Full Spending PV is out. It ended up being a different concept that I thought it would be, but it's kind of cute. In the trapped-in-a-room-because-witches way cute. Not a whole lot of resolution, though. Also interesting because it's a lead single and had no dance in the PV.

I love this dance they do with their hands. It's pretty amazing actually. (Not sure if it's sign language or gibberish hand moves.) I wonder how they'll pull all off live?

Also, Johnny Appleseed has some amazing babies. Image

Fake It got a PV. Not complaining, even if it's kind of boring, since it's my definite favourite Perfume song. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... umbsup.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Perfume is doing more overseas expansion! Their fanclub, P.T.A. is opening its doors "overseas." Pre-registration is happening now (they're teasing special benefits for those who pre-register before November 30) and the site will go live in mid-February.

You can now join the oversea's fanclub y'all. Though it wont open officially till February 13th. :x

It's 1,200 yen to join the club. That's like, 13 dollars in American monopoly monies!

I think I might have joined solely for the Tshirts. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... stling.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':whistling:' />

Anything else is an added perk. Yaaay! That was so cheap for the whole year! Amazing.

In a class at school, we learned to sign the alphabet. I was wondering about that too, and after watching it a couple times, I recognize some of the letters like L Y B and possibly F. If it is sign language, they're doing it way to fast to figure out without being someone who signs frequently.

I want to join the fanclub, but my grandma doesn't let me do fun things like that. Grandma, why do you have to be stuck in the 60s? <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... ryalot.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':cryalot:' />

Registration's open now for the Perfume global fanclub and I'm wondering if I should sign up. It's 1200yen for the year but I'd really like to see what merchandise is available, because if the only perk is advance ticket sales, it wouldn't be worth it for me.

Perfume is just about wrapping up the first of hour of a five hour nonstop livestream right now. I'm not supposed to do this, but the livestream password is o i w a i j a (without spaces)

If they're trying to appeal to western fans in the fanclub, why are they starting it at 9aET? My office doesn't get ustream and my 4G is data capped <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... dammit.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':dammit:' />

Magic of Love PV

I like it more than I did Mirai no Museum or Spending All My Time. Clearly Nakata can't do more than one thing at a time, but this is still good and the PV is cute.

I'm really excited for their new album. I really can't wait for this to come out. How much longer must we wait?
Oh, it's been out since the beginning of this month? Why don't we act like it....

01. Enter the Sphere: The website motion capture dancer song gets a full version. I like the random change they throw into it.

02. Spring of Life (Album-mix): One of my favorite singles from this era.

03. Magic of Love (Album-mix): The updates are pretty sweet, the ending is a nice touch.

04. Clockwork: Somehow it sounds very Kylie Minogue. It's really cool.

05. 1mm: That's a very catchy chorus. It's nice how this album uses that sort of "snake charmer flute" sound which borders on synth vocals. It's why I loved the ending of Polyrhythm.

06. 未来のミュージアム: It's a cute single. I think this will become a signature sound of Perfume for when they need less dance music sounding tracks. It's like retro-future.

07. Party Maker: This indeed makes a party. Especially after the 4:30 mark. The longest track on the album, but I'm ok with it being 7 minutes.

08. ふりかえるといるよ: After the party, chill out with this gentle track. I don't think this offers enough to justify 6 minutes, even if the lyrics change through the length of the song.

09. ポイント: This works really well as a follow up to the previous song. It basically validates track 8.

10. だいじょばない: The speed of the percussion in Point is basically mirrored by the speed of this song's vocals.

11. Handy Man: Even more Kylie Minogue sound, + Middle Eastern twist? I love the detuned sound. There's something cool about every element in this song for me. Definitely my #1 track.

12. Sleeping Beauty: The full lyrics are "Hah... Sleeping Beauty." This is mostly an instrumental arpeggiator showcase. The glitchy, skipping part in the middle is great.

13. Spending all my time (Album-mix): I love how they pumped up the instrumental for the intro.

14. Dream Land: The simplicity of this track is refreshing.

I just realized that with ALBUM-mix versions, it's a way to get more money from fans who could use the "finish my album" discount option online. Since it's a different track, it probably won't pick up that you already have the single. Sneaky.

Overall, I think this was a much more satisfying album than JPN. I struggle to think of a new song made for JPN that had a significant impact. Yeah, it was cool that one of the songs featured their voices with less digital effects, but that was pretty much it. I liked the single remixes though, but LEVEL3 has single remixes plus many tracks that I would actually put on repeat.

I feel like the only weak moment is track 8, and that's just because it drags on.
Heck, Sleeping Beauty works for me and it's SERIOUSLY NOTHING MORE THAN  "Hah... Sleeping Beauty." Then again, Spending all my time is 90% repetition.

They took some risks by having several primarily instrumental tracks, but there are enough good new songs that it doesn't compromise the album presentation.

I got a good chance to listen to LEVEL3 today, but I've only had one run through, so if I do a track-by-track, it'll be later. Overall, Yasutaka has gotten better about keeping consistent sounds on albums and LEVEL3 is a good example of that. It's helped by a consistent sound among the album's 7 singles and b-sides. Enter the Sphere is a nice extension of the website loop, but I feel like it was missing some of the fun. Party Maker and Furikaeru are snoozefests. I'm glad Daijobanai and Handy Man made the album because they are really stars (and since I don't have those b-sides :P). Perfume albums always have a very cool image, but the lack of Hurly Burly and Communication is a downer. The Spending mix is just a cut-down from Perfume's Cannes festival show, but without as much of the cool, new sound. Sleeping Beauty is 100% a Butterfly sequel and it's nearly as boring. Dream Land is a pretty good capper.

It's in 4K if your CPU can handle it and somewhat seizure inducing. It's cool !

OK Go - I Won't Let You Down

Perfume has a cameo in their latest video. And the video is pretty stunning as usual.

Unfortunately we'll never see something as cool as this in K-Pop. =/

Anyone going to see Perfume at the Hollywood Palladium this Sunday (Nov. 9)? I'll be there, and I might have an extra ticket, as my wife is still not sure if she'll be able to make it.

Fun show! The Palladium is a pretty small venue -- 3,700 capacity -- and I was about half way back from the stage, a bit to the right. Probably about 50 feet from the stage, so not too far away at all. Also, the combination of the main floor being on a slight incline from the stage and me being one of the taller people there gave me a pretty clear view for the most part.

The girls were a lot of fun, and very engaging despite the language barrier. For their first break, they found a bi-lingual audience member and gave her a mic to translate for them, which had to have made her year. They are sneaky good dancers in that nothing stands out as technically amazing, but they are on-point and in unison with each other the entire time. Pretty sure their voices were heavily processed, but that's their sound, so it was expected

On the down side, the sound was very bass heavy, to the point of devouring a lot of the mid-range and high-end, which are kind of important for the Perfume sound. Also, they didn't play very many of my favorite songs, nor much of anything prior to the JPN album. Oh, and I never found anyone to take the extra ticket I bought, so I basically paid double to see them. Whatevs, it was still worth it.

I just got back from the NY show, which was easily the best concert I've been to. The girls are bundles of energy and tons of fun to watch with the choreography we know and love. The sound was loud and bass-heavy, yes, but I thought it worked well because it projected energy and because of how danceable it made the songs. And the visuals in the background were really engaging, to the point where sometimes I couldn't decide if I wanted to focus on the girls or the background and kept switching back and forth and back and forth.

I had such a blast, I hope they come back next year.

They talked about NYC bagels and cupcakes.

I wish the stage had been higher since I was much shorter than the people in front of me, but overall it was fun. My friend loved it, he's a really big fan of Perfume. I wasn't really familiar with their new stuff but they did all 3 of my favourite songs - Dream Fighter, Seventh Heaven, Polyrhythm - so I was happy.

So. I hear that essentially this entire concert was lipsynched, and that most of Perfume's concerts are lipsynched because of the vocoder effects or whatever.  Any thoughts?

I didn't think it was all lipsynched, although there was definitely heavy proccessing on the vocals, which is necessary because it's like that in the recordings.
