So it turns out DELUXE COLORS! is like an avex idol training school.

It means she's just a student at one of Avex's schools - which is totally allowed. Riho always went to a special art school. Hell, Erina was signed under a modeling agency.

I love Ribbon-chan. <3 Big props for singing and dancing at the same time.

I don't remember Mogi's voice being so cute, but she still hasn't improved enough to be part of S/mileage.

I'm glad to see Aina. I thought she was just ok though.

Karin is pro at this. I hope she makes it into either S/mileage or MM.

I think Karin is definitely going into either S/Mileage or Momusu.

I think Momusu needs her more, however.

To be frank, I don't think S/Mileage really needs anybody. So if I see someone talented, I want them to go straight to MM.

Kanon wrote on her blog today that the annoucement of the new members will be at the end of the current H!P tour, the last show I presume.

I'm excited. I just hope that the girl is cute and her voice matches with the rest of them. Their voices fit well together, so I hope new girl isn't some left fielder in terms of vocals.

That would certainly be nice, S/mileage aren't too bad vocal wise, dawa needs to quit the OTT cutsey stuff, Saki has a strong voice that will get better.

Kanon and Yuka again will just get better as time goes by.

I agree that new member auditions need to focus more on talent though, in terms of MM since 4th gen looks have been chosen over talent in the majority of selections.

Remember when Konno got told she was the worst of the lot, came last in every test but that tsunku wanted to pick her because she was so bad...

Yeh.... tsunku... try picking members who are good and make them great instead of bad members into OK-ish members.

Still, the 9th gen is easily the best talent wise since.... ever...?

ahem... S/mileage thread sorry!

No! Leave Dawa and her adorableness alone!

Why does everyone who is not a fan of S/mileage want them to be some deep voiced vocally strong group?

You've already got Berryz for that, let S/mileage stay adorable and cute.

They are primarily, as are all H!P groups and soloists, singers. If I can't listen to the singing I ain't going to buy the singles or albums. I don't speak Japanese so I am not going to watch some TV programme about a group that I can't listen to.

I liked MM and now Berryz and C-ute because, although they have all had at one time or another a bloody awful singer(s), they had enough good singers to make up for them. After that adorable, cute, sexy, whatever is a bonus.

I think 9th gen are cool and all, but they aren't really the best talent wise, in my opinion at least. I actually think if 8th gen got the attention 9th gen is getting now, they would have been pretty good. But this isnt about MM.

It would be nice to hear S/mileage have some kind of vocal variety, you can still have cute songs without sounding like a little kid.

I haven't seen anyone say they want S/mileage to have deep voices. Just that they would like S/mileage to learn to sing appropriatelly for each song type. If S/mileage is going to sing a mature song, they should sound mature. If they're going to sing a cutesy song of course they should stay cutesy.

Also, why would vocally strong and cute/adorable be mutually exclusive? MiniMoni, for the most part, sounded good and cute at the same time. I'm a fan of S/mileage, just not as much as I used to be because in recent singles (particularly the A-sides) they tend to shout-sing and have gradually changed their voices so that they sound more and more the same. Especially Kanon and Saki. They have almost no softness to their voices and shout-sing a lot lately. They're not bad, they're not off key, they're just not as pleasant to listen to as their early singles.

I think the group could really benefit from a few different sounding, but still talented voices. Members who could help diversify their sound a little without taking away from their cute/happy/fun/youthful image. A Mika/Mari to their Tsuji/Kago, so to speak.

Whenever I see behind the scenes clips of the girls (in H!P generally) while recording, they are always prodded by Tsunku to sing in specific ways. I truly believe that the longer idols are trapped in "idol land," the more they are slowly pushed to sing in anime squeal voices because that is what presumably fits the "idol/genki/cute/herpderp" image. The last 3 singles were also super idol-irific generic, imo. Like, Koi Ni Booing was the worst at this but, Uchoten Love and Shortcut are also songs that seem to confuse "yell-singing" with "energetic."

Ah sorry, mixing up things that I hear at other forums (and I had just woken up, not good for sorting out things like that).

And now that I am properly awake...

Yeah I love Yuuka, but it would be nice if she were less nasally. Dawa has improved a lot imo since their indies singles & SC Egg!.

And Gakkyuu Inchou was just.....yeah.

Those solos Saki's been doing at the concerts are evidence that she can sing better than her S/mileage voice would lead you to believe. I guess they're just, you know, singing it the way they're told. There's a few H!P members who sing in somewhat high pitched and obnoxious voices and I really don't think they would sound like that if someone wasn't telling them to sing that way or if they weren't doing it in an effort to seem cute.

S/Mileage is the one "cute" group in H!P, now that Berryz and Cute have grown up (and trying hard to be sexy now).

S/Mileage's high-pitched brand of singing is part of that image. The fact that they all act similar is part of their charm, at least to me. That's why I question these auditions.

Agreed for all except Wada. She seems to talk/sing in the same shrill voice of a nervous hamster no matter the circumstances.

While I agree that this is all probably true, it doesn't really matter. At the end of the day, that's the way they sound now regardless of whether they made the decision themselves or a producer said "Now do this number like Koharu." I don't care why it's happening, I would just like it to happen less.

I'm hoping that this audition might bring around a bit of a change in that regard, shake things up a bit or make the group a bit more dynamic. If it's just more of the same, then they truly will have messed with a good group dynamic for no reason.

3rd round will be streamed.

http://s-mileage.jp/info/2662

It'll be on the 27th (Wed.) at 2pm JST. Which is 7/26 10pm PST, 1/27 1am EST.

http://live.nicovideo.jp/watch/lv57801027

I'll be in school then. Dammit. Can't do anything about that.

Japan's on summer break, that's why it's so early -3-

Curse my school for switching us to year round 3 years ago. Still not over it. >:( Otherwise I could watch this

But adult peoples in Japan will still have work I guess.

Were the Egg auditions required, or did all of them that were eligible just decide to audition themselves? Because I think it was everyone but the two that were too young.

I forgot to add, it'll be tomorrow for those of us in the US (I don't know other time zones) so 7/26.

7/27 Japan time.

If they are going to have an egg, I'm thinking they might do it like Fuku-chan and not include the egg in the last round.

I'm seriously contemplating faking sick just so I can stay home and watch this.

(but i know i won't be able to do it...i'll feel to guilty, so here's hoping i get sick tonight!!)

And S/mileage's 7th single has been already been announced. It's called Tachiagaaru (タチアガール) and goes on sale 9/28.

That doesn't give the new members much time to train, so I'm betting they'll at least be putting in one more experienced girl in there like Meimi, Chiyuribon, or an egg.

From Sayunii. New members schedule.
8/14 announcement, handing out of songs, lyrics, etc

8/15 recording

8/16~19 dance lesson

8/20 pv shoot

8/21~9/8 concert rehearsal/media recordings (performances, TV, etc)

9/9 genepro (rehearsal at the concert hall)

9/10 concert tour starts
Wow.

A lot of pressure on the new girls AND S/mileage as well, who have to help them.

Hopefully this means Tsunku isn't picking any diamonds that are too rough.

And there's going to be 5 LE versions of the new single A-E, and LE E is an amazing 500 yen.
