Lady Gaga

I don't want to bump the year+ old Gaga threads for this:

This interview is over an hour but it is worth it.

Thanks for posting this! She is awesome, yes. I'm a big fan, and have a lot of respect for her as an artist. I've only watched the first 25 minutes, but her answers so far largely reveal why.

I eagerly anticipate the new album.

Yep. I don't like her anymore.

Either that, or she's trolling the shit out of us.

I love Lady Gaga. Born This Way is shit, but I'm optimistic about the rest of the new album.

I haven't seen the interview yet, but Black is handling this pretty well. Instead of throwing around copyright claims and trying to squash all the hate, she's been taking the whole situation in stride. Girl was on GMA having the interviewer tell her a dozen ways to Sunday how the internet called her out as a terri-bad singer and she just smiled, haters-gonna-hate'd, and kept going. She's still a shit singer and this whole thing is a major fluke, but at least she's not crying about it.

Thanks for posting this eri, it was interesting to see her in an interview setting. I watched the whole thing! Nerds are awkward, and apparently Google nerds who are Gaga fans are not much better. It was the first time I've seen her actually talk like a normal person to other human beings, so it was kind of reassuring that she isn't a total space alien. I'm not really digging Born This Way, even though it's a good message. Hopefully Judas will be better.

Haru: she said in the interview that she hadn't heard of Rebecca Black before (and subsequently her terriblesong) and was commenting that she was a genius just for using the internet/social media/what the fuck other buzzword people are using these days so apparently effectively.

Oh.

Media was saying she was just calling her a genius. Not giving a reason.

I will agree that Rebecca and her management was smart, but that song is just horrible.

Yeah this was a really fun interview and she just came off as quite natural and like she'd be a fun person to hang out with - no ego, no pretentiousness etc.

Born This Way sounds identical to Madonna's Express Yourself. But, I really like Gaga even if (ironically) I don't necessarily like her music.

I just finished watching the video. Pretty cool, though it got kooky at the end.

And you'd think with billions of dollars in the bank, Google could afford to hire someone who can interview worth a damn.

(ugly-bump!)

I don't know if you all saw this, but Gaga released the covers for the Born This Way album.

Also, Judas leaked 4 days early. Get it? [VEVO via YT]

It's got really great potential until the chorus which just reeks of generic-80s. Still better than Born This Waty

Two gaga songs I dislike in a row. That "Juda gaga juda a a a a however it goes" is freaking ANNOYING. I am going to cry when it gets regular rotation on the radio.

So she went from Express Yourself to Like a Prayer amirite

The covers scare the crap out of me. And I haven't liked either of her two new songs... though Judas is less bad than Born This Way. Eh... I'm liking Lady Gaga less and less these days; not only for bleh music, but she has become so full of herself it's really annoying me.

I like Born this Way for the message it gives. The Country version is sorta okay because it strips away a lot of the filler but other then that I need to agree. I detest Judas. It's just all sorts of bleh. There better be a gem on that album somewhere.

I'm excited for Scheisse, but that video is a remix and if it isn't on the limited edition, I will be done with The Goga. I also noticed through my tenth listen to Judas that the rap of Judas is the same rhythm as the one for Scheisse. But yeah, get it together, Goga.

Same here. It wouldn't be so bad if it weren't for the fact that she's clearly trying too hard to be "controversial" now. "Born This Way", aside form the nearly complete heist of Madonna, was so obviously a calculated attempt to make herself a Gay Icon, and I was really happy to see the larger gay community see it for what it was and reject it. It's as pathetic as trying to give yourself a nickname. What's funny is that she was likely on an upward trajectory to become a Gay Icon organically, but she just couldn't wait for it to materialize naturally. She used to be a fun, quirky oddball who wrote great pop songs. Now she's just boring.

And now this (from Weird Al Yankovic):

"I was really hoping that this blog entry would be all about me announcing the release date of my new album.

Sadly, it’s not.

In a metaphorical nutshell, here’s what happened.

I wrote and recorded what I thought was going to be the first single off of my new album: a parody of “Born This Way” by Lady Gaga called “Perform This Way.” But after hearing it, Lady Gaga decided not to give me permission to release the song, so… it won’t be coming out commercially anytime in the near future. Sorry. "

Whatever, chick. You're so fucking awesome that you can't even take a little Weird Al satire? The ultimate confirmation that you have achieved super-stardom? Your skin is really that fucking thin? Fuck you, Lady Gaga.

She basically exists because of the gay community. No one else really gave a shit about her at first.

Oh yeah, the Weird Al parody is hilarious. It sort of defends her too.

In all seriousness, I'm pretty disappointed with her lately too. I do actually like Judas. Somehow it grew on me after the first few listens. But Born This Way was awful, and it's a shame that she took a positive message and deflated it by copying another song and being cheesy about it. I liked her better when she just demonstrated the message of Born This Way by being herself and not taking any shit about it. Good messages often get cheapened by over-saturation.

I'd say she's always been that and nothing more.

Just a mindless show-off.

Every song sounds exactly the same. The only song that I liked was Pokerface, any other song I've ever heard of her just seemed like a remix of that song.

WAIT A SECOND, TURNS OUT THAT SHE DID APPROVE OF THE PARODY...

You'll have to hate for the other reasons now.

Update: Weird Al got trolled by her management

Summary:

Gaga’s manager has now admitted that he never forwarded my parody to Gaga – she had no idea at all. Even though we assumed that Gaga herself was the one making the decision (because, well, that’s what we were TOLD), he apparently made the decision completely on his own.

He’s sorry. And Gaga loves the song.

Smart move by Gaga to green-light this song. I'm skeptical of the whole "it's my manager's fault" defense, but whatever. She saved herself from becoming the new Barefoot Contessa.

I was really a fan of Gaga at first, but I have to say my affections have cooled. Some of her stuff just rubs me the wrong way. For lack of a better explanation, I feel like she's resorting to kind of cheap tricks to be controversial. I have always been kind of amused by her "screw the man by being the man" idea of fame, though, and I still am. It doesn't any make sense to me, but it amuses me.

She's a very talented singer and songwriter, however. I will forever love her songs on piano. I also liked the Google interview a lot, though Sanch is right... it got weird at the end. Also, Google NEVER has good interviewers. Conan O'Brien tore his poor host to bits.

Oh GOD, I can't believe this fabricated controversy has been dragged in here. How fickle people are and how easy it is to tear down people who are "too popular."

Aside from the possibility that she indeed never heard the song, why does she have to let Weird Al Yankovich parody her song? Why does she have to? I'm very confused at this common complaint I'm reading from this secret legion of Weird Al Yankovich fans. Yeah Gaga takes herself very seriously --pretty unusual these days, when it is passe to care about anything or act like you're trying -- but so what? So the complaint is, how dare a wildly successful lyricist, composer, and performer praise herself or act "weird"? I'm not particularly some Gaga fan, but these are all empty attacks that just roll with the really predictable celebrity backlash.

And for the ten billionth time that people start freaking out that she's just a washed up plagiarist:

I used to like Gaga, not before she was popular, but before she started going to pains to be "outrageous". Her "outrageous" behavior just seemed natural before the meat dress, and from that point on, she just decided that she had to top whatever previous "outrageous" stunt she pulled. To me, it comes off as simply calculated to shock instead of earnestly eccentric. But as they say, your mileage may vary. But I suppose that's just what an anti-pop hipster would say, now isn't it?

Jpope, I don't disagree with people's opinions. If someone just doesn't like her music, then they are entitled to that. I don't like half of her songs either. Did I make a peep when almost everyone noted how boring her last 2 singles were?

What I can't stand are opinions trying to mask themselves as facts or random details that do not add up to a coherent claim. It just seems like outrage for the sake of outrage, haters looking for reasons to hate. It is boring and cliche and everyone likes to hop on board because it is fun to hate on easy targets. This is why I can't understand this manufactured outrage over Weird Al. Yes the guy has been around forever, but who is really following this? Are his fans so upset that Gaga has stymied his great creativity? No! It is just haters looking for any damn reason to hate and this nonsense is all over my internet: reddit, Gawker, etc all over! The chorus of "OMG how dare Gaga deny Weird Al! I knew she sucked!" Makes no sense to me.

Btw, isn't it convenient that Weird Al has a new album out that he needed to promote?
