she never opened her blog I would have never gotten a taste for her. Now she's one of my favorites. (Just took me a while to realize how awesome she is.)

It looks like from your cap, she's saying "When is she going to grow up?" about Tsuji. I seem to remember Trike flipping out about this a while ago...

Same here. I didn't like Sayu much at all, but once I learned more about her, she became one of my favorites in MM.
It's like that episode of Mujack with Takamina from AKB, and the MM girls were saying that Sayu is actually really nice, and Sayu said, "Stop! You're ruining my image! How am I going to go on TV shows like this? No everyone it's not true, I am actually a black-hearted girl!" or something like that.

Kago is pretty. Sometimes I forget this.
I'm surprised she hasn't been on these hated-lists but I guess she just isn't that much in the public eye. All publicity is good publicity so hooray for Sayumi.

Damn, don't they make these lists, like, once a month? I feel like this keeps coming around. I'm also always surprised when Wada Akiko pops up. Isn't she kind of an announcer/news person (asides from her music stuff)?

"When women turn 35, their amniotic fluid goes rotten, so I'd like them to have a child by 35"
Oopsies.
Lol. From the media articles I read, this caused a huge controversy and she was put on hiatus for a few months. Mind you, she said this nearly 3 years ago and she's still getting flack from that comment today.

That was her "More popular than Jesus." Seriously. She was at the height of her career before she spewed her venomous demon-spawn ideals over the short-wave. Her 7 year anniversary get her a dome tour and huge finale with Los Homos Shinki and Blue Man Group. Her recent 10 year anniversary went largely unnoticed.

re: koda kumi
I just remembered. The much beloved Princess Masako got pregnant (after a ton of media attention and a terrible miscarriage) at age 37-38. This was a few years before the incident but it got so much crazy coverage that it can't have been forgotten by the general population. I'm sure no one takes it well when an idiot pop star suggests their royal family conceived a child in her "rotten" insides.

Re: Japanese women hate Sayumi
Well, the goal of her character is to be hated so I say "god job" to her. She took the role of the vilain early on variety shows and that's why she is very active and show.
I think that's the best compliment for her, go Sayu!!
