I know there was a hoax/fake about this a while ago but it sadly actually happened. Brain hemmhorage, from what I understand. He was only 61. :(

HOLD UP! I'M A GEEK THE BIG PARADOX!
Re: Takeshi Shudo, head writer for Pokemon, dies
As a longtime fan of Pokemon, I thank you for bringing this to our attention, Valerie. I'm sure I came across Shudo's name when I reviewed the Pokemon movies he wrote (1-3), but I hadn't remembered it. I looked him up on Anime News Network and I've actually seen many of the Pokemon episodes he wrote, as well as a few other anime films/series he wrote for (Ninja the Wonder Boy, Space Warriors Baldios, Martian Successor Nadesico). Baldios and Nadesico were esp. good. He also wrote some older series from the '80s that look and sound intriguing.
As you can see, I've even changed my avatar as a tribute to him.

He also created Minky Momo. I watched one of the OAVs he did, and that was about it for Minky Momo, though I did like it. It was just really hard to find since it was such an old series and never got officially subbed or dubbed. Though I do have a cell from the series I found at Anime Expo.
Sad to see him gone. :< (My worst fear is to die the way he did. Unless I was already in bed at the time, then it wouldn't be so bad I guess.) My grandmother died the same way, she was walking down the street at the time.
