You knew the moment they added the new girl that was barely in the H!PK for a hot minute she was destined for ace territory. I don't mind though. My brain is starting to register her as a mix of Kamei with Zukki vocals and since I liked both of those things, she's not on my shit list just yet. 
 
Erina's solo really did surprise me. She's gotten good in the booth, but her live singing still needs a lot of work.

Well, Erina sounded surprisingly good, hopefully she will sound at least nearly as good live. Other than that, they really seem to be favoring Yoko over Kaede, but I guess we'll see that better later on.

Really? My eyes kept being drawn to Kaede in the MV, especially in dance shots. Well, when it wasn't a close up of Yoko, that is XD
 
I'm just happy H!P finally seems to be pushing a new gen, believing in their potential right from the start. *Cough cough*
Nothing is going to make an idol grow more than pressure/opportunity right as they debut, imo.
 
PS--the flag waving was actually really cool. Some of those girls worked it well!

FInally had a chance to see the MV. It was basically a danceshot with close ups but it wasn't bad like they sometimes can be. I still like the song but not as much now that I've heard it multiple times. But I do like the meaning behind the lyrics. Erina's solo was impressive, I didn't know she had a good voice.


Overall, the music video felt like a good debut for 13ki. I noticed them a lot. 12ki was also a lot more noticeable and actually seemed to be putting in a bit of effort.

Even though this isn't the best debut out there, it's not the worst.

Same here. I think I'd be drawn to her even if this video was the first time I'd ever seen MM.

A couple hours ago I just ranked every generation debut single in terms of how that song showcased the new members and (imo) Brand New Morning is easily tied #1 with Shabondama.

I guess it's a lot easier to focus one song in only 2 new members instead of 4, but in terms of close-ups, lines, dance formation, etc. this song is very very focused in Kaede and Yokoyama. I know I said Yokoyama was above in priority (and I still think so, I think it shows) but Kaede was still above everyone else, probably excluding Mizuki.

Haven't had a chance to get around to hearing Jealousy Jealousy, but Brand New Morning was kind of a let-down.  The intro got me jazzed and excited because it was giving me kind of late 90's jpop trance music vibes but then the verses and chorus fell back into generic EDMusume territory.
 
I can't complain about them pushing YokoReina because she is the cutest thing since sliced bread.  I have almost reached wota status for this girl (w/o the creepy sexual element LOL).  I wanna put her in my pocket.

BRAND NEW MORNING - I haven't been this instantly and this intensely in love with a new MM song in a long time! And the PV is great too. I don't know what cosmic event caused that but it hits all the right spots.

Jealousy Jealousy - can jump off a cliff together with every other bland filler song, and I do feel heartbroken saying that seeing how it's Tsunku's song.

Morning Misoshiru - shoehorning new lyrics into an old song almost always sounds silly and this is no exception, and the fact they did it for a commercial tie-in makes it even more distasteful to me. At least they didn't rape the arrangement too much so there's that.

Get you! - uh I should listen to it finally.

But really BRAND NEW MORNING alone makes up for all the bad for me this time around, it's just so good. And the 13th Gen are already 100x more exciting and interesting 2 months in than the 12th after 2 years. 2017 is shaping up to be great if they manage to keep this up.

Masaki hasn't graduated I know but only with her not participating in this and 13ki here the line distribution in both songs feels so fresh... especially with Miki getting lines.

I rewatched the vid and you're right, their arms go everywhere, but definitely not in sync haha. I remember someone complaining that they shoot the dance shots as soon as they know the dance so maybe they want to work on their sync a bit. And yeah, it's quite 90's, maybe also early 2000's.

It's odd because MM are about as in sync as a jpop group gets normally. Maybe this choreo was extra rushed.

I really like the song and PV for Jealousy, but agree that the choreo is not the best.


Also someone was saying that Brand New Morning (just going to call it BNM) should have been used for 12th gens debut, but I feel like it's more appropriate for 13th gen because there is no Riho, and she really defined the Colorful Era.

Jealousy Jealousy preview is better than I expected. I'm usually against their overuse of white outfits, but it worked this time. I'll wait for the full MV to judge it more fully. I like the line distribution now, and while I miss Masaki, I kind of like the songs without her in them. I do hope that she recovers though.
