Yeah, JSB have a lot of mainstream popularity so they're tough to contend with although the new Oricon rules hit them too.

And is it just me or does it feel like MM didn't do many events pre-release date?

MM usually do a ton of events but not as many as they used to (for comparison, Wagamama had nearly 50), and this time the single was last minute.

I think MM's pre-release events are typically restricted to pre-concert handshake events, and those were used for Seishun Kozou (released in April, 1 month into the spring tour) and One & Only (released in Dec, after the winter tour).  Not sure if they used the same tactic for Utakata or Sexy Cat.
 
They might have used theopportunity to promote at the Hello Con, but would have had to compete with Country Girls and Tsubaki for slots.  Plus, the latter was debuting anyway so I guess the marketing department requested extra resources for a group debut single.  In response, I think MM has more handshake/chekis/autograph sessions to catch up.  It certainly felt that way when I copied their release schedule into my calendar.

This time they have handshake/chekis/autograph sessions until 6/18 in Osaka (which makes me hope for a Naruchika at this moment), after having some through their tour, with one on the day of their Budoukan if I recall well.

With the Rinoless version of Get You, I can now check the Akimoto/Musume song off my bucket list of wants. Next is a Tsunku48 song. 
 
BTW, I like it. But then again I'm a fan of Akimoto's stuff, just as much as I am of Tsunku's.

I don't have an opinion on his work because he's just a lyricist, but I tend to not be impressed with AKB's composers.

We'll see if Mizuki actually leaves anytime soon... She's still really young and one of the most popular members. That'd be a real hit to the group fanbase.
Also, this is the general list of people I see doing harmonies:
-Sato
-Oda
-Kudo
-Miki
 
I'd say Sato probably does the most harmonies... Not that they get used. But I feel they at least often show her asking to record them. They might just not show Oda and Kudo asking as much as they show Sato asking :)

Technically everybody did. The entire group is credited with harmonies.

I don't know the exact numbers, I just know #1 went to a kpop group who ranked like 4 or 5 on Oricon. Their number was super high, a shit ton of bulk buying was involved.

Korean group UP10TION sold 159,779 copies.

Only 1,5k away on Billboard :/.

It didn't get mentioned here, but Tsubaki Factory actually had a higher ranking than MM did on the 4th day. They were at 6, while MM was at 10.

How are UP10TION selling so much in Japan when they're still super nugu level in Korea?

Their physical sales in Korea are actually pretty good, they just don't matter. A lot of boy groups sell well in Japan.

Kpop has groups upon groups of boy bands to choose from... Jpop has.... Exile? Lol.

But yeah, seems like there aren't as many boy bands anymore, or rather the members get old, do solo stuff and the group releases less as a result. But if they do release stuff it's basically gold in the form of discs.
