The newspaper Sports Hochi reports that AKB48 producer Akimoto Yasushi has personally confirmed that he is working on creating a “Taiwan48″ group. Akimoto talked about the project during an appearance on the BS Asahi program “Ima Sekai wa” on Sunday night.
Akimoto has previously mentioned that he plans to spread his idol group formula to other parts of the world, and he has received offers from several countries. including Singapore, Thailand, China, Hong Kong, and Russia.
The Taiwan48 group (which may end up having a different name) is already in development with the cooperation of a local television network. The group’s launch is targeted for this summer. Akimoto stated that like AKB48, Taiwan48 will have its own theater where it can hold daily performances.
The Asahi Shimbun newspaper first mentioned the plans for a Taiwanese version of the group in an article in early February, which mentioned that the group’s creation process will be shown through a new television show that starts this summer.
Get ready for Taiwan48! Then China48, Singapore48, Hong Kong48 and Russia48!
Soon to be followed by Mexico48, Brazil48, Paris48, and London48.
