yogurtbox - Tree of Knowledge

Post by surasshu »

Hey guys, I hope you'll forgive this blatant bit of self-promotion, but I'm really excited about this and maybe a couple of you will want to check it out!

yogurtbox - TREE OF KNOWLEDGE ~知恵の樹~ Original PC98 Game Music Tribute Album[/center]

For the past few months I've been working on the release of an album I made together with a friend. The concept of the album is basically a "lost" PC-98 eroge soundtrack, especially the later ones on the OPNA soundchip (such as DESIRE and YU NO). We both love the music from those games, really catchy stuff and often quite sophisticated as well, so we wanted to make a tribute to it.

We asked Diana (who used to frequent the forum as pu!) and a pixel artist called Jordan to help us out with the art aspects, with Diana doing character design, and Jordan making backgrounds, title screen art, and so on. We also came up with a silly story, about how the protagonist gets cursed by a Tree of Knowledge and that's when the player gets control of him (clever huh!)

Anyway, the album is coming out on May 1st, but we put up an authentic 90s-eroge-style website, and made a trailer as well! We will have something really cool posted this weekend too, so keep an eye out for that. :D Hope some of y'all get hit by some nostalgia when you see the website, I know I did!

Nice concept, heh. Eroge games and their soundtracks weren't and aren't my thing, so I can't really comment on much else before actually getting it.

Boo posting about it without it being available. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... tongue.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

But very nice release choice going with that site and doing a physical CD + download. I wish more bands and people did that!

I don't know how to appreciate this very well, but I say I'm happy for you and I support you? <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... hahaha.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':hahaha:' /> I'm sure there are others that can better articulate how awesome your music is. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... umbsup.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

(Sorry, hope it's not a comment that was left better unsaid!)

Haha, yeah sorry about that, we were gonna post a music player but there's a bit of a delay on it. I will update the thread when the player is available so you can get a bit more of an idea what the music's like. Also, when the CD comes out, of course.

EDIT: We got the preview flash player up now. Check it out!

Spambump! The CD is out now, and available from bandcamp. We also managed to finish the Flash "in-game" music preview player, so please check that out on the website, I think it's a lot of fun (and the art rocks pretty Goddamn hard). Okay that's enough spam for one lifetime! <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... /laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

I MUST FILE A COMPLAINT, GOOD SIR. MY COMPACT DISC ARRIVED TODAY, AND THE PLASTIC DID NOT HAVE ONE OF THOSE EASY-TO-PULL TABS TO OPEN. I AM VERY DISTRAUGHT OVER THIS AND WOULD LIKE A PARTIAL REFUND.

I haven't even had time to unzip the digital download, but I checked out the previews and they were quite cool. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... /weeeh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':weeeh:' /> Good stuff! I look forward to more. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... ek3run.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':eekrun:' />

Dude, this is really good shit. Seriously great job to both of you. The harder stuff reminds a bit of Roger Powell's (from Utopia) solo stuff from the 80s. I hope you make a lot of money from this.

This actually annoyed me also. Cheap bastards at Kunaki! <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... dammit.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':dammit:' />

Anyway thanks guys, glad you enjoyed it! Hopefully we'll be able to do some more stuff in this vein (well, obviously not another PC-98 tribute album, that would be silly).

And Roger Powell rocks pretty damn hard, so that's a big compliment!

I'm happy I happened to see this despite missing it before. I was always more a fan of wavetable synth with a softspot for the limited and compressed samples of SPC700, but I have nothing against the harsher purity of FM synths. It's just a bit more foreign to me. But, I love how FM synth sounds like how you guys used it for the opening song.

Anyway, yeah, as a tribute this succeeds fantastically.
