I'm not sure. I think if they can fly out of the right airport, they'll be fine. They might even stay there a little longer because it's safer in Seattle than anywhere in Japan.

But if it does happen, there will be many unhappy people. But I'll be slightly happy because then I wouldn't have to hear everyone's stories about going. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... wheely.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':wheely:' />

Anyway, a Japanese animator scheduled to appear at the New York International Children's Film Festival this weekend has already canceled his trip here. I'm now wondering if Berryz will actually make the trip to Seattle.

[/quote]

Did they say why? Maybe it was family related rather than just generally not being able to go to NY. Anyway, release schedules should be returning to normal (as your CDJapan email mentioned) around late April, so I don't see why Berryz would have to cancel. It'll definitely help UFA make up some lost income, they probably would do everything in their power to follow through with the Sakura-Con appearance. -Especially with Usako buying out the merch table. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... /laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Ahhh~~ I haven't been as active here as much as I should be~! Just getting these replies now.

@ShinUkyo--- Yea~~! Glad to know there will be others there. I'd love to meet up with you guys. I'll pm you my number when it gets closer, although it is inevitable that we'll be in the same place at the same time anyways. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... >/rofl.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

@freezingkiss, PQ, kitaoji, and anyone else who wants Berryz goodies--- Will do! I'll post on this thread when I get there with a picture of the table and prices so you guys can shop from home. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... tongue.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> And yup! I have Paypal~

Also I doubt they would cancel out this trip~ You have to assume they already booked their tickets and everything so that would be a metric shitload of money wasted.

The only reason I could think they would cancel would be to use those days as a time to rearrange all the concerts that are being canceled this month. I hope not. I hate HP acts (well idols in general) going to anime cons but I guess any exposure is good exposure.

Sorry to hijack your thread but why would you hate HP acts going to anime cons?

Is it because they aren't really anime related?

Anime cons can also have a bit of music too right?

It's mostly that they aren't really anime related. Although there are connections the general population (at least when I was going to cons) of anime-con goers and jpop fans is quite different. The same for v-rock fans. So lumping them together kind of gives the image (to me) to anyone who might have been interested in jpop but doesn't like the anime community that they are one and the same.

Music at cons is great, artists like Kotoko and JamProject completely fit the bill because they are anime artists. As in, their music is created for the anime, not just tied-in to it.

Berryz is well... I mean yes there is Inazuma, but I mean how many anime fans do you think actually know about some soccer\dragon ball z anime that is followed in most cases by 10 year old Japanese boys? So although they may have been tied-in to an anime for the past 2 (3?) years, that isn't completely who they are. I do like that the last two singles, although connected to the anime, have a more idol feel to them.

Berryz also did a song for a precur movie, and Patalliro Saiyuki! <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... lesson.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':lesson:' /> I'm totally up on my anime.

I've been to anime conventions where they have people walking around in sci-fi costumes. It's just an excuse for the unpopular kids to come together and be popular. The brighter and more awesome your costume the more respect you get. It's like a bunch of peacocks strutting around but with lanyards around their necks.

Personally they should just call them Asian Appreciation Conventions at this point since you have anime, movies, music, and manga all grouped together. I think an anime only convention wouldn't work as much as just a Jpop only or a manga only convention would. Just lump all Japanese stuff together and call it an anime convention but any educated person who is in the know would know it's not just anime.

I remember reading an article a few years ago that anime conventions were starting to dwindle in the amount of people attending so they decided the best course of action would be to find what else people like besides anime. Thus the bring the jpop-jrock-v-rock people idea was born and now you have music at your everyday anime convention. And I don't see anything wrong with it. It's exposing Japanese music outside Japan and giving the Japanese market more of a wider audience that they might not normally get. Of course it's not the best market but it's still a market.

(And I totally just wrote all this 2 minutes after rolling out of bed!) <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... wheely.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':wheely:' />

Show me a Japan-related event this side of Pacific / Ural Mountains that is not anime-centric to which a H!P act (or any non-anime J-pop act really) could realistically come and we'll talk. As much as I wish I didn't have to suffer the company of bad cosplayers and obnoxious weeaboos on both Japan Expos I went to, we're not in the position to be elitist about it. And frankly, putting the personal bias away, 90% of the AKB and H!P wotas we've encountered at Japan Expo were no less obnoxious than your average anime otaku. Enjoy your Japan.

What do you mean by last two? You're not referring to "Heroine," are you?

The Inazuma attachment ended with "Shining Power."

And you'll fine that while there are J-pop fans that aren't into anime (I personally haven't watched any anime for a couple years, even though it's what got me into J-pop in the first place), most anime fans are J-pop fans. And besides. Outside of a Japan festival, what else is there to do? It could be pretty costly for UFA to do a concert outside of an event in this region, like they did for Bangkok.

Also, Risako is now an actual legit voice actress, with the rest having done voices on other things.

If anything, artists coming to anime cons are slumming it. Probably for every non Asian-born fan of J-pop/rock, anime theme songs were the gateway drug that got them into "real" music.

The whole thing surrounding their autograph sessions sound pretty bullshit. I was thinking about going, but it would be solely for them and there's no way in hell I'm spending all that money to fly across the country only to have a CHANCE to see them and get autographs, especially with only two 1 hour sessions with only 150 tickets to each.

http://www.hellostoreusa.com/sakura-con ... ation.html

The language their using in their info is also pretty evasive and is giving me the impression that Berryz presence will minimal at best.

How much would you charge for Momoko? I'd be there to pick it up in person but, you know, restraining orders and all...

And I still think the whole handling of the even sounds dodgy. I hope every gets to see them, but the "limited tickets" thing really killed any interest I had in going.

And Usako, beware of the wota. I don't think they sleep and I'm sure a few of them will be there because there were a bunch at the Morning Musume AX event. They don't believe in ass crack and just go straight out for the whole time. I believe they don't even get hotel rooms, just sleep on the street or something. Weirdos.

Exactly the reason why I'm not going. I'm not dropping a minimum of 1000 bucks to fly across the country, get a room, probably have to rent a car, and then not get to see them because JAPANESE fans have already staked out all the tickets.

To answer Aine's challenge about Japanese groups performing in the west without being at an Anime-centric event, there's SXSW's Japan Nite Tour. SCANDAL was part of it in 2008, yes, they're badass, but still kind of in the idol realm.

That shirt could be so much better, if they lost about half the elements.

It's just too many styles on one design, almost like several people of drastically different talent levels worked on it. The BK eyepatch logo is amazingly cool. I hate the designs & text on the pirate hat, they're too sloppy. The actual Official Berryz logo looks great, one of the best in H!P. Use that as inspiration.

It's Sakura Con, sure, but it doesn't need so many damn flowers in a really thoughtless pattern. Also, less flowers would solve the other problem of the forced tiny flowers between the banner part and the skull's chin.

But the Sakura-con shirts are nice.

I would like to get a Yurina towel as well as one of the shirts in Large size. Lemme know what I owe you and how to proceed, PM if necessary. Its a damn pity I can't go, but we're organizing a local weekend get-together in honor of Berryz and are going to watch all their PVs in a row and some TV shows/other DVDs.

To everyone who's going, I hope you have a great time and get to see our idols up close. Please report back here and tell us everything. Pictures, too!

Look for Holly (Usako) and our friend Josh.

I'm sorry I'm not going, but, for reasons too complicated to go into, this was not a good year for long trips for me.

I will watch a BK concert in their honor this weekend.

I assume they have some kind of security keeping people at a distance?

Ehhhh not really. The translator lady who does their events was there as well as the dude who filmed Kago's NYC KDDI mobile concert/documentary. Not security though. Mostly staff I think?

Other people got up and talked to them/Followed them to the bathroom, but I kept my distance to be respectful and let them eat in peace. <3 I gave them hearts w/my hand and exchanged a few words on their way out.

Also sorry for such a shitty post before~ my iPod and three beers and proves to be a crappy medium for typing.
