Let's all calm down, hug it out, and laugh as Lady Gaga falls down from, like, 5 different angles. Haters, critics, fans, and neutrals can all laugh at the classic element of slapstick, right?

C/p a point I read elsewhere online:

I like both of these artists, but this was off-putting. The bottom line is: He didn't need a blessing and she did him no injustice (even before the manager statement Al chose to take a business risk and it didn't pay off) so the whole post was just tabloid fodder with a dash of public bullying.

As a point of info, reps. are typically required to forward all offers to their clients. This wasn't an offer, though, and because she's on an intense tour while launching an album, I can believe her manager didn't forward it. Especially given the scope of non-offer and offer inquiries she probably receives and that at some points some artists tell their teams to not send them this kind of thing for a certain period so that they can focus on performing (many actors do this while they're filming a movie, etc). Iffy judgement on management's part however given that a Weird Al parody is a high profile/fun project and something that most artists would probably like to have the opportunity of knowing about.

Another point of info, scrolled through her Twitter feed and Lady Gaga links and elevates parodies of herself/music online frequently.

Wow. It's almost like you disagree with other people's opinions, which is cool, although the irony of your using the term "bitch cave" in your bitch fest of a post is delicious.
Jpope, I don't disagree with people's opinions. If someone just doesn't like her music, then they are entitled to that. I don't like half of her songs either. Did I make a peep when almost everyone noted how boring her last 2 singles were?

What I can't stand are opinions trying to mask themselves as facts or random details that do not add up to a coherent claim. It just seems like outrage for the sake of outrage, haters looking for reasons to hate. It is boring and cliche and everyone likes to hop on board because it is fun to hate on easy targets. This is why I can't understand this manufactured outrage over Weird Al. Yes the guy has been around forever, but who is really following this? Are his fans so upset that Gaga has stymied his great creativity? No! It is just haters looking for any damn reason to hate and this nonsense is all over my internet: reddit, Gawker, etc all over! The chorus of "OMG how dare Gaga deny Weird Al! I knew she sucked!" Makes no sense to me.

Btw, isn't it convenient that Weird Al has a new album out that he needed to promote?
I think it has to do with the fact that most people just find the lack of a sense of humor distasteful in general, and find it extremely distasteful in pop musicians. Weird Al has managed to occupy a very rare position of being almost universally loved, in part because aside from being humorous, his parodies are almost always lighthearted and good-natured. Whether you think it's fair or not, it is reality, and it's why the idea of someone refusing to allow their material to be parodied by Weird Al comes off as stuffy, egotistical and thin-skinned. "Why does she have to?" you ask. She doesn't, but to most people, she looks like a dick if she doesn't, in much the same way that Barefoot Contessa looks like a dick when she won't let a cancer-stricken child spend an hour cooking with her.

And in the end, Weird Al doesn't have to ask. His parodies fall easily under the "fair use" rules of the U.S. Copyright laws. He asks because he's respectful.

I love Weird Al, fiercely. He doesn't need the permission of the artists, as was stated, but he seems to value working on good terms with them. While it wasn't the smartest thing to publicize, he's never been completely silent about who does or doesn't accept his parodies, and it's up to his fans to over-react or not. Not to mention he might have just been proud of the parody and eager to share it. Adding an explanation of why it won't be seen again seems reasonable. I'm pretty sure he didn't think his fan horde would outnumber Gaga's, and I am pretty surprised it ever became a big deal at all.

Much like the Barefoot Contessa scenario, it's ridiculous to blame Gaga as a person. Blame Gaga as in her staff. People seriously don't realize how uninformed celebrities are about their own activities, and I totally buy that it never got to her. Gaga has a pretty good sense of humor about herself, generally.

That's where the similarities end for me, though. Comparing approving a Weird Al song to giving a child with cancer his wish is not a leap I can make.

And as Eri said, she has full right to say no. That doesn't shed any bad light on her, to me, as she could have had any variety of reasons to do so (just like Weird Al had any variety of reasons to post about it).

Also, eri, I had a hard time not having an outburst over the brief turn the fitness thread made, so I somehow giggled at you saying the thread was ruined. I know, man, I know.

The only thing that is worthy of being pissed off about is that he asked whomever was acting as her several times and it culminated into "No, I need to hear the recording". So he records the song (that's expensive studio time and all the pains of actually recording a song well) and then she says no. Why did you make him record it only to say no? That's rude.

I agree with Jpope, she is trying too hard to be Gaga right now. I know she has to constantly be "pushing the edge" especially when the female pop brigade is miming her image and sound but it's too too much. All it makes me do is roll my eyes instead of jumping on the hype train. Image is one thing, but when her music is bad too especially when she's such a great writer, it is ugggghhhhh. I wish I could articulate it better, UGGGGHHHH is how I feel about Gaga right now.

She needs to slow down and let songs simmer. Born this way and Judas were horrible, and I'm not optimistic for the rest of her album. So instead of sophomore slump she has a junior flop hahaha

Plum, I still blame Marina Sousa as a person.

Ok, so I'm about to defend two people here, but the second is being defended from the first.

Eri's post wasn't really a bitchfest, she was just pointing out the B.S (the BS on the BBS and on the rest of the internet) I agreed with most of her post. It does sort of seem like hating for the sake of hating.

However...

AEUG only said that he agreed with Jpope, why is he being attacked? Ap2000 was doing more trolling than AEUG. I know, Eri & AEUG have been arch rivals since the dawn of time, but he barely said anything, and it certainly wasn't offensive. The Austrian Princess of 2000 even admitted to his behavior with the statement "I kept my ass out of this thread, but now I see others talking bad at her, so I feel like (mildly) joining in".

Anyway, we aren't anti pop hipsters, we're anti American pop hipsters. Huge difference. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... >/hmph.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':hmph:' />

The only good part of Judas is the instrumental break.

Even if she would have said no to Weild Al, I'd still be angrier about Judas than that.

That's the thing, he didn't really complain, he just agreed with Jpope's post.

He also posted in the Berryz Sakuracon thread moments later, which is happening this weekend. I think that was a more significant factor for posting than Weird Al's (spelled it right this time) request getting brushed off by Gaga's manager.

Things seem to have cooled down, but just in case I'm going to do my small part in moderating this section of the board. Let's not turn this into a troll-fest or a hate-fest. Debate Lady Gaga politics all you want! No thread is ~*ruined*~ because someone states an opinion you strongly disagree with. Threads are ruined by people making personal attacks against each other that really have nothing to do with the actual debate at hand. I'm pretty disappointed that the admins came into the thread just to praise someone for hating on AEUG, who barely said anything. (At least, that's what it looks like?) I thought this was supposed to be the everyone-loves-everyone board now.

In other news, I'm very sad that the link of Lady Gaga falling down that neshcom contributed doesn't seem to work (it just takes me to the main page of the site).

The Weird Al fuss is a little ridiculous. The dude's bread and butter (charity schmarity) relies on work and popularity of other artists, so he must feel fortunate when someone gives their blessing but it shouldn't be demanded. But the last time I really found his stuff funny was when I was 10 or so, so I'm admittedly biased.

I went to Gaga's concert in Tampa last weekend and the set, costumes, and her performance were all pretty solid but truly my favorite part were the protesters outside the arena! A whopping three people barricaded off by police and holding up signs about the sins of sodomy...they'll never measure up to their Westboro idols!

Gags' got a new song, "The Edge of Glory." It sounds like a song for Cher. It's better than Born This Way and Judas, but only in that it's safer where the other two were risky flops. Also, I can't get over that the drum machine is almost the exact same one from BTW.

Also, the video for Judas came out. Feels cheaper more like a theatrical show than BTW. I like the dancing, but all of the sets felt empty. The props were intricate and interesting, but some of the costumes were just bleh.

Judas. The sound of Judas literally makes me laugh out loud and I have no clue why. It's like an audio tickle. The video just makes it worse.

It doesn't help that I just now saw Ap's last post and that was also hilarious to me.

Thanks, dear :P I was actually going to make a stupid joke about how even if I may hang out in the bitch-cave from time to time, I believe you dug the hole for it and set it up :) But you sorta beat me to it, and I jest out of love.

Also, not trying to start any shit or anything, but I certainly didn't just pop into this thread to join on some bandwagon of hate for Gaga, or something, the subject is just sadly more relevant to me right now than most Jpop or other things discussed on this board right now, since I have to hear Gaga's stuff on the radio at work and have it kinda shoved down my throat a few times a week, whereas Jpop is a very voluntary thing, and I haven't had much time or ability to listen to/watch a lot of it lately. I kind of have to have an opinion on Gaga at the moment because I hear it often. I didn't just "see an easy target" as someone said, I'm just posting what feels fairly relevant to me right now since other people are discussing it and the fact that she has a new album makes it "current" topic which will influence and affect lots of people's opinions on the subject of her and her career.

Did she imply some weird fucked up love triangle between Jesus, Judas, and Mary Magdalene?

The gun...I was like, wtf is it pooping out and she just wipes lipstick omg

Hot tub in clothes with the water of seduction cuz she gets wet and then she orgasms into a giant wave omg

Nipple crosses!

Jesus is my virtue/but Judas is the demon I cling to

She rhymes Judas with Gaga

That was so bad it was awesome. I haven't laughed so hard in a long time. Much better than the art school pretentiousness of Born this Way. The song still sucks, but the video is full of laughs. THE GUN IS LIPSTICK, YOUR ARGUMENT IS INVALID.

And that next single or leaked track or whatever sucks major ballsacks too. 0/3, too bad so sad Gaga. Maybe this album's flop will get you to go back to making good irrelevant pop instead of trying to hamfist a message into pop. Ain't no one look to you for anything deeper, girlfriend. And if people want it flip them off because your best work is when you're not trying so hard to be srsbsnss.

Oh, I watched her HBO recording of her concert. It was alright overall. Her little storyline was fun/ny. At the ending credits she did an acapella rendition of Born this Way that was oodles better than the studio track. A shiny gold turd is still better than a dull brown turd.

PETIT, I LOVE YOU MORE THAN I HAVE EVER LOVED YOU. AND THAT IS SAYING A LOT, BECAUSE I AM PRETTY CREEPY ALREADY.

I was in an absolute fit of laughter through that entire video. Lipstick gun! Nipple crosses! Imagery so heavy handed it crossed over into parody! Even the Catholic church was too busy lollin' to be offended. Let that sink in for a minute.

How can you not find this hilarious? There is a man baptizing Lady Gaga with beer.

I put up a Facebook status about it was and one of my friends got genuinely offended, citing the 10 million dollar budget (Aaaaahahahahaa, telling me it cost 10 million dollars just makes how bad it is funnier) and that it's her directing debut (AGAIN, FUNNIER NOW). I had to exercise maximum restraint to not become a full on troll and "U MAD?" him into a complete tizzy. I likened watching the video to reading Kanye West's tweets, largely because I feel like Kanye HAS to know how funny his persona is. I like to think that Gaga watched this in the editing room, knowing full well that it was pure comedic gold, and released it anyway. She secretly snickers every time someone calls it genius and cackles anytime someone actually manages to get offended by her nonsense, and then she goes home and rolls in her money pile.

I also forgot to add but remembered since that song is already getting heavy radioplay and makes me think of it:

Let's make Jesus mexican because like, mexicans are named Jesus!

If Gaga is truly what you like to think my respect for her would go up by ten million points.

My co-worker made that exact Mexican name joke. I didn't realize it was a beer baptism either until MadGagaFanFriend(TM) mentioned it.

I'm surprised to hear people don't like The Edge of Glory, I actually liked it a lot. It's certainly not typical "Gaga sound" but it didn't feel as trite and boring as Born This Way.

As for the Judas video, I loved the dance and enjoyed the fashion. I'm not well versed in Catholicism so I didn't pay too much attention to all the ~*imagery and symbolism*~. I was more interested in her dresses and nails. I try not to take Gaga overly seriously. As long as I'm entertained by her I'm happy.

Just wanted to note here that the Born This Way album released today (and you can find it on Amazon for 99 cents right now, if you so desire).

I disliked pretty much every single that came out on this album, but for some reason when listening to the album in its entirety, it melds really well. Even the singles I disliked. They are good as a part of the collective sound of the album, rather than as individual singles. Kind of the opposite of the Fame Monster for me. I was kind of worried that the entire album would be overly preachy, but I'm not having that trouble at all. God help me, but I like pretty much the entire album. I'm actually kind of shocked, haha.

Also, Lady Gaga's official VEVO account has the entire album (including remixes) up for streaming. I haven't had a chance to listen to the whole thing, but the music I hadn't heard yet was pretty good. Then again, what song is Fashion of His Love almost an exact rip-off of?

I got it the same way and have similar opinions! I haven't finished listening, but so far, Scheisse is the best song and Born This Way is the worst.

Wooow, thanks for this! That's absurd. I would never download (pirated) albums to sample if all albums were priced this way.

Haven't heard it yet, but will eventually. Thanks again!!

First off, the 99 cent deal was so popular and broke so much of Amazon's bandwidth that they're continuing the deal today. Best get on it. And, with this purchase, you qualify for 20GB free in Amazon Cloud Storage for a year (US only)! Cool. Just remember, this is the normal, standard edition. It's lacking in three original tracks, and the five standard remixes. I haven't had a good opportunity to sit and really listen to the whole album, but that Scheisse remix is fantastic (but surprisingly not too distant from the original).

Second, I don't know if you guys know this, but Lady Gaga's Monster Ball Tour Live at Madison Square Garden premiered on HBO a few weeks ago. I finally got around to watching it (FYI, HBO has it on tonight at 11p). In short, I really enjoyed it. I loved the mid-song-mini-MC segments, the live adaptations were phenomenal, and I found the overarching plot to be successful. What was most striking was that it was partially a motivational lecture. I really did feel confident, triumphant, and--if I can be honest--kind of sexy. Every song had heart and soul and the selection was spot-on. The costumes were fantastic too. The living dress was really the outfit of the night. A number of songs were shortened versions, but the pacing never felt of. I had paused 30 minutes in and was surprised I hadn't been done with the first hour. You really see a lot in two hours. It's a wonderful voyage through the best of Lady Gaga since her rise to fame and I wonder if she's peaked. Then again, after hearing Born This Way as the kicker to the show, maybe we aren't at the height of her career. Watching this show, you'd be hard-pressed to imagine a greater display of one's talents. If you haven't seen it, really check it out. And if you can help it, see it in HD.
