I don’t see any resemblance between Runo and Meimei. But I do think Honoka looks like Eguchi and Homare put together.

Up Front is busy rescheduling postponed activities, and they decided to give it another try on the KSS performance test, now taking place on July 26. It will be streamed online through a pay-for-view service. You can get your ticket on July 2.
https://twitter.com/hipnewsservice/status/1277178741446320128

Nishimura Karin (Hokkaido Kenshuusei) will not be participating. She has been diagnosed with orthostatic dysregulation and goes on hiatus.
That makes two hiatus-girls for Hokkaido (Kawano Minori has been out since January 2019). Ishiguri Kanami will be alone once again :(

I’m not so much, only because a lot of these songs get sung during H!P concerts. Especially in the last few years. And they problem consider it a challenge to do them.

They posted a link to the stream in the Discord, so I watched it. Here are the quick notes I jotted down for each girl:

<div>Nakayama - Didn't see</div>
<div>Yofuu - Not bad</div>
<div>Hashida - Not great</div>
<div>Uemura - Horrible. Voice broke down during chorus</div>
<div>Yonemura - Not bad. Great energy. Crazy eyes.</div>
<div>Kitahara - Pretty good. </div>
<div>Murakoshi - Not great. </div>
<div>Nishizaki - Not horrible. Looks kinda awkward.</div>
<div>Onoda - Started strong, then lost it completely in chorus. Kinda rough to watch.</div>
<div>Kubota - Not great</div>
<div>Hirayama - Pretty good. </div>
<div>Saitou - Okay on verse, pretty bad on chorus. Cried after performance.</div>
<div>Ebata - Okay-ish. She got 2 shots, cos stream died on 1st. Cried after 1st.</div>
<div>Tamenaga - Not great singing, but looks like an idol.</div>
<div>Matsubara - Sang in tune better than anyone else. Super immature voice, though. </div>
<div>Yamada - Pretty bad.</div>
<div>Ishiguri - Started pretty good, then fizzled. Good stage presence, tho.</div>
<div>Hiromoto - Not great. Really pushing the cutsie voice. Good presence.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>I'm shocked at how many of these girls can not sing even half of a song before losing their wind and voice. Is this normal for KSS? I was pretty unimpressed overall.</div>

Yeah It’s pretty obvious the KSS get more training in dance than they do in singing. Or they get trained to sing while dancing. I’m not sure how it works. And for the most part they aren’t the greatest and most girls end up training on their own. On their own time. Especially true because of the Covid problem. With proper training a few of them have a chance and a future within H!P.

I’m kinda wanting Yofuu in Angerme or Morning Musume, mostly Angerme. She’d fill my Meimi void.

I wouldn't be surprised if Ishiguri joined ANGERME (considering they're holding the audition right now). She's pretty popular, an okay-ish performer (I mean, she won, right?) and it fits their current style to debut the Hokkaido girls. She can't be worse than Oota.

I guess it’s worth remembering that we just debuted a whole bunch of Kenshuusei in the last couple years, so who we’re dealing with now is probably the leftovers and newbies.

Finally got around to watch a few of these (not all unfortunately, some already got deleted, if anyone else wants to watch the remaining performances: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLup-NTceLUODYz2Z8KR-PMMaY6FykjUTn)...
...oof, some of them are raw. No, let me phrase this differently: All of them are raw and most are just difficult to watch and listen to.

Then again, as Buono and Paru said, that's basically the rest of the KSS. Leftovers and newbies.

Of the available videos I thought Kitahara Momo was the best. Her singing skills are lacking, but she has the makings of a good voice with proper training and her dancing and impressions were good.

Many of the girls are rushing and singing too fast, I’m sure because they’re nervous, but what really showed was the lack of musicality. Even if they were on pitch they weren’t able to emote well. It really seems like the KSS get little to no vocal training and it really shows :/

She was one of the few that showed some promise to me. Matsubara was another one who, once she matures a bit, looks like she could become good. She can already sing in tune fairly well, which is like 80% of the battle for an idol.

Massara Blue Jeans was particularly rough to watch. Good singing can save bad dancing, but good dancing cannot save bad singing...

Someone uploaded the event to bilibili: https://www.bilibili.com/video/BV1MC4y1b7j4

Opinions on the solos:

[spoilerbox]
Nakayama Natsume - Namida no Iro
I like the general colour of her voice. Sounds like Maria without the pressing. Still raw of course and quite a bit of yelling, but I expected worse.

Yofu Runo - Umaretate no Baby Love
I’m surprised - she’s one of the newest girls and among the youngest (12 yo), but she’s better than many of current H!P at their debut. She still has a very childish voice and a bit of trouble with the rhythm during the chorus but, woah. If she keeps it up she should be a certain member to debut in 2-3 years.

Hashida Honoka - One Summer Night ~Manatsu no Kesshin~
I like the airy sound of her voice. Maybe I’m just tired of H!P’s pressing though lol. Obvious pitch problems here, but overall not bad, just not very impressive either. Maybe the downside to her airy voice is that she can’t really put any accents there. She looked like she was about to cry, though.

Uemura Hasumi - Miss Love Tantei
One of the youngest. She also sounds like a baby lol. Long way to go here, her movements are pretty half-assed and her voice is very weak. The fact that it disappeared even before the real chorus was pretty shocking. I want to say something about her expression, but I’m not sure what. I feel like that’s her strongest point, though.

Yonemura Kirara - Kiseki no Kaori Dance
I saw a lot of people being disappointed with Kirara’s performance. Personally I’m mostly disappointed with her choosing that song. Not only is it performed at least once per year (Yuhane just performed it at Solo Fes!), but it’s also so unrewarding. I liked Kirara’s dancing better than Yuhane’s. Her voice needs work, it broke in the chorus and after that it was pretty much awkward. Her expressions are good, though. Considering that she’s been in the KSS for 5 years now I feel like she’s gonna debut soon. Hopefully not Anju, they had their fair share of tin-eared KSS for some time now (Rin, Oota, Kawamuu, Kassa…).

Kitahara Momo - Tokaikko Junjou (2012 Shinsei Naru Ver.)
Clever to choose a song that with a talking part. Her dancing is good, but it could be sharper for a song like this. She hits the notes but can’t hold them. I guess she was going for expressions, but her eyes just make her look really sleepy when she’s trying to be cool.

Murakoshi Ayana - Tabidachi no Haru ga Kita
Yeah, tin-ear. Like she’s not the Sayumi or Oharu kind of bad, but she’s constantly off by one note or so. Other than that decent dancing and she’s cute.

Nishizaki Miku - Special Generation
There’s something in her that’s quite captivating. Not sure what it is, her singing is pretty much sub-par, her dancing is good, but I think it’s her smile. It’s good.

Onoda Karin - "Hitori de Ikiraresou" tte Sore tte Nee, Homete Iru no?
I’ve heard that Onoda is the new hope for singing talent in the KSS, but the should just advice against kids like her picking this song. It’s at least one size too big for her. Especially the chorus killed the performance. The verse is not even bad, just raw. She could have won with another song.

Kubota Nanami - Watashi no Miryoku ni Kizukanai Donkan no Hito
Maybe it wasn’t Aika being bad at singing this song, maybe the song is just bad. Just kidding. So that Kubota girl is in the KSS special unit? I don’t really see it. Overdone expressions, bad voice and well, KSS dancing.

Hirayama Yuki - Come with me
Glad to see this song finally getting some love.
Well, about Yuki… her voice is both cool and grating at the same time. Like it’s always on the edge and you wait for it to smooth out. Not sure if it only needs some work. The song choice was already quite fitting, but I guess Yuki is just not there yet.

Saito Madoka - Kon’ya Dake Utaretakatta
Another KSS unit member. I see it more with her more than with Kubota. Another bad song to pick though, tough dancing and very short lines. Singing it solo you probably always sound of breath. She cried, I can kind of understand why.

Ebata Kisaki - 21ji Made no Cinderella
She had to perform twice - was it because of the streaming problems..? But well, a very KSS performance. Wild, bad singing, energetic dancing. She’s a baby so well.

Tamenata Shion - Daite yo! PLEASE GO ON
Her singing is sub-par. I don’t know why the girls keep choosing these songs. You can only fail with them if you’re not super good. I guess she was going for cool/sexy, but her dancing is not expressive enough, neither are her expressions.

Matsubara Yulia - Akai Earphone
It’s interesting seeing Yulia grow up. She went from absolutely horrible to baby voice that needs some work. If she still plans on becoming a comedian with maybe some performing on the side, then… this might work actually. Her dancing has become much better, too. Her expressions are still a bit dear-in-headlights but then again, she’s still young.

Yamada Ichigo - SHALL WE LOVE?
See Shion’s Daite yo. Just don’t do these songs. She’s too flappy to be cool/sexy, and her singing is just horrible.
I mean okay, all of them are basically kids. But are they really not taught that dancing is more than moving? Are they not taught that you have to feel the beat, the rhythm? Yeah, she raised her arm at the right time to the right point, but it was so emotionless.

Ishiguri Kanami - Resonant Blue
I know she won, but I haven’t seen her performance before. Her victory must have been based on expressions alone because… eh? Her singing is horrible. Even her dancing is awkward (see: you need to do more than move your limbs). I know it’s mean, but you know when people compare someone’s dancing to a lumberjack chopping wood? That’s the feeling I got. Energetic, sure, but so… weird. Her expressions were really good, though.

Hiromoto Ruli - Tachiagarl
Oof, I guess at 17 you can’t improve much more. She reminds me a lot of Ikuta, in fact. When she did her forced cute act. I guess since Ikuta kind of found her niche there’s hope for Ruli but… it’s not singing for sure. Her dancing was really cute though and I loved her expressions.

While Ishiguri wasn't the best at any one thing, I can see the argument for saying she was the most polished overall. I also have hope for Matsubara, as she's still young af, and at least sang in tune.

It's been over a year since I last updated the front page. I did so now. Next update I'll be adding new pictures for all the girls. I'm going to wait just in case we get some new kenshuusei from the last ANGERME auditions.

And fun trivia since I had to go digging for Ruru's departure date.  How long current members have been in the system.

<div>Yonemura Kirara January 15, 2016 - present 4 Years, 9 Months, 18 Days
<b>(Kirara will hit the 5 year club next year! Joining Inoue Hikaru & Ichioka Reina, the only two members from H!P Kenshuusei that weren't originally in the H!P Eggs to make it that far.) </b></div>
<div>Ishiguri Kanami, Kawano Minori (HKSS): 4 Years, 3 Months, 3 Days
(Kawano Minori has been on hiatus for so long, two generations joined and left! (Well the other one is on Hiatus now too.)</div>
<div>Yamada Ichigo, Nakayama Natsume: 3 Years, 7 Months, 27 Days</div>
<div>Kubota Nanami, Matsubara Yulia: 2 Years, 10 Months, 29 Days</div>
<div>Saito Madoka, Onoda Karin: 2 Years, 0 Months, 1 Day</div>
<div>Hiromoto Ruli, Hashida Honoka, Nishizaki Miku, Hirayama Yuki, Kitahara Momo, Ebata Kisaki, Yofu Runo, Murakoshi Ayana, Uemura Hasumi: 1 Year, 3 Months, 0 Days</div>
<div>Nishimura Karin(HKSS): 0 Years, 10 Months, 30 Days
<b>(She's basically been on hiatus since she joined. She joined in December and went on hiatus in June. She was diagnosed with orthostatic intolerance.)</b></div>
