Well, it's certainly not a slow song.
Doesn't seem too boring, but I'll pass final judgement until I've heard the full song 2~3 times and see the PV.

Re: Maji desu ka SUKA! : The Thread!
Seems like a good peppy song so far, now I want to hear the rest...
Re: Maji desu ka SUKA! : The Thread!
I like the preview so far. I am currently rejoicing that a violin is nowhere to be found.
Sounds like the other girls took over after the 9th gen intro. I wonder if they sing anywhere else in the song.

Can someone tell me why Erina is at all interesting? Is it the underdog thing? The girl simply comes up last in just about every category I can think of, except for dancing. And next to Riho, Mizuki, and all the older girls, that doesn't amount for much. :\

Move over Namida ga Tomaranai Houkago your reign as the worst ever MM single is well and truly over, I've listened to this several times and a longer version can only be worse. It's like a throwaway track written in 5 minutes to fill in an album. I really don't think I will be buying this and I have retrospectively bought every single so far.
I so wanted this not to be the end of my love of MM but the new kiddies bore me, I can't remember which is which and this is not just the worst single MM have made it's one of the worst tracks they have ever made.
Whilst Buono! still exist there is still something to keep me interested in H!P and maybe MM will stage a comeback in my affections.
OK, tell me I'm wrong.

Violins are ok. Really, any instrument is ok.
But Violins usually indicated it's a ballad of some sort and asian pop-ballads are shit. Fucking ballads, man.

I'm here to tell you that you're right!
If you think this is the worst Morning Musume single ever, that all the new members suck, and that there isn't anyone good/interesting/fun/whatever left in the group - then you're right! Because all of those things are your opinions and you will never be 'wrong' about your taste in music or idols. It would be absurd for anyone to tell you otherwise. The fact that I kind of enjoy this song and love every single 9th gen member isn't going to make you like those things any better, after all.
At the same time, having read posts from other members that were pretty much verbatim to this one in every MM thread in the last several years, I suggest you do yourself a favor - if the group no longer interests you, stop following them! I have never understood why people seem to torture themselves by watching all the latest video clips and listening to the new songs of a group they apparently no longer enjoy. It seems very frustrating and stressful.

My opinion, it's cute and I hope the PV doesn't suck. But I'm shooting for at least two outfits and something that doesn't involve a football field, a trampoline or a room with laser beams. But all those things could work, maybe together but not separately. :D
I love the 9th gen for their variety in personalities and they will all grow and that's the best part of being a fan of H!P, seeing the members grow visually, vocally, and professionaly. If this was 2001 and the 5th gen just came in. Would you think that Takahashi and Niigaki would still be around 10 years later? Hell I bet half the people thought Takahashi would be the first to go, have a solo career like Maki and disappear from Morning Musume within a few years of joining. No one thought much of Risa, but uhm... yeah I still don't like her I can't find anything good to say. Sorry. But you get the point.
TnB is right, we're all entitled to our own opinions and that was mine. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... lesson.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':lesson:' />

This happens almost every time, I hear phantom members. In this case, Eri.
"Kotoshi no BOOM wa nan desu ka?"
(the girl before Risa's big manly "Ki ni natte shouganai")
Anyway, the old link is dead. Here's a new one
I think it's a bit significant that none of the CD covers emphasize the title. I bet it was in case the online wota disapproved, and it could easily become the B-side without major cover edits.

Because I've followed MM for 6 years now and I don't want to give up on them. I was disappointed when Eri and JunLin graduated because I really liked all 3 of them but at the same time, if you follow MM, you have to be prepared for graduations. I've seen Rika, Makoto, Konkon, Yossie and Kusumi leave before and I was sad to see the first 4 go but it made no difference to my love for MM.
I have no problem with the 4 new girls from a personality point of view, they seem cute and personable but their voices are awful and studio manipulation ain't going to be worth shit when they're live unless we are going to have all of them miming a la Kusumi.
Saya said the single sounds like a S-mileage single which I agree with but if I wanted to listen to a S-mileage type single I would listen to S-mileage not MM.
I was hoping that with the 4 new members there might be some sort of interesting rebrand for MM not a generic Tsunku/H!P lightweight filler.
So I will keep checking everything MM does in the hope that this single is a momentary abberation and the four newcomers will grow into valuable and memorable additions to MM's history and that I was wrong in my assessment and MM will become bigger, better and more popular than they have been for a long time.

Morning Musume's discography & H!P have had songs like this, way before S/mileage existed. That's the thing about Morning Musume, they never have one signature sound. It's whatever Tsunku is feeling at the moment, sometimes this is a good thing, sometime not. They might have trends, but those typically haven't extended past 6 singles. The 45 singles have a huge range, and it extends even more once you include coupled with & album tracks. Then once in a while, Tsunku surprises us again something new.
What makes it Morning Musume, not S/mileage or any other group is the variety of vocals and age range, (and the unending battle to be heard over whatever trinity of front girls) Morning Musume like a patchwork quilt. Some fabric is pretty, some pieces are much older, some don't belong, some are worn and are falling apart, things happen and good pieces are lost, then random new patches get added.

Quite a few members have started out with less than stellar voices and came a long way, even if some of them haven't. Rika is an example of someone who never exactly became a talented singer, but she was still enjoyable to listen to. Kago and Tsuji got a lot better over time as well, as did a few 5th gen members. Eri is someone else who I personally feel was loads better when she graduated than when she started.
Even Koharu wasn't all that bad when she joined. If anything she got worse over time and I think she's the only member to really do this.

Yes but this isn't new, it's the sort of thing that S-mileage, Athena & Robikerottsu, Guardians 4, Lilpri etc. would do. I expect much better from the flagship H!P group not a retread of past minor successes.

Agreed, but as I've remarked before they have never had this polarisation in regards to age before and they have never had five poor singers, two OK singers and one good singer before especially when the odds are in favour of the good singer graduating soon. In the past the good has always compensated for the poor and in many cases the poor vocalists made up for it in strength of personality e.g. Rika, Konkon and Sayumi but with no mainstream TV coverage as they used to have with Hello! Morning the personalities don't get much of an airing except to the hardcore fan/wota and you are preaching to the converted there.

See above, in each case the girls you mention had a chance to develop because they were part of a group that had sufficient talent to mask their shortcomings. This isn't the case now.
I know nobody understands the convoluted workings of Tsunku's mind but this new strategy really does seem unusually perverse, "Let me find four girls of mediocre talent and then write a song that has no MM type feel to it, that should bring in a whole new slew of fans and really delight the hardcore ones who have stuck with the group as they have slowly declined in popularity."

Then once in a while, Tsunku surprises us again something new.
Yes but this isn't new, it's the sort of thing that S-mileage, Athena & Robikerottsu, Guardians 4, Lilpri etc. would do. I expect much better from the flagship H!P group not a retread of past minor successes.

Re: Maji desu ka SUKA! : The Thread!
I don't see how it doesn't have a Morning Musume feel to it. Like others have said, they've had several different sounds throughout the years.

I had to split, it was talking more about the song which needed it's own thread and not about the new girls anymore.
I have no idea how you can figure out a whole song from 1:25 but whatever. Talk about it here and not in the new member gush thread. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... #>/wub.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

I really like this song. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... >/grin.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> Finally a Genki MM song! I was singing it all the way to the grocery store. I already have expectations for the PV, which is bad though...

Unless the remaing 2:30 sounds like the Brandenburg Concertos or Stairway to Heaven I think I have the general gist, nay thrust of Tsunku's composition <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... stling.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':whistling:' />.

As I said that's what I like about MM but they have always had a distinctive feel to everything. I just think Tsunku has written something that, to me, is suitable for a group with all young members.
I am prepared to admit I seem to be the only one here who isn't excited or impressed by the new girls and so far I seem to be the only one who doesn't like what we've heard of the single. Oh well, I always like to think I tread the road less travelled <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... >/rofl.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />.

Morning Musume's discography & H!P have had songs like this, way before S/mileage existed.
Really? I can't bring anything this banal to mind and yes that is a subjective comment but what else is there when you are expressing a personal opinion.
I was speaking purely about the song style and feel without the quality as a factor in my comparison. I've heard most people compare it to Koko ni Iruzee & Be All Right, I would add a dash of Chokotto Love. All of these songs are from 2003 or earlier.
Basically, my point was no other group can really copy "S/mileage sound" because S/mileage songs are a big combination of past styles in H!P.
Anyway, most things sound better in full quality, and sometimes things will grow on you. Sure, it's not the greatest thing ever, and maybe not what would be expected the 1st single after someone popular leaves + new girls join, but if the single isn't good, there's always the B-side. People probably said similar things about Koko ni Iruzee when it was released. There were way more listeners back then, and Maki had just left. It might have gotten worse reactions overall actually.
I admit, it seems like a B-side, but I also think it sounds like a fun song to sing and it definitely has energy. I really like the drum parts that are at the end of each line.

Re: Maji desu ka SUKA! : The Thread!
I love this. I need energy. I fucking love Risa's deep voice in this. God she is going to rule as Leader. Even though I will miss Ai-chan. I love ALL the 9th gen (especially Erina <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... #>/wub.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />) I really hope they have fun with the PV, something like Koko ni Iruzee or Hyokkori Hyoutan-jima, or even slick like Roman My Dear Boy would be sweet.
H!P has been kicking ass all over the place lately. My interest has come back in spades.

This song is generic Mickey Mouse sh*t. Terrible.
Idol pop isn't just about the music. The last single I liked was Onna ni Sachi Are, but I still like the group enough to check on the forum.
