What games should I get for it?
a.) an SNES emulator

b.) the games you can't emulate via PCSP.
The second order of business after installing Doom was to install an N64 emulator. OOT did run but alas at only about 10-20 fps making it unplayable. I guess I'm still impressed you could run it on a handheld a all?

I'll definitely look into a SNES emulator, but then I'll have to re-phrase the question and ask about what SNES games to play. I finished Chrono Trigger and FF4 on other systems already. I guess I never went too far in FF6 tho.
Are those the only SNES games you've ever played ? If "yes", then you do not want to get me started on games for the best console ever made. I'd clog up the board with a massive post that'd take up the whole year's bandwith.

And also it's 0:30am and I should be learning (been playing Civ all day...), so I can't spend two hours on a long post now.

But check out the blue video in my signature (and be sure to read the annotations and video commentary), maybe it'll give you an impression on which games seem interesting to you. Eventhough the video is based on music and not games. Though, arguably, SNES was the console with the best and most memorable music.

If you're interested, I can do a write-up of recommended SNES games when I have more time.

Indulge yourself. I'm sure it will be a good reference for others and for the future. But no rush, I already have 3 games started now that I'm determined to finish, and new-old titles just keep coming.

I know I played a few more SNES titles, but never finished any so my memory of them kinda eroded. I remember one jRPG which in the intro showed a face of the clock, the clock hands falling off (I think), and the 13th hour fading in and squeezing in between 12 and 1. I played a good few hours of this one and enjoyed it a lot for it's gloomy bleak atmosphere, but for the life of me can't remember its title.

That might have been Terranigma, the game many consider to be the SNES' swansong.

It truly was very imaginative and a great game (it's also featured in my video).

Also be sure to play it's spiritual predecessor "Illusion of Gaia/Time".

I just got a 360 last year, so I've been buying a ton of cheap but very good games. Lately, of the games I have right now, I've been playing GTA IV primarily. I have quite a few other games, but I haven't felt like playing them. I do have the urge to play Street Fighter IV lately, as I am so out of practice with fighting games that I can't even beat the third opponent.

Also I've been super into Civ IV lately. I'd play V, but I'm trying to get funds to build a new PC so I can play anything requiring SSE2 (which is most new games). Minecraft I'd love to be playing, but I hate playing on servers with people I don't know (IE: annoying as hell 14 year olds). I'm trying to get Mass Effect 1 for the 360, but it's super hard to find, so I'll be ordering it online soon.

Yes, that was it! Thanks for the reminder. Back then I didn't know it was a part of a trilogy, but resources were much more scarce.

I just remembered how I got stuck on my first Chrono Cross playthrough on the part where you had to climb a mountain and time it to the sound of gusts of wind. I couldn't complete it because on my old machine I couldn't get ZSNES to run with sound. The joys of early emulation, lol.

In other news, I've been killing myself for the last few weeks over the choice whether or not to upgrade my 4850 with a 7850. ~240 EUR for a GPU (a specific dream model of 7850 that I want) is quite dear, but when I build my current setup I got the lower-spec 4850 almost out of a bargain bin with a mind to have it replaced soon, and that was nearly 3 years ago. Now after upping RAM to 10GB and adding an SSD the GPU remains the last bottleneck, but damn you the faint voice of responsibility.

I also didn't know back then it had a connection to Illuions of Time/Gaia, except for both being made by Enix.

They just don't make JRPGs like that anymore. Every since Square and Enix merged, the market has gone done the shitter.

Chrono Cross = Playstation game

Chrono Trigger = SNES game

Wait for the 660 to be released.

Yes, I meant Chrono Trigger of course. I always get the two titles confused.

I don't buy Nvidia cards and don't feel like researching them, but apart from being a mild ATI/AMD fanboy the 7850 is considered the best bang for the buck right now in the mid-range segment.

I guess I'm really just seeking affirmation of my impending purchase.

Didn't say you should buy the 660.

Primarily I've meant that the release of the 660 will undoubtly push AMD's prices down.

I'm probably going to buy a 560 Ti OC next. That is, if I have the monies for dem cards.

Fair enough. But from a quick research it seems 660 is delayed until Q3 2012, and by then the model I want will be either sold out in Europe or discontinued altogether. This happened to me before already and it's very frustrating.

I've used Nvidia and ATI cards. I came to the general conclusion that ATI cards put me through hell and they absolutely freakin' -hate- older games. Also I believe that the processing architecture of Nvidia cards is a hell of a lot better. My current card is ATI, too low on any sort of funds to build my new PC, so I'm making due.

Crusader Kings 2 is awesome, but insanely hard to get into. Basically, if Civ is elementary school, CK2 is getting a doctorate.

I got Pokemon Conquest. It's pretty awesome.

If you like Disgaea or Final Fantasy Tactics, and you think Pokemon is getting boring and stale but still like the franchise, I'd advise getting this game. It's completely different from any other Pokemon game, and even adds new levels of strategy to the tactical RPG genre.

It's completely removed from the normal Pokemon universe, they've even fundamentally changed how almost everything in the theme works.

We don't have a videogame spam thread, so this is going here, chumps.

Final Fantasy 7 to be re-released on PC. It will feature cloud saves (lol), achievements, modern hardware support, and a character boost system (for when you're in a hard-to-win scenario, I guess). Here's an announcement trailer. I know FF7 has a story, I'm sure of it, but does anyone remember the parts between terrorist hippies and saving the planet?

Finished Catherine. Game gets a lot easier when you turn on super-secret 'Very Easy' mode. My ending was nice, but aren't there nine different ends?

Just Cause 2 is addicting like Infamous was addicting. The story isn't long or that great, but the collectables are more than half the fun. I'm at the final story mission, but only 28% completion.

Tomba! was just added to the PSN a few weeks back for $8 or so. Kind of solid adventure platformer.

I've been playing a lot of Super Mario World lately. And last night I picked up my Japanese version of FFVI where I left it off. I had made OK progress (I'm in the part where you split into the three scenarios...I THINK I'm on my last one, not sure). But then when Ryan came to Japan I didn't want to bore him by playing a single player RPG he couldn't even understand so I stopped and then just didn't feel like figuring out where I was again until last night when he went to bed early. So woo, maybe I can make some real progress!

You got a new PC, use it !

I got a few small things.

Warhammer 40.001 - generic space marine shooter

Dead Island

Legen of Grimrock

NFS: Hot Pursuit

Sins of a Solar Empire - Trinity

Stalker CoP (which I actually bought at launch, but it was so cheap I figured I'd buy it on Steam so I don't have to have the DVD in the PC when I play it next time)

Amanita Bundle

Max Payne bundle (1 & 2, not incl. that disgrace they call Max Payne 3)

SANIC 4 - Episode II

Nearly exactly 50€ for all that. Good deal.

But overall I was really underwhelmed by this year's sale.

No achievement hunting sucked hard. Who gives a shit about those useless badges !?

No lottery was also a disappointment.

The flash sales were pretty much redundant since 90% of the games there were on daily deal anyway... same goes for that community vote thing.

Oh god, I shouldn't have bought so many games I can't run.

Let me list the ways: Really Big Sky, Legend of Grimrock, Fable III Collection, Dear Esther, Waves, Auditorium, Beat Hazard Ultra, Fallout New Vegas Ultimate, Fallout 3 GOTY, Splice, Left 4 Dead 2, Ys Origin, 1000 Amps, Scoregasm, Orcs Must Die!, Binding of Isaac: Wrath of the Lam, Tropico 4, and Borderlands GOTY. I'm looking forward to playing many of these some day. Some time in the future, I'm gonna have a great time. I'm exclusively looking forward to playing many of these fine games soon.

I spent about $90 and my account is now worth $860.24 and that's literally the cutest thing I've ever heard for no good reason. It's a both powerful and really cute value. Cute money.

You bought Fallout 3 AND New Vegas gold versions ?

I just hope you already finished one of them or you're probably not going to play anthing else from that list besides those two until the rest of the year. lol

800USD ? That's cute indeed. I've surpassed that quite some time ago. =P

You'll probably end up just like me, with a few game you've bought ~2 years ago for a few bucks and never got around to play.

Yeah, I played through both of them before, but I never did any of the DLC adventures (or a hardcore run of New Vegas like I wanted).

I figured a few of those would take a lot of time from me, so hopefully the smaller games are good enough to play every once in a while.

I have plenty other games lined up that I amassed during the last Winter sale, so I decided to be good and just patiently play those instead of spending more. This reminds me how I used to download anime fansubs back when my computer was too retarded to play even 640x480 DivX5 videos, thinking that one day I'll just sit and watch them all. Needless to say, I still didn't watch some 90% of them. But at least those were free.

This reminds me how I used to download anime fansubs back when my computer was too retarded to play even 640x480 DivX5 videos, thinking that one day I'll just sit and watch them all. Needless to say, I still didn't watch some 90% of them. But at least those were free.

Didn't you buy an i5 recently ?

Or were you just pondering ?

Or am I mixing the i5's numbers up with the AMD card numbers ?

Yeah, I played through both of them before, but I never did any of the DLC adventures (or a hardcore run of New Vegas like I wanted).

I figured a few of those would take a lot of time from me, so hopefully the smaller games are good enough to play every once in a while.

You absolutely need GUI mods for Bethesda games.

MTUI is great for NV (and I think FO3 has it too).

Unfortunately hardcore was still pretty pussycore. I'd also suggest getting a mod that makes the game more like Stalker. But maybe that just has to do with me wanting every serious game to be more like Stalker survival.

The latter, I replaced my old 4850 with a 7850 and threw a new monitor in to go with it (thus marking the end of CRT era for me). And I would have never pondered buying Intel, just what were you thinking just now.

Aw shit. A muh-fugga changed the game! One can of compressed air and my GPU hasn't locked up during a session of Really Big Sky (great) or Waves (also great). Very excite. Gonna try out something more 3D taxing like Orcs Must Die, but it's promising~

[edito] Oh man, my GPU is, like, 20C cooler now. My computer is no longer a hot pile of plastic and I'm gaming. Really gaming!

Intels are far better for over a year now. The Sandy and Ivys absolutely ra- destroy every single AMD CPU on the market. Especially for gamers.

The i5 3570k is the best high-midrange CPU right now imho.
