So I watched this episode and it doesn't really fit in any one thread. Mods can move it if they see fit.

Heyx3 is having a Kpop special next week on June 27th with AKB's head girl debuting her solo song. I'm going to keep an eye out for that episode once it gets uploaded somewhere.



So I'm confused -they keep flashing clips of Shojo Jidai but they never show up on the damn show. Edit: Okaaay so they were on the June 6th episode...not sure why they are still showing clips of them then...http://v.youku.com/v_show/id_XMjczNzM0ODQw.html



I used to watch this show religiously and I don't know when it got so...not about music at all. I don't know when or why Heyx3 turned into this weird lame variety show but basically the music doesn't even start until halfway through. However,



JuJu at 24 minutes for talk. Song at 30 min. Unbelievable - how does the music only begin at 30 min out of a 46 min program??



Kinki Kids performs at 42 min-45min.



They have a really fun flashback to 1998 around the 13 minute mark. I actually saw that episode when Morning Musume sang Summer Night Town on the show.

Just out of curiosity; why do you call them Shojo Jidai and not SNSD ?

Shoujo Jidai is their Japanese name. SNSD is just a fan abbreviation. Not sure I've ever actually seen it used officially.

I know it's their Japanese name...

It seems most of the western fans call them SNSD, Soshi or some Girls' Generation, but I never see anybody use Shojo Jidai for them, so that's why I asked eri.

Mmm, I can't remember "SNSD" because I don't understand the Korean words so it makes no sense to me phonetically. This also means I don't know what "Soshi" is, because it is an abbreviation of the real Korean name for SNSD. So, I don't remember either SNSD or Soshi off the top of my head.



I only understand Shojo Jidai. Granted, I understand "Girls Generation" but that name doesn't stick because I don't see them in that context. I only see them really on Japanese TV shows when they are introduced as "Shojo Jidai."

Heyx3 has been largely a variety show for quite a while I think. It's hard to keep track though because usually I only watch the cuts where the group I'm interested in appears, and Downtown has so many shows I forget which thing comes from which show.



They do have some really neat music specials from time to time though that are heavily music focused.

Berryz were on Heyx3 for an idol special with Idoling!!, NMB48, and Passpo



If you want to skip to the end, you wont be disappointed. Berryz sing (unlike the rest of the groups who sing something recent they sing Tsukiatte Iru no ni Kataomoi and do it live) and you get to see them 7 years ago when they were on Heyx3 promoting Fighting Pose Wa Date Ja Nai!



And you understand there is NO hiding from your past when you were a kid group that's been in the business for 7 years, as Risako soon finds out. (Yes you were that gawky looking Risako!) And Momoko puts her idol voice on stun then kill.

Though I do love me some Berryz, it makes me feel so old watching them! Especially when they showed that VTR since I was 17 when they came out. (Risako was 10?! No way!)

I wouldn't even care, except now after watching that awesome MKB + Buono performance in the media spam thread I KNOW SHE CAN SING NORMALLY! And now I can't un-know that information, and her cutesy voice and pigtails make me twice as angry.



That episode overall was lots of fun though! Yuko was a nice surprise.

Music Station 2 Hour Age Ranking Special - July 8



It is just a filler show - this time ranking by age group. Like, the best songs released by 23 year olds, etc.



It is just another one of the shows that is good for nostalgia. And making you feel bad that you haven't been a national star by the age of 17 Etc. And wonder at how many terrible songs sold enough to make these top 10 lists. Seriously, Kahara Tomomi, how did you ever happen.



You might only really be otherwise interested to skip forward to see a 25 year old Tsunku (around 40 min).

Am I the only one who doesn't think Momoko's voice is that high? Shit, all of S/mileage is squeakier and I don't really think age is an excuse - I'm their age and I sure as hell don't sound like that :P I can name about 5 Japanese singers off the top of my head who are squeakier than Momoko who aren't even in H!P.

It isn't the fact that she's got a really high voice, it's the fact that she's throwing her voice to sound high on purpose when people who know Berryz know that isn't Momoko's natural voice.

I don't think anyone has a naturally cutesy voice - high, sure, but cuteness is always affected. But she sounds far more natural to me in the performance above than in the Onegai Miwaku no Target one, tbh. It sounded like she was pushing her voice into a deeper tone, making it sound very thin and unsupported.

--So I've never ever seen these guys perform but, they are pretty adorable I must admit (the talk section). Their live performance is surprisingly good too. However, the "WE ARE SO SEXY" act is kind of embarrassing to watch. It is interesting to compare them to KATTUN and Exile, who are also all dressed in black but give off a really different image.
