I watched Painted Skin, loved it. Saw Cabin in the Woods, MEH.

I also wanted to see Fast and Furious 6 for my hunnies Rock and Diesel, but every freaking showing was sold out. EVERY SINGLE ONE. Even Star Trek sold out (and that's because I think those who couldn't get into FF went to see ST instead)

My Neighbour Totoro, 1988 G-rated animation, sold out on a weekday screening, with mostly non-weeaboo audience with average age of 30+ watching in unbroken awe. Ghibli is just so magical and timeless. :cryalot:

Before Midnight is coming out in a week and a half. I can't wait...

For those who aren't familiar, Before Midnight is the third movie in a series of romantic dramas shot every 9 years. The actors age with the movies.

Last weekend, our theater (and other Regals I'm sure) showed Cleopatra, so I went with my mom and grandma. They warned me that it was long, but damn. We got there at 2 and left a little before 630. :whatthe:  It was a nice movie though. Elizabeth Taylor was gorgeous and the whole thing flowed well. You don't get that sort of luxurious production anymore (but the movie never made the money back, so...).

Wall-E is clearly my favourite.
Incredibles, Finding Nemo and Ratatouille were all fun, eventhough a bit drawn-out at times.
A bug's life and Monsters I consider neither worth watching.
I think Toy Story is complete and utter garbage.

On the other hand, I hate Shrek with a passion.
I usually keep these two opinions to myself, because I most often get a "if you hate Toy Story/Shrek, you must be a Dreamworks/Pixar fanboy" reply, which is obviously untrue.
In general, I have a rather negative opinion about Dreamworks, eventhough I haven't seen that many of their movies. They all just seem like copies of eachother.
I've only seen Shrek 1 (and parts of 2), Madagaskar and Over the Hedge. Madagaskar was very entertaining, Over the hedge was OK, Shrek being horribad.

We've had the same discussion some time ago and I remember posting the following picture, which I think still holds true.
Dreamworks mostly makes ordinary movies where the characters could easily be replaced with normal humans. Pixar on the other hand seems to be able to justify why the main character(s) is/are fish, rats, toys, monsters and so on.

Guys.  I watched "Antichrist" last night.  If you have not seen this movie, do not see it.  Do NOT see it.

Nothing makes me cringe, NOTHING...except eye stuff.  AND THIS MOVIE.  And I mean I sat through a lot of horrible shit in this movie before even I became squeamish.  IT IS JUST A HORIRBLE MOVIE DO NOT SEE IT.

Anyone who HAS seen it already (for some reason I wouldn't be surprised if Ap has...) please tell me your thoughts and opinions.

No, in fact I haven't seen any Lars von Trier movies, but I've always thought some of them sound interesting.

Yesterday I saw Pitch Perfect. It's super problematic but the songs are catchy!

I also recently saw 500 Days of Summer, which hit home. :( Have you seen <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XL2ekEeMk0Q">Manic Pixie Prostitute</a> on YouTube? They make fun of the movie at the start.

Speaking of pitch-perfect, I am excited to see MUD by Jeff Nichols, a movie currently in theaters. I hear that the performances and the pace of the storytelling are brilliant.

Pitch Perfect was a lot funnier than I thought but the end made me cringe so badly.

We watched "The Babysitters" last night.  It was pretty crazy.  It was about a bunch of high school girls who started babysitting so the dad's would drive them home and bang them and pay them and the one chick got commission to save up for college.

The ending was actually a lot crazier than I expected it to be, too.

How stupid are these moms?  Do they not wonder why it's taking their husbands forever to get home from dropping the babysitters off?

Also...the relationship between the main character and the main adult character (LOL John Leguizamo) also turned out completely different than I expected.

Not the best movie but still an interesting watch if you have nothing better to do.  It's on Netflix streaming!

Especially since Eva Green plays a (major) role.

As to be expected, Superman seems to be only mediocre:

Superman was shit.

. I hated the magic usb stick that goes in automatically halfway before needing to be manually pushed in to create artificial tension in scenes.
. I hated the lack of characterization and how certain pivotal scenes were handled poorly or the true weight abandoned for the lesser meaning (a certain death pissed me off the most. It should've been for another reason, and it would have been easy to draw the line to that, but instead it's foregone for a frustratingly stupid reason)
. I'm not a big fan of Superman in the first place, but Supes is not acting like Supes would act. Shit, even in Avengers the heroes acted more Supes than Supes did during his battle.
. Jor is a hypocritical moron from the get go. I don't like how Lois has becomes blonder and "smartwimminpowahhh!!!" with every new adaptation. Ugh, her dialogue killed me. Well, a lot of dialogue killed me, but hers grated on me the most because she was supposed to be this "smart" woman and she never really reflected any of that.
. Zod's accent really annoyed me. He also was a weak and boring villain. On the reverse side, Supes felt about as Supes and Captain America feels Captain America, which is that he lacks several things that keep me from believing the other supes would name/follow as leader.
. I liked two shots, and that was it. The score was nice, but since they tried to make every.single.fucking.moment.EPIC by the climax I was burned out and wanting it to end. "Make it stop" sort of feeling.
. The script was shit. Pure and utter shit. There was nothing I found redeemable about it. The pacing was all over the place. The editing sucked. I despise Snyder's style of directing, and I bet Nolan is behind some of the shit I hated the most, because it's the same sort of themes/ideas reflected in the Batman films.

I saw the movie today. Now, for me, Superman is my superhero. He was the one I grew up on. I saw the old movies, I even watched the 50s TV series. Smallville, Lois and Clark. I think the only one I didn't see was Superman Returns. (And I doubt I ever will to be honest.). So going in, a tiny bit bias. Just a tiny. I haven't seen any of the Batman movies so not familiar with Nolan's work..

But this is what I thought. It was too damn long. No like, seriously! My ASS WAS NUMB! I wanted to crawl out of the damn theater, but there was a guy in a wheelchair in front of me and that would have looked back, plus, movie theater, eww. Oh god the pain! And holy crap did I need to pee? I was a trooper guys! A real trooper. They shoved SO much story in at once that it just became overloaded. It was like I was on a roller coaster with the movie. It started up, went down, back up, did a loop, and when i thought it was all done, it came back around and started all over again. It was a mess. The movie was bogged down with so many storylines and then so many big name stars and Superman is played by an rather unknown British actor so I'm like, "Who is you?". I spent my time trying to figure out what other movie or tv series all the other actors were in. Some parts of the movie were just useless filler that really didn't need to be there and then you had the flashbacks. At one point there were so many that when one didn't happen, I was sad where as in the beginning it was more annoying.

Other then that,  I did enjoy the visual effects. A++ for making sure your CG people didn't look like rag dolls.

A few titles I watched recently:

<a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1690953/">Despicable Me 2</a> - Still fun but not near as charming and big-hearted as the first movie. The best thing about it was the slapstick comedy generated by the Minions which says a lot about the quality of the rest. Also being the only two unaccompanied adults in the audience felt weird. We didn't look like total creepers only thanks to Berry's magical skill of looking like my daughter. =3=

<a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0078748/">Alien</a> - This is my all-time favourite movie and I saw it countless times already, but this is notable because this was the first time I watched it in a theatre (because I missed the re-run of the anniversary version a few 10 years ago). And from a 70mm film copy no less. Even though I know it practically by heart, some scenes do have a greater impact when watched on a big screen. However, as magical as it was to see it in its original format, the <a href="http://www.ifi.ie/70mm">much hyped by the IFI 70mm copy</a> was a letdown. It looked like it was pulled out of a dog's ass, i.e. brown was the dominant and very often the only colour visible. I think maybe only 2 reels (out of the I don't know how many total, 6 perhaps) had remotely acceptable colour left, the rest was faded to hell. I don't know how long it takes for a film copy to deteriorate this much, but considering that it was not one of the 2003 anniversary restored director cuts but the original theatrical version, I would believe it was one of the original 1979 copies if someone told me that. I know it's a blasphemy, but purely image quality-wise we would have seen more if they just beamed the bluray version. It was amazing to watch it regardless, this film is a classic and if it aged then it has done so beautifully.

<a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1343092/">The Great Gatsby</a> - I remember the novel bored me and I had little expectations of the movie except for some DiCaprio goodness. I didn't flash at all on the fact that it was directed by the same person who did Moulin Rouge. The movie was good, but don't expect <a href="http://pbfcomics.com/209/">historical accuracy</a> from it. Everything that had to be sacrificed for the sake of style was sacrificed. The result is lavish, if not overdone depending on your taste. I didn't buy the prolonged party scenes at first, but then as I got used to the style they ended, so all was good. The rest was enjoyable, though not necessarily re-watchable. But not a waste of time by any means.

<a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1291580/">Behind the Candelabra</a> - Apparently a movie too gay to be picked up by theatres in the US where it was sadly downgraded to direct-to-tv status and shown on HBO. It makes me even more glad I caught it on big screen. I enjoy both Matt Damon and Michael Douglas a lot, and I honestly think they have both delivered the roles of their lives in this one. For Douglas a great career topping, for Damon a break-out of his somewhat typecast romantic lone action hero fare. And as far as the movie goes, it's a worthy attempt by Soderbergh, apparently his last for a while, and thankfully infinitely better than his previous Side Effects which started off well but quickly descended into dull unbelievability with hilariously bad ending. Anyway, all prejudices aside, you should see it for the art's sake. I quietly wished I weren't so straight while watching it because I would have enjoyed it even so much more then. Do yourself a favour and image search for "matt damon candelabra" and feast your eyes. =3=

I saw This Is The End over the weekend and it was surprisingly funny. I had only seen the trailer they released in April and wasn't interested, but Seth Rogan came on Comedy Bang Bang a few weeks ago and convinced me otherwise. I could watch just a 90-minute loop of James Franco and Danny McBribe yelling about jerking off everywhere, but there are tons of great sequences.

It wasn't until watching the trailers that I realized what a media hermit I've become. I had never heard of that Sandra Bullock/Melissa McCarthy buddy cop movie and it opens this week?! I feel like a surprisingly under-advertised-to key demo data point right now

I used to like Twilight, but had the realization that it is shit a long time ago.

So the other day I was watching tv with my grandpa and we were watching TCM like he usually does. We made it about 20 minutes into <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Scapeg ... film)">The Scapegoat</a> then he changed the channel . . . Sad because I was enjoying it.

I FINALLY saw Star Trek Into darkness and it was really great fun. I would even go as far as saying it was better than the first one, which I also really liked.
Less close-ups, less lens blending, less confusing fighting, but still a bit too much here and there.

The bad thing about knowing some astronomy stuff is that you find errors in movies involving it. haha E.g. the lighting on Juptiter and its moon made no sense and there was some funky place switching going on for the sake of dramaturgy. lol But it was easy to "suspension of disbelief".
I think I was also able to make out the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pillars_of ... n">pillars of creation</a> around Kronos.

They really kept us waiting with KAAAAAAAAHHHHNNN ! and I think this also involves dat twist, PQ ? =P
If yes, then yeah I also got it !

There was some retard sitting left to me that, during the Spock x Spock scene, asked his friend "Who's that ? What's with the names ? Why do they look so similar ?". :|
I really hate it when people haven't seen
I wished his friend told him this:

Fucking Donnys in this world, man...

Second time I saw the trailer for Gravity now, looks like a super intense movie with great shots and I'm very excited about it.

I liked it, despite its problems. And Lord, were there a lot of problems. That script needed a couple more revisions or rewrites, because goddamn.

But I still had fun, so as a fun movie, I liked it. I am liking this return to space sort of movies. Space is so cool! (And thanks Ap for leveling up my love for astronomy)</blockquote>
Please explain what makes the script so bad for you (in spoiler tags pls, because I'm not going to read it until I see it this weekend).</blockquote>
Petit, please explain.

[spoiler2]
I've forgotten most of it already! Gah!

1. It's the same as the first movie. Nothing really changed character-wise and since they're trying to make a series out of it, so it would be nice to see some character growth. Spock, of course, is the "emotionless Vulcan" only in name.
2. Pacing was all over the place for me.
3. If the guy with the sick girl had her cured before blowing up the Archives, why blow it up? She's already cured, he can't make her sick again, what's the worst that could happen (aside from Khan killing him)
4. More of the "you are completely irresponsible but we're giving you the keys to the death star because lolwecrazy" sort of thing
5. There needed to be a throwaway line about Khan being the only blood able to give permanent regen.
5a. BTW, Khan's blood revived a being that was not human at all. LOLWUT
6. Whatsherface Blondie daughter chick = totally predictable the moment she was introduced. BORING.
7. LOL COLD FUSION IS NOT THAT
8. Much like Star Wars ep2-3, we hear how much Spock and Kirk are best buddies forever, but all their interactions with each other speak otherwise.
[/spoiler2]

Though, the half in the bag episode that dealt with this movie pretty much echoed exactly what I said after watching the movie. :P

I ALSO FINALLY SAW STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS.

I hate JJ Abrams so I never saw the first one (although now I will) but my mom really wanted to go and since you guys have basically said nothing but good things about it I decided to give it a try.  I was a nervous wreck the whole time.  Also, despite him not being my type at all I wanted to bang the shit out of Chris Pine by the end (I'm going to chalk this up to being sex deprived though).

For the record I am a huge William Shatner fan which is the other half of the reason I refused to see the first one but I have come to accept Chris Pine as Captain Kirk.
