This Kyary Pamyu Pamyu is some sort of model-turned-singer produced by Yasutaka Nakata. Her debut mini-album "Moshi Moshi Harajuku" will release August 17. Here's a digest from the original announcement:

[/indent] [indent] Kyary Pamyu Pamyu, who this spring graduated from high school and recently turned eighteen, has caused a nationwide sensation amongst middle and high schoolgirls with her eccentric sense of fashion. The model has recently started a YouTube channel which showcases karaoke videos using her own unique characters, alongside her regular program feature on video website Nico-Nico Douga which is entitled "Kyary Pamyu Pamyu no Way-Way Channel."

She is also apparently a fashion blogger who is known for hengao (strange face) and has her own line of fake eyelashes. Here's an interview TimeOut Tokyo did with her.



She seems like a big deal and kind of avant in the fashion world. She can be Perfume's weird little sister!

I've been addicted to this song for the past week. I found her through the gyaru fashion community, which is in love with her. The tumblr posts about her and this video are endless. This song is the new Chocolate Disco for me, I'll never be able to get it out of my head.



What I like about her over Perfume though, at least from this one video and some photos, is her completely over the top absurd fashion, faces, and and goofy dancing. How can you not smile when listening to this song or watching her? <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... #>/wub.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':wub:' />



The only thing I worry about is that much like Perfume, all of her stuff ends up sounding the same. I hope her album doesn't turn out to be one long stream of auto-tune to the same two or three music tracks.

While listening to a preview of it I thought to myself "man, this sounds a lot like mid-early capsule !".

Then I read the description of the yt video (they have the same producer).



It is indeed very catchy, but I can't yet say if it's not a bit too dumb for my taste.

This is nitpicky, but:



She's actually not really gyaru. The fashion in her video is certainly not gyaru at all. While the gyaru community has embraced her to an extent (and probably buys her lashes), she's mainly a model for KERA (gyaru magazines being more like Jelly, Popteen, and Egg) and promotes Harajuku street fashion.

She's kind of awesome. She even "made" (which seems to mean financed or organized) a Ghibli remix album which is immeasurably cute, including a RAM RIDER mix too!
