Problem is, I don't recognize either girl. I'm guessing from the context that they're Haruna and Ayumi, but they don't look like them. Shouldn't a good picture mean that they're at least recognizable?
They are very recognizable and don't look similar.

Risako takes the best blog photos. I use some of the same apps she does now.

I AM NOT BIASED.
Which apps does she use, just out of curiousity? I like some of the filters she uses.
My favorite that she uses (that is free) is Vintage Deco. She also uses phonto (which is basically for adding text), pudding cam (which gives you different "cameras" and films to take pictures with!), and Be Funky. There were a few others she mentioned that I didn't get because they cost money and I'm not a huge photography person, but she posted them on one of her blog Q&As if those aren't what you're looking for. I think one was called Lumie and another was called Hanko?
Lumie is awesome. I had PuddingCam but I didn't like the setup. I have 20 camera apps holy crap. O_O

*downloading all the apps you guys have mentioned*

I feel like the newer gens have better selfie skills than the older ones. (Like Sayu and Reina)

Reina has an excuse because of her "dumb phone", sorry Reina.

Whereas Sayu, the conceited girl who loves her face does not always take the best picture of herself.

Is it like a generation gap kinda thing?

Using a Tilt-shift Filter to Simulate wide Aperture Bokeh Nakajima Saki

What is tilt-shift?

Link to Wikipedia

Basically it involves changing the plane of focus using specialized lenses. It can also be simulated by blurring the top and bottom of the photo. This top-bottom blur is also called the miniature effect because it can make large buildings appear miniature

Here's an example of my own photo using my camera's miniature effect

With Saki's pictures she sometimes uses this til-shift effect to blur out the backgrounds leaving the faces in focus.

Image

This gives a similar effect to portrait photography using a wide aperture to blur out the backgrounds.

Here's an example

It cannot be done naturally on a smartphone camera because their lens systems are too short.

Here's another Saki tilt-shift self shot. I edited the colors, brightness and contrast. and fixed some of the more glaring artifacts caused by gree compressing the image into a singularity.

Image

Here's the original

And just for fun, a couple more Saki pictures I liked

Nakki takes better photos of herself than HP photographers.

Maybe from now on they should fired all the photographers and cover designers, and let the girls use their selfies as

single covers.

That's because H!P photographers are usually taking pictures of Saki's ass and not her face.

Risako still hasn't mastered her facial expressions after all this time. Sometimes she looks good and then sometimes that Canadian blood of hers just ruins it.

I've always suspected she was not wholly Japanese but I never saw any reference to it. I may even have asked on this forum at one time. Is this a joke or can you confirm that she is indeed part Canadian?

Not sure where the source for it is after all this time, but one of her parents is half Canadian, or was it one of her grandparents?

Her grandmother is supposedly Canadian. I've seen people saying that it was a joke, but that's probably because they don't want their Japaneez princess to be no filthy mudblood.

Storytelling Michishige Sayumi

Because sometimes photos are about more than just a pretty, well lit face.

I love how Sayumi will often capture candid moments like these. I just put them together into a single image, and brightened the middle 4 slightly.

Oh she must have learned that pose from some American stars without knowing what that means. Must have thought it was cool or sexy or something...

Back in the day when I first started posting here I used to see that pose all the time, mainly from TsujiKago. I don't think it carries the same meaning in Japan.

On one of those segments about taking pictures of themselves, I recall one of the HP members, probably Sayu or Reina, saying to do it to make your face look smaller. Although in Sayu's case, I'm sure to original applies too.

She was talking about just using the V near your chin, not the tongue part. The tongue part is kind of what makes it dirty, so I say Sayu's innocent on this one. Erina's obviously a lesbian for Risa, so I'm not surprised.

I've seen a lot of Japanese girls do the tongue thing in pictures, and most of the time I'm fairly certain it's just an attempt to look cool or badass. If it had the same meaning in Japan their managers wouldn't let them post pictures like that.
