thanks, Yes, the Dead Island Games are banned here, but it can be activated here without vpn, and why would humble care about crappy german laws, its Steam job to take care of it, but they never did, instead they're blocking us from buying some games on their store, and only a few games are regionlocked

Germany is the only country which this kind of problems, you don't have the USK in AT, the only games which you can't or couldn't activate in DE, T and CH were the new Wolfenstein games, because Bethesda sucks

Unfortunately, many "Austrian versions" are really just the censored/altered German one.

The German dub of Wolfenstein TNO and TOB are actually really good and I enjoyed the German versions a lot.

But I usually import my games from the UK because I like to have a PEGI logo instead of a USK+PEGI cover
 
the censored german version sucks, no swastikas and Nazi references and only the german dub without Dwight Schultz, I wouldn't want that version even for free.

My Oculus Rift CV1 arrived yesterday. Only have a bit of chance to check it out today. First thoughts: For being more expensive and nearly a couple years later, a pretty marginal improvement on DK2 in image quality. It's a bit sharper which is nice, and aided by the new ability to somewhat adjust how far apart the left and right views are with a switch on the bottom. I'd heard of so-called "godrays" being an issue with this hardware, and it is noticeable at times. It's an effect similar to lens flares, where if there's something light surrounded by darkness, it seems like a bit of the light shoots out to the edges of the lens. Hard to tell how big and annoying an issue that will be in the long run. The bigger improvement is in form. More comfortable, lighter, built in headphones, and slightly easier to connect to PC.

Unless the display resolution is at around 4K, to make the screendoor effect unnoticable, I think VR is completely uninteresting for gaming.

Screen door effect is improved over DK2, but still noticeable for sure. That, resolution, and increasing field of view are the obvious areas of improvement for future hardware.

Screen door effect isn't only a matter of resolution, but also (and primarily) the physical construction of the display. Each pixel (or light emitting element) is discrete, surrounded by a non-light emitting border. Kinda like stacking multiple monitors, each with its own bezel, in an <a class="bbc_url" href="http://images.anandtech.com/reviews/vid ... finity.jpg" title="External link">Eyefinity setup</a>, except on a micro level. If you increase the resolution with the current technology the effect will still be there, only the screen door mesh will be more fine. But it would take a ridiculous and impractical resolution to make it truly unnoticable when the display is stuck right there an inch away from you eye.
 
Imaging sensor (think digital cameras) manufacturers faced a similar issue only in reverse where the <a class="bbc_url" href="http://www.chipworks.com/sites/default/ ... ure_2a.jpg" title="External link">electronic wiring border</a> around each light-collecting pixel meant less of the light projected by the lens was being recorded by the sensor, thus lowering the sensor's sensitivity (thus requiring longer exposure times or using higher ISO setting, each with its own drawbacks). They worked around it by first moving the wiring layer behind the light-sensitive photodiode (<a class="bbc_url" href="https://cnet3.cbsistatic.com/hub/i/2011 ... ny_BSI.jpg" title="External link">backside-illuminated sensor</a>) and then further improving the individual <a class="bbc_url" href="http://i.imgur.com/qIpE7sd.jpg" title="External link">on-chip microlenses</a> for each pixel, eventually becoming truly gapless so that effectively all the light reaching the whole surface of the lens is being collected.
 
At least that's what working a few years at an optical/electronics company has taught me.
 
My brother-in-law seems to be all over the VR idea, I remain somewhat sceptical. But when I have a chance I'll go visit him and evaluate what potential the current attempt at VR has for meeting and enjoying the waifus up close and personal.

I do feel like part of my willingness to spend so much is because I'll now always have early adopter memories. I can say "I was there!", like some person who overpaid for tickets to some notable concert or sporting event.

I definitely won't bother until the hype is way over though, for both the lowered price and my general lack of interest otherwise.

27 titles got removed from the german steam store and some can't be activated via key, I already got most of these games (except for Blood + Blood 2, got it on GOG, because the steam ver. got no new port)
Guess I have to activate Postal Redux via VPN if I get a cheap key somewhere

Neat.

I checked GOG forums and many people are having this issue. You just need to keep checking I guess.

Weird. I also thought that the point of logging in through Steam was to let GOG see your Steam games regardless of your profile status. Anyway, good that it's sorted now.

I don't really know. I've been following the game off and on this past year and don't know everything about the platforms it's being released on. Even if it is PS4 first, I won't be able to get it for a while anyways. This was more of a question for future reference.
