Thanks for not letting this thread die. All this time I was planning to make an awesome long post with descriptions and stuff, but more important matters took all my free time - as much as I don't like to admit there's anything more important than awesome music and soundtracks posted here. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... >/nono.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':nono:' />

Anyway, here's the dump of some obligatory YK tracks showcasing her versatility and awesomeness. If a new thread is created, feel free to move this post.

VOICES - absolute and unmissable classic. Must Hear piece from a Definitely Should See anime.

Sora - from Escaflowne. Expect a lot more Escaflowne music here.

Moon - from Turn A Gundam. Didn't see the anime, but yes, I'm a big sucker for this kind of pieces.

Here - a relatively less known and underappreciated song by Maaya Sakamoto. In case you didn't know, you can't mention YK without mentioning Maaya. Or the other way round, considering seniority. But the point is, Maaya very well deserves her own thread, so be prepared to hear yet another voice to fall in love with.

Call Me Call Me - One of my favourites from the Cowboy Bebop soundtrack.

Shadow of Doubt - the slow build-up in this piece gives me the shivers just about every time. Give it a proper listen.

First Vision - Just slowly

Into GAEA - building up

Black Escaflowne - for the most

Live in Baghdad - EPIC FINALE EVER. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... prised.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':omg:' />

TANK - I think it's time we blow this scene

Felt tip pen - Chill-out music

Gotta knock a little harder - break through the door

Early Bird - in the calm before the storm

Run Rabbit Junk - I like to think of it as the "All out of gum theme".

Torukia - At this point you may be intrigued by this "Gabriela Robin" person singing in so many of them. I'm not gonna help you figure it out, if only because it took the fandom some 10 years to do so. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... >/wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Inner Universe - ending on a high note, and with the most appropriate title.

Gravity - outro.

Don't thank me for the best hour or so of your week. I know for a fact that when Wikipedia finally creates an article on Multiple Eargasm, as they should have done long ago, they will use this post as their main reference. And I could kept going on and on... <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... umbsup.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

OK, I am going to check out Yoko Kanno and if I like her I shall expect a substantial contribution from aine and Melon to contribute to covering the cost of me ordering an insane amount of media <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... >/wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> .

Ah, love Yuki Kajiura's sound. Although I've only really heard it in .hack, Noir and Mai-Hime, her songs are beautiful.

SO... new Kalafina single info (credit to canta-per-me.net):

The Kalafina official site just announced the 10th single of Kalafina titled 『to the beginning』 ! The title song is going to be used as Fate/Zero’s Opening Theme 2. This time there will be 4 editions of the single:

  • LE + DVD (PV): SECL-1088~1089 – Preorder
  • LE + Blu-Ray (PV): SECL-1090~1091 – Preorder
  • Regular Edition: SECL-1092 – Preorder
  • Anime Edition: CD + DVD with anime content – SECL-1093~1094 – Preorder
Artist: Kalafina

Title: to the beginning

Release Date: April 18, 2012

FP Bonus:

  • LE(A&B): card size calendar type A (Kalafina pic)
  • RE: card size calendar type B (Kalafina pic)
  • AE: card size calendar type C (Fate/Zero pic)

Hoping for another Magia-esque song or Progressive-esque song~ At least we'll get previews early because it's for an anime. Too bad it's in APRIL so we may get previews by the end of March. /bawwwwwwww

To make up for a depressing post here's some recent lives (I guess the lives from last fall are just being released on dvd/blu-ray):

Studio live - Magia and Oblivious

Lisani - Symphonia

Lisani - Oblivious

Animax - Magia and Sora Iro Days with Shokotan

Lots of linkies.

[/quote]

Thanks a lot for those, very impressive especially the Escaflowne stuff, lots of differing styles. I see I am going to be spending my money again <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... /smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> .

I know fuck-all about anime really, only ever watched a few films but I've started to watch stuff on Crunchyroll, currently about 130 episodes into Bleach which I am enjoing.

Any other suggestions for what's worth looking at on Crunchyroll appreciated, I'm looking for something that portrays life in a modern Japan in a synergistic, holistic fashion whilst looking at the problems of a patriarchal society in the 21st century. Failing that something with lots of monsters being shot/hacked/blown to pieces by sexy anime girls (school uniform optional).

Just been listening to Yuki Kajiura's triple CD The Works for Soundtrack, excellent as it shows so many different musical genres, many very different from the FictionJunction/Kalafina style.

I'm watching Chihayafuru on crunchyroll right now. It's a slice of life show that manages to make a boring game interesting. The OST is good too, btw.

Welcome. I forgot to mention, but I also feel somewhat patriotic proud of the Escaflowne orchestral tracks, with them being recorded by the Warsaw Philharmonic. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... umbsup.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

I looked through their offering and it seems all mainstream moe/shounen shit. I might be missing something because I stopped following new series a good few years ago, but it doesn't look ambitious at all, with the following notable exceptions:

Pale Cocoon

The Diary of Tortov Roddle

Mizu no kotoba

La Maison en Petits Cubes

I strongly recommend all the above shorts. On the other hand, their total running time is an hour or so. If you want a longer distraction, just download Evangelion together with the End of Evangelion movie. It actually fits your requirement surprisingly well. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... #>/meh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';/' />

Radio Preview of Kalafina's new single.

It's the typical anime theme sound, but the vocals and violins manage to save it. It kinda reminds me of something Angela would sing or a video game song. Not as earth shattering as Magia, but Magia was something special lol. I like it and want to hear the HQ full version~

edit - looping like I am, it reminds me of an anime-fied Parallel Hearts.

The intro is VERY Parallel Hearts, the violin/drumming sounds almost identical. Not one of their more dramatic numbers but I like what I hear.

PV is up on Jpopsuki, can't find the youtube link yet.

I like the new found edge Hikaru is putting in her voice. It gives the song a punch when she sings, and is especially lovely with Wakana's clean voice. Wakana's solo at the end gave me chills.

Keiko is my goddess, as per usual. I want her ring! <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... nceman.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':danceman:' />

But overall, the song is missing something that keeps me from absolutely loving it. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... hahaha.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':hahaha:' />

Yeah, I thought her English was actually better than the translator that they used for parts of the MCs.

She definitely was reading off notes, but I like that she did sound pretty natural and even joked a bit. (I giggled when she introduced Emily and was gushing about how wonderful her voice is and then added "And sometimes she's my English teacher!")

Okay, I can't wait to buy it because my checks are going to be sucky probably until July. (Unless I get that part time job I applied to for extra cash) Luckily someone uploaded the blu-ray rip to JPS~

Thoughts on first half:

- Is the mix bad or am I losing my hearing? Because I'm having trouble hearing Keiko not just in harmonies, but on her solo lines as well! It seems like in Red Moon I could hear her perfectly but on this one I can only hear Wakana/Haruka. Not that I don't enjoy their voices too but hehe.

- Keiko has blossomed into an amazing performer. Her expressions, movements, and voice speak volumes from her gained confidence. In your eyes was one of my favorites, especially during her solo where she struts and interacts with the other members. I love seeing things like that in performances.

- There are several songs I was not feeling on the After Eden album that I like now due to their performances.

1. Sounds fine to me despite hearing ruined by listening to Metallica at full volume for years <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... umbsup.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

2. Totally agree, there are actually some real dance moves during the concert and there is a choreographer listed in the credits. I think Hikaru is also developing a lot as a performer, she's getting far more assured now.

Whenever I read In Your Eyes I think of...

3. I find I tend to pay attention to a live performance more which makes me appreciate a song more and then when I listen to the album again I hear a lot that I missed the first time.

Very nice, I've got it on order and I've been watching the second series of Fate/Zero on Crunchyroll.

A brilliant example of how the Kalafina girl's voices compliment each other even if Hikaru does own it.

The comments for the video are funny. They claim a Hikaru lead bias in Kalafina, but I've always seen it as Wakana=Hikaru>Keiko. But Keiko is constantly harmonizing and she probably has more lines then the two of them combined lol.

I forgot to post impressions of the rest of the After Eden live:

-Wakana and Hikaru constantly upstage themselves. I blame the cameramen for capturing them at the angle with the arm they hold their mics with. Too often we got a "mic covering face" shot.

-I agree with Hikaru, but she seems like she hasn't reached her full potential yet. She hovers between Keiko's energy and Wakana's regal aura, but neither of those seem to suit her perfectly. Not to say she doesn't hold her own with the other girls, I'm just wondering which direction she will go in when she finally matures as performer.

Now you see I would have said Wakana=Keiko>Hikaru. I think Wakana stands out more because she tends to have that "operatic" tone she uses on some songs (beginning of progressive) but Keiko probably has more lines.

I agree, I still think Hikaru's growing, she came across (to me at least who doesn't speak Japanese) on the behind the scenes videos as very shy so maybe she's overcompensating a little by going for dynamic. It'll be fun watching <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... /smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />.
